the physics good or not? LOL
Any way. I think alot of people have been testing the physcis. Since a free demo will soon be out. All specualation
is so much HOT AIR. The game will speak for itself. One way or the other.

This is looking like the best bet for a new sim. Multi core game engine, possibly most realistic physics ever, exciting new AI and game play. No it is not the a platform for the purest leagues. They'll have to settle for rFactor and it's lousy tire physics and poor force-feed back. Oh, still no rain there either. GTR evo. Limited to 24 cars, no nite racing. You have to go back to GTR2. (no wipers, old game engine etc.) It's compromises across the board. Guess we'll just have to drive more then one game?
I think Shift maybe one of those games.

Sensekhmet: Call me a wimp, but the fact that drifting will use the same physics model as grip driving worries me. I mean - this is how it SHOULD be, this is the ONLY WAY to do it, but… I just can’t drift in sims. LFS, or rfactor mods… I just can’t do it. Go ahead and laugh but this is the sad truth. I’m worried I might no be able to ‘beat’ this game 100%

Well i prefer that to see a major difference in gameplay like the previous NFS crap. Ian said, to be able to play it properly some tunning changes, had to be made so no worries. The game will be playable for noobs, and it will be a challenge for leets (we'll see about this one).

Now...some guys here are not reading things properly ^^

It might not have pit stops or tyre wear, but it has other cool stuff like tyre deformation, and great physics!! Ian says "SHIFT is built on the most advanced physics engine we've made, and is by far the MOST ADVANCED and REALISTIC PHYSICS engine of any of the MAINSTREAM RACING GAMES." and damn hes from SMS not from Blackbox he knows what hes talking about ^^....this game could never be a full sim. LIke the ones we're used to play.

Its a perfect mixture between what NFS series are and what driving simulation is :) Its supposed to be a fun game dont forget that :)

cheers.

Guys, seriously .. pitstops has nothing to do with sim .. Top Gear / Ridge Racer on SNES has pitstops .. I still remember that .. or and a fuel.

also remember.. this is a SMS NFS version .. and still its really a great NFS game .. so you guys say we wont call it a sim if there are no pitstops..? stop wars please ____ end story

That would be in AutoSimSport- http://www.autosimsport.net/index2/index.php
You can download the pdf and I'm pretty sure it's in the current issue.

I don't believe even from the onset, Ian Bell ever said that this game would be a simulator (he even went as far as denying that SHIFT will be anything but Forza or GT). If anything he promised that it will give the best racing experience from a first person perspective (cockpit). It seems to me that a lot of people misunderstood best racing experience as being realistic sim which was never the intention. The fact that it is different from any other NFS game is pretty apparent if you're familiar with the past NFS. Apart from the promised physics, I've never read anywhere (since SHIFT was announced) that it would be a sim.

DW:

The omission of tyre wear is surprising but hardly defines what is a sim and what isn’t. Two of the greatest sims ever - GPL and RBR didn’t feature tyre wear or pitstops.

OK maybe i did over react lets wait for demo and see what happens it might be fun we will see. You are right we do have iracing maybe trying something more arcadish could be fun.

F355 Challenge is considered a sim yet it did not include damage, tire wear, or changing weight. It also hardly had any options.

IMO tyre wear/temperature and changing weight (fuel/pitstops) should be considered as part of the physics.
Since nobody has driven the game yet the only thing we can conclude is that the physics aren't as elaborate as many seemed to think.

If the game had more than 16 players consoles couldnt handle the game, and PC gamers would have to have uberleet machines. No tyre wear sucks but thats not a major reason to hate this game. If the physics match what they're saying (almost despising the other sim physics) it will be a cool and fun game, and thats what NFS series fight for.

cheers.

xiix: I'd wait to start praising the physics until, you know, we've actually gotten to test it.

If the promises of ubersim were made, and now we find out no tyre wear, no pitstops etc... What other things haven't made the cut?

Condemning people for saying it's going to be terrible is premature. The signs are creeping in that the PC version will be a straight console port (16 cars only?), and that the sim aspect has been greatly exaggerated.

To start saying things like "physics is FINALLY being done our way" (I assume out=our) either you're an EA shill or completely naive.

NOBODY has tested the supposed sim physics yet. You're basing your entire opinion on something the person trying to sell you the game has said. At least the people saying it's going to be garbage are basing their opinion on prior experience.

When EA assimilates a studio they do what they're told. They don't tell EA what they're going to do. (I know, a friend works for a dev who was assimilated into the collective.) EA will not pay a developer to create TWO distinct physics models. Unlike ISI, Simbin etc... EA do not give a damn about you or me, especially in todays financial climate. I am sure sim mode will be an afterthought at best.

How about we all just wait and see. It's not long until one side of the argument can point and laugh at the other.

Until then it's all just idle speculation based on the words coming out of the mouth of a salesman.

It sounds like Shift will offer 90% of what any sim racer wishes, in addition to graphics and presentation that is far ahead of anything currently on the PC.

The ONE SINGLE THING we bitch about most as PC simmers: physics, is FINALLY being done out way, and yet so many of you retards find something to bitch about.

Do you even realize how big of a deal it is that an NFS game has simulation physics? This is a step in OUR direction, for ONCE. FINALLY, for a change, WE get OUR way with a mainstream game. So it doesn't have all the other things that make our PC sims so great, big deal. IT'S a START!

Honestly, guys, for once in your lives, just once, look at this for what it is, instead of what it isn't.

Edit: Wierd, my PC just crashed as I was posting this...

yakshemash: Jesus Christ people! Wake up and stop moaning! This is NFS!! You have 2 tons of so called HC sims to choose from. Shift is SMS’s version of NFS and you should be glad for it. Do you know anything else than just yelling your stupid “arguments” here?I’m playing HC simulators for almost 10 years, but I almost feel ashamed to be one of this “community”

Thanks for the reply, saved me some time ;)
