That quote needs printing out and framing. It’s so true.

</blockquote>

Yeah I imagine SMS and EA are in floods of tears, which would make counting the huge pile of cash they've just made from NFS Shift difficult. :roll:

Am I the only one who pictured these comedians as Chris Crocker putting on lots of fake, wails, tears and eyeliner as they both cry together "Leave sim developers alone..." and ironically chastise others for shouting and crying on the internet to get attention? :D

</blockquote>

I don't think the simracing community has a monopoly on that. Take a look at the comments on Joystiq sometime.

I watched a couple of gameplay videos, and it's looks pretty good fun for what it is. If I was one of the iDrones, I'd definitely pick it up.

Have any of the people who have posted complaints actually played it? I downloaded it yesterday, and along with Firemint's Real Racing, it is the best racing game for the iPhone (and I've tried almost all of them). Considering the relatively low power of the iPhone and the cheapness of the game, it is an impressively full title with nicely balanced handling and very impressive production values for the mobile game. It made my daily two hour tube commute a pleasure today.

It's getting increasingly embarrassing to read the responses of some of the posters on here. It's like the comments on Youtube comments - people seem to think that being harsh and aggresive about something will get them noticed on the internet. Obviously everybody is entitled to their opinion, but maybe not everybody needs to share it all of the time. If I was a racing game developer, I'd take one look at the reactions of some of the so-called hardcore racing fans that post on here and wonder why I should bother trying to add to a community that will no doubt rip me apart if I don't come close to meeting their elitist standards.

Not everything has to be an ultra realistic, gMotor2 powered all out sim, fun though I find those. Some things can just be a bit of entertaining fluff that you can pick up for 10 minutes and put down again as easily. I've really enjoyed Shift on my PS3, and I'm really impressed that I've got a comparable hand held version for less than the price of a trip to the cinema, so thanks for posting this Montoya or I might not have found it

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit. Besides which you missed the point which isn't surprising.
Let me know if you need an explanation of what the point was.

Everything is terrific and fantastic, no one has ever benefited from critical thought. The sim community is thriving and growing like never before. And NFS Shift's physics are more accurate and rewarding than Netkar Pro's.

Reading the comments here paints a bleak picture of the sim-racing community. Thankfully they aren't all that bad.
If you aren't interested in the game, then there is no point opening up the article to comment.

<strong><a href="#comment-32961" rel="nofollow">Montoya</a></strong>: Wow, quite a few pissed off commments here, didn’t expect that
</blockquote>

Yeah its quite lame really isn't it ? Seems that anything new that comes along, be it iRacing, Real Time Racing, SRT and even this, is met by someone who can put a negative and bitter twist on it.

I dunno what this is down to, whether its being spoilt, not their thing (so they must complain), a need for attention or that it just ain't "sim" enough.
I really don't know where it comes from.

Usually if I don't like something I don't comment. If I do like it and I think it's not up to par or can be improved, I`ll say so, hopefully in a constructive way.
But to just come on and slag something off is quite pointless imo.

Anyway, the articles you post on YOUR blog don't even HAVE to be about 'sim' racing. The site itself is called VirtualR not SimR.
The iphone game is 100% virtual so it counts as much as rFactor or iRacing.
Its not up to the visitors to decide that only hardcore sim news may apply.

Anyway the term 'simulation', which we have covered before, is not restricted to hardcore physics and graphics. In literal terms Dirt2 and even FlatOut are simulations.

Seems its usually the same names doing the complaining too. Seems if something doesn't fit neatly into their little sim world then it needs a verbal bashing.

You post whatever you want here Montoya, don't let these scrooges ever change that.
If its virtual and its racing, it counts !

Looks decent for an iphone game, it requires braking and basic throttle control too by the looks of that video which is more than I can say for a lot of other handheld racing games.....

But yeah, not sure you really want to start covering iphone racing games Rob :tongue:

Wow, quite a few pissed off commments here, didn't expect that :wink:

I just thought this is a fun story to report on, this was in no way meant to suggest that this has anything to do with real sim racing. I know a lot of readers enjoy Shift so this may be worthwile news for some... I guess not for all :wink:

Maybe I´m just the only iPhone geek around here, that might be it :sd:

Or probably you should just skip the news you're not interested in and open your mind a bit, thinking that this kind of games can co-exist with serious sim and can also make casual racer interested in sim-racing. :wink:
