Need for Speed Shift – Previews + Requirements

Posted on June 27th, 2009 in

Electronic Arts has released two new preview shots of Need for Speed Shift, showing us a right-hand driven car’s cockpit and a shot of what looks to be the Nürburgring Nordschleife – Even though black & orange curbs don’t scream Nordschleife right away.

Furthermore, the system requirements of EA’s upcoming title have surfaced. Given all the eye candy, a rather powerful PC is required to enjoy Shift.

Minimum Requirements:
# Pentium 4 3.2 GHz (3.4 GHz for Vista)
# 1GB RAM (2GB for Vista)
# Graphics card with 256MB of RAM support Pixel Shader 3 (PCI-Ex)
# Sound Card compatible with DirectX 9.0c
# 10GB free hard disk space
# Windows XP SP3 or Vista SP1
# 8x DVD Drive

Recommended Requirements:
# Intel Core 2 Duo 2.5 GHz or AMD 64 X2 2 GHz
# 2GB RAM (3GB for Vista)
# Graphics card with 512MB of RAM support Pixel Shader 3 (PCI-Ex)
# Sound Card compatible with DirectX 9.0c
# 10GB free hard disk space
# Windows XP SP3 or Vista SP1
# 8x DVD Drive

Developed by Slightly Mad Studios (former Blimey! Games) and distributed by EA, Need for Speed Shift is expected to be released in September 2009 for the PC and all major consoles. A demo of Shift has been announced to be available this summer.

I guess technically, though, that would be a *center* drive car, as it’s a McLaren F1.

*Massive* system requirements, yowza! Lucky I’ve got my PS3, but I hope they release a demo, ’cause I certainly won’t be buying this one “blind”.

same here i got ps3 as well.. i bought prostreet for pc when it came out and it was whatever *only played it seriously for a week til it got borring *

    10gb harddrive space,..

Ill consider this if they consider to stop making yearly need for speed games, it kinda ruins the games when a new one comes out that replaces the old one.

Still would like to know if PS3’s version physics are same as pc version?

  4. Skillcoil

    Same here.. buying PS3 version .. cuz G25 :)

I can only imagine the physics in the two are the same. However, if they’re not online compatible you might not get to race with a lot of the sim-community, and may miss out on modding/tweaking possibilities.

Those things aside though, if I had a PS3 I’d definitely consider buying that version instead to save all of the typical PC headaches.

The requirements seem pretty much in line with current PC titles.

That’s some kind of fictional Nordschleife. There isn’t such a peice of track (regardless the curbs), although the castle is the one of Nurburg. May not be such a bad thing.
Their totally fictional version of Monaco in NFS-Porsche made me eventually buy my first proper sim

Give us the ability to mod the PC version and Shift will be a favorite for years to come. Many will praise your awesomeness!

i doubt this is a nordschleife pic, the castle is nowhere near the track as shown in the screenshot – a previous shift screenshot showed the nordschleife with correct red/white curbs, why should they change…

  9. Uff

Good requirements: hopefully even people with a one or 2 years old pc will be able to run the game at its best.

Thats pretty standard requirements for new games.

What car is that? Its a british or japanese car..i can see the F1 so it might be the mclaren but doesnt he have centered wheel?

Requiments are in the average, and the fact that minimum requirements dont ask more than a P4 are good news :)

I hope I’m not the only one who sees this whol EA “sim” style as skeptical?

  13. f0xx

Im not, because now its not Blackbox doing it. Yes its still from one of the most dissapoint companies of videogames BUT it’s being developed by Slightly Mad Studios (my hopes are in them not in EA).

That pic is a Mclaren F1, look it has 2 rear view mirrors inside. The angle of the screenshot messes it up, the steering wheel is in the center :)

    cheers

It doesn’t seem to require too much performance, nice.

my ATI 4890 will eat this game, om nom nom nom!

Oh dear,I had intended to get it on PS3 first (as all my work mates have PS3’s and we play pretty much most evenings for an hour or two), and then on PC for the possabilities of modding and more sim style multiplayers, but my tired old PC wont run it,all the other specs are more than enough RAM,Grphics card and sound ect,but only P4 2.8 :sad2:
Was intending to have a new Phenom 955 quad system by sept, but the current money situation pretty much rules it out :sad2:
DOH ! and double Doh!!!!!!! :haha:

Hope this game works on XP 64bit. You’d be surprised how many don’t. Does any one know if the game will support TrackIR? A necessity for dual monitor setups.

Strange requirements, but I will be able to play it on maximum settings.

Well I appreciate EA’s (SMS) sense of reality regarding the system requirements:

Did you know the official sys.req. of Microsoft FlightSim 10 (FSX)?

    # PC with 1 GHz or higher processor
    # 256 MB of system RAM for Windows XP SP2 / 512 MB Vista
    # 32 MB DirectX 9 compatible video card required

Pure nonsense for anybody who knows FSX…

    - Lookin forward to the release of Shift! – hope there will be a demo.

we are just in summer !

Can’t wait for the demo too. As of now my plans for this year involve buying 3 games (NFS: Shift, RACE On and DIRT 2) and possibly resurrecting my junkheap amateur rally car. Demos will decide weather I buy two of these games (Shift and DIRT), which will be crucial for my car plans: I found a 1400cc engine with two carbs for my Super 5 that costs as much as a new game! :sd:

It isn’t Nordschleife, indeed. Confirmed by a SMS PR guy in the GTPlanet forum.
