Electronic Arts has released three new preview shots of Need for Speed Shift, showing the BMW M3 GT2 in two different liveries as well as the historic Nissan 2000 GT-R.
In the coming weeks, EA will be releasing previews of every single car on the lineup, including shots of the cockpits, giving everyone the chance to check out their favorite car.
Developed by Slightly Mad Studios (former Blimey! Games) and distributed by EA, Need for Speed Shift is expected to be released in September 2009 for the PC and all major consoles. A demo of Shift has been announced to be available this summer.

Damn right, I think it looks better than GT5 and far better than Forza 3. Shift doesn’t get by on pure polygon pushing or fancy lighting, it just has this style that makes the cars look “lived in” and “used.” The sounds of the cars from inside the cockpit are just incredible and the racing experience appropriately look like controlled chaos.
I am starting to think that the physics won’t have to come close to Forza 3 for me to enjoy this title.

There is a chance even for the physics to be better, then Forza’s.

There has been a couple, but they weren’t very revealing.

More great pics. Like the first one especially.
But how many more are we going to be looking at until September comes ? Phew! I reckon we`ll have enough to make a flipbook of an entire event :)

100% sure that the physics in this title are way better then Forza 3. Just ignore the Need for Speed name for a minute and take a look who`s behind this title.

I’ve not played Forza 3 so I can’t judge it but if the physics at least better Forza 2 in terms of feel, then I doubt we’ll be disappointed.
Of course the cars in Shift are going to be moving quite a bit quicker and be more brutal that Forza ever was.

actually, 95% of Shift cars are astonishing (911RSR/MC12/Reventon) .. except the low tier one (VW/AudiS3/Mazdas, etc)

“Right when I was getting over the shock of NFS and Forza actually being comparable, I received another kick jolt once I realized I was actually more excited for SHIFT, which quite simply looks way better in terms of next-gen presentation. Visually speaking, SHIFT actually looks prettier, all the while offering significantly enhanced gameplay from its last title (Thank God). Sure, its scope is significantly smaller, and you know it won’t have a fraction of the community and DLC support as Forza, but all the upgrades feel infinitely more substantial.
If I had to pick a winner – and I do – I’d go with SHIFT. It looks a little more fresh and exciting, while Forza looks like hours more of the beautiful same (but what a value!) Fortunately for me, by the time I finish SHIFT, EA will doubtlessly be hyping its next NFS title AND I won’t head into Forza 3 unprepared!
Never did I ever conceive of a day when an annual Need for Speed game would rival my interest in a new Forza… but here we are. Feel free to call me an asshole in the comments.”

I have never gotten this. How does that “Turn10 guy’s” douchebagness affect your enjoyment of Forza 3? Does Kaz from PD’s smugness and the GT fanboy choir actually affect the physics in a Gran Turismo game? I guess a number of people are also dismissing shift because it’s an NFS game published by EA(Evil Americans).
I hope this horrible attitude doesn’t lead to this game ending up as another Enthusia(crushed by the GTs and Forzas of this world).

I doubt that any NFS game would sell poorly. The last iteration, NFS: Undercover sold over 4 million copies (PS2, PS3, Wii, 360 and PSP combined while I don’t have the number for the PC) despite less than glowing reviews. SHIFT on the other hand has been getting a lof of great writeups from the mainstream gaming sites and personally it’s the driving game I’m most looking forward to this year and that’s a lot coming from a self professed Yamauchi groupie and someone who hasn’t bought a NFS title since Porsche Unleashed. Even if GT5 were to be announced for end of year release, my vote still goes to SHIFT as the console racing game of this year.
