I don’t know well SHIFT is going to be with gamepad but with Forza2, you’re more likely to be faster with a gamepad than you would with a wheel. GT5P on the other hand is always faster with a wheel (in Pro mode) than you are with gamepad.

Nope and this doesn’t have a thing to do with physics. In fact when Turn 10 invited the top Forza players to Le Mans all used a wheel except for one. The problem is that almost every wheel available for the 360 just sucks. There’s one really good fanatec wheel available that is superior to the g25 but it’s too expensive for most players. Thus most players use a controller and have learned to “deal with it.”

Also the xbox 360 controller is far superior for driving games than the dual shock is for ps3. It’s no G25 but I can at least be competitive with it.

Not everyone has the money for a wheel and not everybody has something to clamp their wheel onto or the space for a cockpit. Yes theres things you can buy so you can sit on your couch with a wheel but their almost the same price of a good wheel. I would have rathered he use a wheel also but a lot of people will be playing the game on a console with a controller.

Drifting only sucks when it is in American games or games with “drift mode” where you are forced to drift for points, and they typically tweak the physics so anyone can easily drift by smashing on the gas and turning left or right.

I used to love drifting, esp the japanese sport, but it has sadly become soo hyped and used as a marketing tool for the masses of fanboys to buy into these games, it just ruins it for me. When grid came out, my local car club and friends where raving about how awesome drifting was in that game.

The drifting guy… does he really talk in carefully structured bollocks to normal people? I don’t think so, it’s for the drifting kids who will buy this game.

What if they just needed a shot of him playing the game amongst an interview, “here, take this controller and drift in the game for the camera”

What if he used a G25? Then we get people wondering if they have to buy the wheel just to enjoy the game, it’s puts it’s plug-and-play-ability to question, etc. EA will never endorse anything else apart from what they are selling or partnered with, sure they can put that stuff in the readme, they’ve just got to be extremely careful what goes to the mainstream.

I can drive with a gamepad in GT5P, but it’s a less involving experience than using a wheel, and in my case, slower.

so I think they definately will make some good ffb for this game.

I don’t care about drifting, why should you have a special mode for something that is just a skill? It’s like driving a bicycle with stability wheels on the side and making engine sound with your mouth.. childish

And this video is making some serious marketing points:
1. That cool dude, was helping with the game.
2. They had an engineer to help him.
3. They spent 100 hours on the whole physics engine.
4. You can really feel like you’re drifting, with any PS3/XBOX360 or PC compatible controller/keyboard.
5. Drifting is not stupid, it’s a lifestyle.
6. NFS Shift is not a video game, it’s for real!

This shift will sell like there were no tomorrow.

I’m split on the issue of drifting.
On one side, I absolutely despise the flashy tackiness and stupidity of it all: stupid looking cars, stupid fans (dRFt izz bettAh thUN r4CeiNG, dAwGGG!!!11!), stupid entourages that sorround the whole drift thing. That and higher costs than club racing (cars really take a punding in drifitng) prevents me from thinking about taking up competition drifitng in real life in the future.
On the other, competition (tandem) drifitng actually seems to make sense and I have no doubts whatsoever it must be tremendous fun.

There’s also the problem I’ve never been able to drift in any sim…

Anyway… for that guy to say “it made me realise it was more than just a video game” while at the same time using a gamepad… well that kinda blew away some credibility for me.
When I had my XBox, I used to drive Forza 2 with a gamepad (its all I had) and it was so unsatisfying. I could manage but it was like eating soup with chopsticks.

Anyway, this guy using a gamepad doesn’t necessarily mean Shift is not going to be a good drive on PC with a wheel. Not at all. Doesn’t mean its any more of an arcade racer because it takes gamepad input either. I mean who here thought Shift wouldn’t have a gamepad option (especially on a console).
rFactor can use the keyboard and thats worse than a gamepad.
Some of todays arcade racers have better physics than the last generation of sims so either way, Shift is going to be some fun racing. I’ll leave my serious hat for rFactor 2.

Drifting is not stupid unless u do it on the Moon……
