Need for Speed Shift – Ferrari DLC Pack Previews & Info

A few days ago, I posted a first story on the Ferrari download pack coming to Need for Speed Shift. Now, EA has officially announced the pack, giving us first previews of the prancing horses in Shift to enjoy.

The pack will bring ten Ferrari sports cars to Shift, including the Ferrari FXX, the California,  the 599 GTB Fiorano, the F50 GT and the F430 both as GTC and Spyder version. Furthermore, the pack will add the Ferrari World Tour to the game’s career mode.

Unfortunately, all of this will be limited to the Xbox 360 version of Shift as the DLC won’t be available for the PC and Playstation 3 versions. The Ferrari Racing Series pack will be available starting February 18th and will sell fo $9.99.

F*** 🙁 , now I will have to sell my PC version and get the Xbox 360 version.

  • Werewolf88

    Why Xbox only?

  • Benisreallycool

    Oh man..

and thus begins the saga of PC Gamers and their hatred for Blimey games.

I wonder if they remember who got them there in the first place?

oop’s… not Blimey, Slightly Mad Studios

    look this!!!

Take that with a grain of salt, the official NFS site says it’s Xbox 360 only and will be released on February 18th.

One of the sites is wrong and it’s most likely not the official one..

  • obi136

Don’t believe what Shack News says. They just say good news. When the real news comes out, then you’ll feel bad

  • mike84

a real shame it wont be coming to pc :weird:

and considering xbox360 owners have to pay there is very little chance it will come to PC…ps3 maybe but sucks for PC owners

  • felipe

if you add the game price plus all payed DLC this game is becoming more expensive than iRacing just like Forza 3! For the purist GT5 all day! :sd:

  • DeadStar

felipe: if you add the game price plus all payed DLC this game is becoming more expensive than iRacing just like Forza 3! For the purist GT5 all day!

    Lols.

  • http://racingrenders.com F1Racer

yay, PC owners get stuffed once again. If Blimey! had any control over this they should hang their heads in shame.

Also how bad is ‘borough’ for a spelling error ?? Worst one yet I think. Try ‘borrow’.

  • BenUK

Well, Blimey (SM) are console devs now, just like SimBin.

PC owners will get the scraps, if they are lucky.

i think this is the first paid DLC for shift.

  • sosman

I’m not fussed about no PC version cause the shift I’ve already played sucked the big fat one already while using my G25.
I’ve done a couple of years of online racing in leagues(locally)with Rfactor mainly so I’m happy that there not wasting there time with the PC side of it!

  • sosman

    Roll on Rfactor2

  • yakshemash

Oh yes! News about Shift and here comes bunch of moaning ignorants. You never dissapoint guys 🙂

  • Uff

This really is a bad move. I don’t know if someone paid for this exclusive, but it definitely is unfair (well, who cares about this when money are involved 🙄 ).

  • stabiz

    DLC is the new plague.

  • spliff

stabiz: DLC is the new plague.

the paid one for sure. the second plague are consoles.

  • RoNo

no PC ? not very disapointed, cos shift is only good lookin but overall sucks.

  • aleksss

Probably microsoft just bought the rights for it. Like they did with gta4 episodes of liberty city.

You really think GT5 will have no DLC?

  • http://www.virtualr.net Montoya

I don’t see how DLCs are something bad really. Forza’s DLC packs are usually resonably-priced and keep the game fresh with new content – What’s wrong with that?

Put the hard feelings about the Xbox-exclusivity aside and you´ll realise that this pack is great value and for many players a good reason to pick up Shift again.

Keep in mind that while PC titles are usually kept fresh with modding content, console gamers don’t have this kind of luxury. That’s why people appreciate DLCs and if the price is reasonable, it’s a win-win situation for everyone.

  • Tensor

If it is really fresh content and the price is reasonable, i am totally with you. but there were also games where finished content was removed, the game was released, and the content was delivered as DLC afterwards to make more money with it. And that kind of shitty DLC politics has to stop.
There are romours that SMS already finished some of the Ferraris because they worked on a Ferrari racing game before. So some of the upcoming Ferraris were not put into the game to make money with it. And that SUCKS.
It’s the same shit with bugfixes. Nowadays many people cheer if their are many patches for their games to make them run. Just because they are too dumb to understand that this means that an unfinished game was relased and has to be patched.
Wake up. Especially EA is the worst cash cow possible. And $10 for 10 cars. That is NOT reasonable.

  • Tigerteeth

Whilst I understand your post Montoya, I do feel PC and PS3 owners of Shift (I’m not one of them) should have has much entitlement to DLC material as Xbox 360 players – we all pay at the till for these titles regardless of platform, so why are one group of people favoured over another?

Not only would EA receive more income from PC and PS3 owners of Shift for the DLC, it probably would have increased sales of the original title as well. It seems an utterly bizarre decision to make the additional content an Xbox 360 exclusive at the cost of lost sales on other platforms.

  • FooAtari

Kind of with Tensor on this.

In games like GT, Forza and now Shift there are already a crap load of cars, so what does 10 more cars really add to it? I don’t really think it keeps the game fresh. Especially when the accuracy of the physics of those cars is probably way off the mark. Sure the general physics engine may be good but I doubt each individual car is particularly accurate. There will be several other cars in the game that have very similar handling characteristics.

The games industry amazes with me with how quickly people are prepared to bend over and be ass raped. As Tensor says, constant patching is not always a sign of “good support” but often a broken or unfinished game.

In some sims, the work that goes into modeling each car makes it worth the cost of buying, in other sims (using the term loosely for Shift) it’s often questionable weather the cost is worth it. Of course I guess that’s up to the individual. But as I said above, I have never seen a group of people so keen to bend over as gamers are. So the developers and publishers get away with it.

Yes, exactly what he said ^^ !!

Theres a topic at NFS forums:

    EA Torque:

‘Unless you’ve been living under a rock and not in the fast lane, then you’ve probably heard by now that Ferrari is returning to Need for Speed as downloadable content available only for Xbox 360. Feel free to voice all of you’re questions, comments, concerns and complaints about the absence of the new DLC in this thread.
…. NFSKirk is an employee and thus an official source. And just to back him up: Yes. There is more coming to your way this March.’

March refers to new DLC for PS3 and xbox360.

So basically yes PC gamers wont play with Ferraris 🙁

  • Tensor

Probably Microsoft bought the exclusive rights for the Ferrari DLC to push the Xbox360. Quite funny. Just one term: “Games for Windows”. One more time Microsoft proofs they really mean that, makes us happy and pushes the PC as a gaming machine once more 😆

If Xbox360 users aren’t too dumb at all, they hopefully understand that there is a high chance that they have to pay such a high price, because SMS and EA has to make their profit just with the 360 Shift players. So alle 3 platforms are the losers of this step.

    Made my day :sd:

Ferrari sells his name!Ferrari has a policy of exclusivity
Ferrari are available ONLY on GT5 for PS3!
At NFS Shift for Xbox 360
No PC version due to the fact, there is more piracy than real customers, and perhaps besause the license has already given at an another games editor.

  • hoboracer

Cars packs are unimportant and should be free. I wouldn’t have a problem paying for a track pack. I’d be happy with 1 or 2 cars and 100 tracks. What is GT5 selling, 1000 cars? That’s the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of. Sell me tracks not cars.

  • BenUK

PC gamers get screwed in the ass once more.

Maybe you never heard of Ferrari Challenge, a very hard core sim-racer on PS3.

  • scca1981

While it definitely sucks us pc gamers won’t get the DLC I in a way can see why. As soon as it would be released it would be hacked and posted for free download probably within an hour of its release. You also have to look at the sales numbers as probably as many if not more people pirated the game instead of buying it. So while it sucks its not without reason.

  • http://racingrenders.com F1Racer

It seems you are undeniably right about this. Shift was one of the most pirated games of 2009 and how many PC owners actually bought it compared to the millions that pirated it ? I`d say a tiny fraction.
So this is why they don’t bother with PC users. Besides everyone hats Shift apparently as its not ‘sim enough so extra DLC not coming the PC way shouldn’t matter, right ?

  • Wil

    Fuck you, EA!

There must be a solution to piracy without the need for things like unpopular DRM. Sure, I am referring to a bigger problem than just the EA / Blimey software, its a problem for all PC publishers (and legitimate games alike).

Steam, whilst it uses its own DRM, is a far more popular form of content protection, therefore I don’t understand why more publishers don’t use it.

shift sold over twice as many copies on ps3 thats why it doesnt make sense to me microsoft must be throwing around some big wads of cash 😆 .

  • mattabater

i love lapping nords in different standard cars i take the lambo Lp to murcielago lotus ford escort aston etc man you feel the difference, and it has to be be verily accurate coz i know what ford escorts feel like and that shit is just scarily real. who ever says “Especially when the accuracy of the physics of those cars is probably way off the mark” is way off the mark i say.

im just using the sharptyres 1.02 and no changes to my controller.ini’s ffb settings. just turning up or down ffb strength in logitech profiler.

Over at the NFS forums this was just posted by a moderator:

Listen everyone, we’re all big fans of Ferrari so we’re disappointed that it’s not going to be available on PS3 or PC too…

We would love to provide the Ferrari Racing Series across all platforms. However it is only available on Xbox 360 as a result of existing Ferrari licensing agreements beyond the control of Need for Speed. Don’t worry though because we’ve got something really cool coming in March.

Finally, we really do appreciate the feedback you guys give us regardless of whether it’s positive or negative. However, when you do choose to give us your feedback it’s always better received when you keep it G rated.

If you guys want to get in touch with us personally you can send an email to Drew ([email protected]), Mike ([email protected]) or Kirk ([email protected]). Like we said before, we appreciate your feedback regardless of whether it’s positive or negative.

Could it be the licensing issues for the PC are Slightly Mad Studios Ferrari Project sim? I can’t think of another licensing project with Ferrari for PC that would mess up the use of these cars on the pc version, can you?

  • Skillcoil

Umm does that mean they are going to reveal (Ferrari Project) ? I hope I’m wrong

Regardless of whether or not this is tied up in licensing issues, one perusal of the replies here sadly once again demonstrates exactly why PC users probably aren’t worth the effort.

The fact I’ve seen so many “within the community” openly say they illegally downloaded Shift only goes further to add to that.

Why don’t people try growing up a little, and stop throwing toys out of the pram. Whilst I’m sure writing “Fuck you EA” makes some of you feel so much better, it doesn’t really do much constructive to change the situation nor provide anything worth reading for the rest of us.

Different people have different opinions about Shift, fine. But the general level at which most of the conversation about it (and many other titles/announcements in recent times) seems to be conducted on is quite frankly embarrassing for a community that seems so quick to dismiss the “console kids” and their games and somehow hold themselves in such high regard.

  • traind

I agree spamsac. We need to support each sim based or sim leaning title to the extent we can if we expect bigger and better things in the future–particularly in the pc realm. Developers can’t build a better mousetrap without financing and they won’t for the pc market if we don’t support them.

  • dadada1

I too agree with spamsac. one of the few comments here thats intelligent.

I pretty much agree with what you say. It doesn’t matter what weak justifcations anyone has for downloading the game or weather you then went and bought it afterwards, EA just look at the torrent sites and see thousands of leachers and seeders and just think “bollocks, why bother?”

However, I had a small jibe at the sim credentials of shift above, however that has nothing to do it with it also being console title. I have nothing against consoles, I just don’t think Shift is that great a sim when compared to the likes of rFactor and iRacing.

Which of your asses did you pull that from?

Shift sold 1.8 million on PS3 and 1.3 million on 360.

That would be about 36% more. Nowhere near “over twice as many”.

You’re probably right. But on the other hand, I bought Shift for PC and the way it’s going now with the DLC, I think I won’t buy the next version. I should feel good about buying it, but if EA doesn’t care about their PC buyers, maybe next time I’ll do with a pirated version.

^^^^^^^ Well said! I am very disappointed myself. While I have multiple 360s and a PS3, I prefer to game on the PC since I love NVidia 3D Vision and TrackIR head tracking while driving.

But, I also understand if this is a licensing thing and their response, w/ personal email addresses, seems to be the most professional way to handle it. If it was beyond your control and you worked there, wouldn’t you want and appreciate the freedom to respond in such a way.

Let’s remember appearances for our small but vocal community do not go unnoticed. PC users need to represent, right? Otherwise it’s too easy for them to just produce for the PS3 and 360 alone in the future.

Frankly, when active stereo 3D comes to the PS3 (hopefully w/ head-tracking as well, and in time for GT5!), I may spend less and less time w/ the PC. That would be depending on the final quality of that sim and other content. If I could play Forza III in 3D w/ head-tracking, I’d be cool w/ that (plus not have to deal with these GPU driver update, soundcard, and other PC “maintenance” issues and spend more time pulling laps!)

To answer your question CrowTRobot; neither the Ferrari Racing Series nor the March content will be available on PC. As for future content…I can’t say because I don’t know.

    Such a sad thread. :sad2:

Sad that the DLC will only be available for XB360 (or so it would seem for the moment at least).

Sad that many PC gamers are so blinkered they don’t realise that PS3 gamers are also not getting the DLC – its not an attack on PC gamers.

Sad that many PC gamers don’t realise the real state of PC gaming, thinking its still like it was 10 years ago.
