Found a bug in the damage changes that were made in the Real Mod V1.0

Did a 30lap endurance race at HazyView (that figure of 8 track). As you can imagine it was a demolition derby with 90% of cars falling by the wayside and ending up in bits by the side of the track.
Wheels were off, bumpers too.
I managed to finish the race and ran the replay.
All the cars that lost wheels in the race were missing wheels at the start of the replay. So I was on 3 wheels but it was driving as though there were 4, including tyre smoke flowing around a tyre that wasn't there.
Also cars were on the side of the track before the replay got under way too.

There were broken wheels all over the track buried halfway through it.
So looks like NFSS doesn't clean up the track before the replay start as its not expecting bits to be on the track.

Modding Tools from Slightly Mad Studios
I got an e-mail from Slightly Mad Studios, the developers of Need for Speed: Shift, and they want to publish their Modding Tools. Hence without permission from EA they won't be able to release their Modding Tools and Templates.

The guys behind Slightly Mad Studios would like to ask Electronic Arts, wheather they are permitted to release the Modding Tools or not.

One can hope that EA can be convinced of the project, and I ask everyone of you to sign this petition in order to achieve getting the correct modding tools and templates for nice cars.

Well just gave Real Mod 1.0 a go and I'm not too sure whats changed that much but whatever it is, I like it. The cars are real nice to drive and I get no steering lag (never did anyway). People must not judge steering lag based on the in-game wheel either.

Now this V2.0... it involves unpacking the game. Is this going to mean my NFS Shift folder will increase loads in size and leave tonnes of files floating around ?
Also how different is V2.0 over V1.0 ?

I suggest investigating the car setup options, like you would for any other simulated car that was giving you grief.

A crash into a wall is usually about the time I'm reaching for the reset button, it's race over at that point even if the car still works. If you're having trouble avoiding the walls, there's a handy driving line option. But seriously, damage is only a factor if you're not driving cleanly. I don't mind them fudging it a bit if it progresses the game. eg. letting you muscle on rather than restart.

I gave Ian Bell the benefit of the doubt but this is reprehensible with what was claimed vs what was actually delivered.I wouldn’t play this game even if I was given a copy and a blowjob.

They make it hard to concentrate on your driving anyway.

They said it themselves a few weeks ago. If you can be bothered to do your research, you’ll find I mentioned it on here and linked to the piece in question with the quote.
The game is everything I suspected it would be sadly.

It's amazing how many people's prejudices have been confirmed with this game.

You didn't mention which version, and what controller type your review version was on, either. Most of the major niggles I had early on have been resolved through mods, setup chamges and patches, and now it's all smile time.

I'm just pleased there's a new option other than buying yet another 'Greatest Hits' game from Simbin. And to get anything this close to a sim, and it is pretty close, from Need For Speed is kinda gobsmacking.

Your timing is impeccable, sir. May the gods of racing bless you unto the fourth generation. The difference in the AI is like night and day. They're still a little goofy now and then, but well within tolerance.

Howie47:Most people get so used to their favorite Sims, that when some thing more real comes along. They think it is all wrong.

You mean you were trying to say shift is good by posting those videos? The first one makes shift look terrible and the second one is obviously someone who isn't trying to drive quickly... at all. Actually I have no idea what he was doing, it wasn't racing, and it wasn't really drifting either.

The quick development of this "Real Mod" is the only reason the game still exists on my computer.

I'm pretty happy with everything about the game, with the exception of the looney AI. Is there a mod that just fixes the AI? Not just reducing 'agression', but making them realise that there are other cars on the track, and to hold their friggen line. Judging from some of the moves they make, it looks like they've dropped a lit cigarette in their lap.

I finally got to try this today. While I will give it an A+ for graphics, where is the realism that was promised? The game is pitiful. On FULL difficulty, everything cranked up, the car tries to drift in every corner and feels like it's got a magnet in the center of the car pulling it onto the track.

And the damage is a joke. Realism? So it's realistic to crash head on into a barrier at 150mph and drive away with no negative effects is it? Yes, damage was on full. I repeatedly smashed the car to pieces and while visually the car was destroyed, the only evidence in the handling was a slight pull to the left. I crashed seven times as fast as I could and while the effect on the visuals was great, this game is an empty shell.

Absolutely pathetic. I gave Ian Bell the benefit of the doubt but this is reprehensible with what was claimed vs what was actually delivered.

I am using "frames render ahead" tweak for long time. No delays in rF, GTR2 etc. no delays in Shift either  Just in cockpit wheel view destroying everything. So I wish next mod will remove wheel in cockpit completly  Anyway this mod feels good. Some tweaks allways can be done, but maybe someone will make some usefull tweaker for modifying several aspects of physics etc.

just a question for the peeps with that steering lag

are you nvidia users?
for nvidia you can change the "Maximum frames renderd ahead"
try it to set it on 0 default = 3, is a old trick to get the wheel more responsive

for ATI users is the option to change it in the ATI tray tools it seems

If you are trying to sound intelligent, then you are failing. Badly.

Your initial post that I quoted is idiotic in the extreme, and no potential spin you try to apply to me addressing said fact will disguise it.

Crazy Bored: After trying nearly everything I can find, as well as a new “real” mod which has improved the game even more, I still have very bad lagg with my G25. If everything is going normal and the track is clear and I don’t break loose it’s pretty good, but any quick movements at all and I lose control. I don’t mean spin out or anything, but I have never caught a drift smoothly. I can’t even make a sudden swerve around a wreck without the in game wheel lagging behind my real one and making me wobble all over the place trying to recover from the initial sudden movement. If I could just fix this one thing, the game would be quite a lot of fun, with these new mods coming in. It looks awesome now with a mod to get rid of that bloom or whatever it’s called, a mod to remove the cockpit blurring, and a couple other mods removing useless things around the track. The motion blur in replays annoys me but I’m sure that can be changed easily.

Indeed. I had the same problem where there is a lag of 0.3~0.2 of a second before my input is registered in the game. Being used to SimBin games and also LFS that feels to have no lag, it does effect my driving style as I have to quickly make changes to the car even before I want it to happen, meaning I've been missing apex and stuff. It might be due to the low FPS that I am also experiancing, but it's still maddening.

Honestly i much prefer oversteer (witch you can reduce from the car setup) than the unfixable understeer in GTR 2/Evo... Fist I wanted to make the game feel/drive like GTRE, but now after a week with the FFB fix I want it the other way around. Of course no qualification, tire wear, etc. ruins the "sim" part a lot, but now I'm not so sure that the physics engine underneath isn't really what Ian Bell promised. I think that sliding in SHIFT is much more realistic and manageable than GTRs. It's just that with the NFS badge on it, it can never be a full-on sim. And about the track bumps - I think some of them are not what I call brilliant (not correct - haven't felt them for real), but they do add fun in a sim kind a way. BTW they dumbed it down so it can be more fun, but made an AI that totally ruins the fun in the career. There should be a standalone mod for the AI.

This made a substantial improvement for me. I'm stuck with just the XBOX-360 game pad, and my performance on the fictional city tracks was simply horrendous!

Now, I tried three different tiers of cars on both London & Tokyo with dramatic improvements - even saw the change in the AI behavior (had a guy ram me from behind twice in a three-lap 'quick race').

Nice job!
