Need for Speed Shift – More Previews

Three brand new Need for Speed Shift preview screenshots are giving us another look at the recently unveiled Ford GT & Nissan GT-R.

The two cars can be seen racing on road courses, accompanied by a Lotus Elise. Sadly, no clear clues are given on which tracks these cars are racing but maybe some of you recognise a known track in any of these pics.

Developed by Slightly Mad Studios (former Blimey! Games) and distributed by EA, Need for Speed Shift is expected to be released in September 2009 for the PC and all major consoles. A demo of Shift has been announced to be available this summer.

they look like Spa. Does anyone agree

  • JimmyB

Yeah. That’s surely the Kemmel straight in the second pic, Eau Rouge in the third.

With the amount of media being released lately, you’d think Shift was being released next week!

I´m not sure about that being Spa. It sort of looks like the Kemmel straight but what is that curved bridge-thingy in the background?

There’s no such thing at Spa…..

    semi fictional Spa?

Remember some tracks if not all of the real circuits in Pro Street didn’t look exactly perfect and similar to real life

The third screenshot must surely be Eau Rouge, and given the similar lighting/cars and the resemblence to the Kemmel straight I just put two and two together. I could be wrong though.

I read an article an article a while back which said something about SMS taking a few creative liberties with trackside objects/backgrounds to make things more…”lively”, whatever that meant. I’m guessing it’s just a way to make the game feel more like a Need for Speed title, by busying up the backdrops to make things feel more exciting. So maybe that’s what we’re looking at, who knows.

Is it just me then or are the tyres of that GT40 slightly deformed at the bottom deliberately to account for the load on the car after the Eau Rouge compression ?
Maybe its just the angle of the pic.

Could be, hard to tell. Sometimes when the tires sink into the pavement a little bit it looks like they’re deforming. When I first played GTL and didn’t know better, I swore I saw the tires deforming. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if they were deformable though. That’s a nice little graphical touch and I’m surprised that LFS (and Forza) are the only ones who have used it. If you’re not looking for it, it’s pretty unnoticeable though so it might not be worth the extra math.

looks more like sinking than deformation. however, graphics aside, the tire physic model might take deformation into account, knowing it’s been coded by Eero…
