Need for Speed Shift – PSXExtreme Hands On

More and more gaming magazines are getting to test EA’s upcoming Need for Speed Shift title first hand and one of the last one to do so was the psxextreme.com magazine.

Their hands on article includes some bits of interesting info. It confirms that the title makes full use of the Logitech G25, including the clutch. Even more interesting is the fact that the staff got to test Shift with the brand new Logitech G27 wheel which is apparently already available to some media outlets.

Furthermore, the article confirms that players start out with un-tuned stock cars and that Shift will even support rather exotic hardware such as the D-Box Motion Chair. Click here to read the full article.

[...] you can customize the physics to your liking, ranging from assisted, to arcade like, to a blend of arcade and simulation, all the way up to the brute force of the full game engine performing its proper simulation capabilities.

I think theres a cool thing, and thats the fact of having the possibility of doing all the career without having to change the cars look. :ooo:

In E3 video, the guy was talking about how interior would change as you strip all the unnecessary stuff off the car. And that they were mostly focusing on making the visual part of the experience as authentic as possible.

    the demo would be nice!

For me the most interesting info in this article, along with the hardware support, is the online matchmaking system. Here is an excerpt from the preview:

“Now, one of the best features we heard about the game was its online matchmaking system. During offline races the game will track and measure your style of racing using two characteristic traits: aggression and precision. Based on your driving style, the game will matchmake and drop you into a group of racers most closely related to your driving.”

This way “wreckers” will race with “wreckers”, and “clean” drivers will race with “clean” drivers.
SMS could solve the biggest problem with the other simulations (excl. iRacing) – “wreckers”.
A brilliant idea, I think.

but will the game have a server lobby ala gtr2?

I’m torn between hoping the G27 will have no major improvements what-so-ever and hoping it will be the best affordable wheel ever. What a contradiction! :weird:

Somebody leak some info and put me out of my misery.
