Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed – Release Date Announced

EA has announced the release date for Slightly Mad Studio’s upcoming Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed title that will be available in Europe starting March 10.

While European racers have to wait less than 9 weeks to get their hands on the new title, a release date for the United States doesn’t seem to be available yet. Amazon.com lists Shift 2 Unleashed to be released on March 31, it’s somewhat unlikely that American buyers have to wait three weeks longer though.

Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed will include the 2010 FIA GT1 World Championship & GT3 European Championship among lots of other racing content, new features include a new helmet camera, night racing and more realistic physics. The second Shift title will be available for the PC, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3.

  • The Biff

Top notch graphics from EA but the NFS series is very arcade.

  • phil23

Hmmm. I’m hoping this will be good enough this time!! It would be ideal for me as I take 2 weeks off work in March over my Birthday. It will be gr8 if this and rF2 were both around for me to play during that time :) .

  • simfan

since nfs games are now spread in to 2, hot pursuit and shift, I’d say this time shift will be less arcade and more realistic.

  • zudthespud

I’ll stick in my pre order soon. Shift 1 was really fun but had it’s problems, even if it is only as good as before (which I can’t believe will be the case) the new content has me very interested.

  • Nismo

I think SHIFT2 will suprise alot of people personally. Ok, it’s never gonna be as hardcore as NetKar and iRacing, the devolpers have already said it’s going after GT and Forza. But i think it will be alot more realistic the people think. Whether or not it’s deep enough to keep us guys hooked, who knows but i will be pre-ordering either way, just to lap Bathurst at night

  • Charles Stanley

Do you all think it’ll run at 60 FPS with a res or 1920×1080 and at least 2x AA on a Q9550 with a GTX 275?

This title is interesting to me. If they get decent physics and have the usual quality Codemasters graphics then I’m sold.

  • Carbonfibre

I don’t understand the people who pre-order games.

I especially don’t understand the people who then tell other people they cancelled their pre-order once they read the game is crap. Trying to hurt early sales forecasts?

  • DaOnlineRacer

hopefully the netcode and the input lag is fixed. THEN it really could be a lot of fun, Shift1 was great content wise.

  • Dan

Because you get bonus content for one (40 events and 3 cars unlocked instantly) for no extra cost and guarantees you a copy on the release date.
Also, if people enjoyed the first one, then it’s likely to at least be as good, and from previews already looks better so why not.

  • homerfreak

That game has nothing to do with Codemasters.

  • KlosterKatten

Which sums up games like shift where as when you pre-order a game you haven’t seen a single piece of gamePlay from, is supposed to be paid for in advance just because it gIves you cars that should have been on the game to begin with. Sums this game up real nice.

    Precision & Range Video

    New Info:

Thrustmaster T500 RS The choice of the materials has been an extensive and crucial process in the conception of the T500 RS.
Both our R&D department and Polyphony Digital have spent two months searching and testing the best materials for the wheel. They had to be both soft & sleek to fit with the 3 full turns and the high speed of rotation (when you let slip the wheel rim spinning back to centre at very high speed, you do not want to get blisters in your palm).
Moreover the raw materials had to be 100% identical, from one wheel to another, from of the production chain.
Last the selected chemical composition contributes to reach the density & weight desired to obtain the right inertia ratio between wheel rim and engine friction.
Therefore we selected the right chemical formula of a specific rubber matching these requirements.
Besides the red strip is made of steel and helps you to always know your position. Also, the plastron is made of a thick authentic brushed metal plate for more realism.

  • Dan

The cars are in the game to begin with, just not unlocked…  You don’t have to preorder and you will still get the content eventually.  Sounds like your summing up a game you haven’t seem a single piece of gameplay from… :P

  • Carbonfibre

It’s no use Mr PR guy, your wheel is priced way out of the competition. There isn’t even a H-Shifter with the T500 and Logitech wheels are still the best choice for reasons beyond these smart technological features.

  • AeroMechanical

I’m pretty optimistic about it.  Shift was ultimately marred by a few obvious flaws in the implementation–shortcomings they had to have been aware of but were probably unable to sort out in the time EA gave them (the FFB lag being the biggest issue IMO).

  • AeroMechanical

Meh, if you’re sure you’re going to buy it anyways, why not?  You might lose out on the five or so cents of interest your money would have made in a savings account, but you’re (usually) guaranteed to find it waiting for you on your doorstep when you come home from work on release day.  Moreover, if you’re keen on supporting a developer, pre-orders are pretty important to them.

That said, I never bother myself with the possible exception of Steam games when they do that pre-download thing.

  • xxxxx

    Uninformed Clown AKA Carbonfibre

there is a shifter in both H and sequential mode, and only that you compare Logitech TOY wheels with this one shows your ignorance.

  • Jozo

Please remove this spam and stick to the subject: Shift 2

  • 07wtcc

cool, Shift2 – March, Forza 4 – november. Pretty good year for virtual petrolheads !!

  • KlosterKatten

Yeah lets also ignore rfactor2 and simbins new game, and instead think about the half-arcade games you listed

  • Silly(c)One

“Moreover, if you’re keen on supporting a developer, pre-orders are pretty important to them”

The Codemasters and Electronics Arts boards of directors would like to thank you to make them richer while the developpers work their ass off 16 hours a day for a standard peon salary.

At least support the ones that really need support : netKar-Pro and the likes !

    Damn capitalist puppets… :(
    Open your eyes guys !

  • Kramer

Its exactly people like you KlosterKatten that smear this community.
No-one is forgetting rfactor2 or simbins new game but the guy is entitled to his opinion of what he is looking forward to.
plus i think you are going to be wrong about shift 2 being half arcade – whatever that means.
how do you define half arcade ?   whatever your definition is Ill bet its different to other peoples whose opinion will be different again.

you, like others, think the word “simulation” only covers titles like rfactor and netkar etc.   but youd be wrong.  f1-2010 is a simulation regardless of what you think of its physics.
forza and shift 2 will be also.   its all a question of degree.

got a gut feeling though that shift 2 is going to surprise a few people if they dare admit to it.

  • Silly(c)One

That being said, I’m looking forward to give it a go. If their “experts physics mode” is worth a cent and works with X-Sim with enough resolution, it should be great.

I loved Shift1 until I started on the real sims, then the physics were so slippery that I couldn’t have any fun after GTR Evo, iRacing, etc. Too bad because the arcade feeling of the game is a welcome change to the seriousness of our beloved sims (and also the graphics are gorgeous, the Green Hell atmosphere in NFSS is terrific)

  • jimmy

Sorry, but my definition of a simulation is that authors are trying to create game which is as close to reality as possible. F1 2010 certainly was not made with such intention.

  • 07wtcc

what are the dates for Simbin game and rF2?

  • phil23

    @ 07wtcc. rF2 is said to be early 2011 this is and Simbins (GTR3??) late 2011 :) .

    No confirmed dates though.

  • phil23

    @ 07wtcc. rF2 is said to be early 2011 and Simbins (GTR3??) late 2011 <img src=”extra/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/img/smiley-smile.gif” title=”Smile” border=”0″ alt=”Smile”/> .

  • Kramer

No need to be sorry Jimmy :)
Thats a fair definition.  But the word simulation really isn’t linked to an authors goals.
I agree that F1-2010 was not made with the intention of being a pure sim as we like to think  it is still a simulation.   You cannot argue that it simulates driving a Formula1 car.   It is simulated driving.
The error comes when people think that “simulation” can only refer to the purist stuff.
NFS Hot Pursuit simulates car racing.   Its no rfactor by any stretch of the imagination but it still simulates it.

Besides whos going to arcades and playing games like Forza and Shift????   Its ridiculous this arcade/simulation division.   Arcade is so 80′s

  • Oggy

THAT’S what it’s called. Input lag made the game unplayable at high speeds.

  • 1nkz

hope they fix the horrible Shift1 physics, otherwise we’ll need to do moreee and more mods

  • zzz

    rF2 – when its done
    GTR3- when its done
    :)

  • Bob

Why would you want them to fix shift 1 physics when shift 2 is about to come out?

  • Stu

GT5, Shift 2, Dirtr 3 (Real Rally!), Test Drive Unlimited 2 then Forza 4 is looking pretty good this year.

  • Carbonfibre

The last AAA sequel I trusted to be good before it’s release was L4D2.
A single bit of news about rF2 is worth one of Shift’s teaser trailers (as a sort of “interested” ratio)

  • Fuler

Yeah it’s going to be a great year for pseudo simulators and arcade games

  • KlosterKatten

F1 2010 is not a simulation, it does not simulate an f1 race properly and lacks many things.

Shift will probably not have proper damage either, tire wear and fuel consumption will be non-existant. You want to call this a simulation? Go right ahead. Its not.

  • sommergemuese

@ KlosterKatten I think it will have fuel and tyre consumption. (I am really sure) An now?

  • gniewko

would be nice if rF2 or SimBin could make half as good graphics as the arcades have … are there really no talented graphicians which ISI or SimBin could employ???

  • Markuz

As long as they’re trying to compete against GT or Forza and not giving a damn against Burnout this time I think they won’t be giving us confused Shift1 physics. Interesting.

… I want my Sandy Bridge already.

  • Markuz

I think he meant Shift 2 not having the “confused” Shift 1 physics. You know, cars going drift-crazy on races with an invisible rubber band anti-skid prototection yet those same cars drive like 2000HP F1s on ice on the actual drift races? Then add the brake balance bug that the devs never bothered to fix on Shift 1.

  • Michael

No it won’t be a surprise. EA couldn’t surprise anyone if they turned out the lights, hid behind the door, waited until they got home then jumped out and shouted “boo”

It’ll be released. It’ll be full of bugs. They’ll use the same threats of risk of loss of money, risk of loss of access to console preview networks and fudging reviewers about whether they have the actual release code or not that most game publishers use to ensure that none of the reviews mention a single one of the bugs.

After 1 or 2 patches that fix a small %age of the bugs (and add a few new ones) they’ll never release anything for the game again.

SMS staffers and EA reps will blather on and on in the press about the realism and physics, but this will all be demonstrated to be BS. In fact during an interview for the launch of Shift 3 Patrick Suderland will quite openly state that it was BS just as he did at the launch of this title when talking about shift 1.

  • Bob

    Oh right. Fix those fizzicks!

  • The Biff

lol…sim racers are about the unfriendliest bunch on the internet.  I play arma2 quite a bit and the community at armaholics is amazing.  Come to sim racing and wow what a difference.  Lots of know it all egomaniacs.

  • traind

Profit for publishers keeps developers in the black as well.  It isn’t a crime to make a profit as long as it is done ethically.

  • lans

only 2 months /more or less until release and theres very little hype, how do they intend to beat gt5?
