NASCAR Sim Series 3.3 – Released

Posted on March 5th, 2008 in

The combination of NASCAR and rFactor is a rather confusing story. It looks as every other week, a new NASCAR mod surfaces while we already have more than you could shake a stick at. NASCAR Sim Series throw themselves in the ring with their new 3.3 version.

The mod is based on the COT model by the Superspeedway.net mod for NASCAR 2003. This is a good base to start with as the model is rather good looking, even though NR2003 is not the newest sim anymore. The mod comes with all 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup teams, representing all four manufacturers. The mod also comes with 22 tracks of varying quality, all wrapped in a nice menu system with good looking loading screen and such.

This is certainly one of the better NASCAR mods for rFactor, those of you looking for a high quality COT should wait for the final TPSCC version though.

Montoya: Couldn’t disagree more with you about waiting for the final version of TPSCC. NASCAR Sim Series 3.3 is a much better mod than TPSCC, with a better physics and racing model. TPSCC is the most overrated NASCAR mod in rFactor, getting a free pass and too much publicity only because NR 2003 track and physics guru Brian Ring is behind it. NSS is a very good mod. But none of the rFactor NASCAR mods can touch NR 2003. rFactor has a road-racing engine, and no amount of tweaking to build and oval sim can overcome that. NR 2003 was built around an oval-racing engine, and playing the game proves that. Keep up the great work with your blog!

I completely agree, NR 2003 is still the benchmark when it comes to NASCAR simulations. Thats why I usually don’t use NASCAR rFactor mods.

On the other hand, TheSimFactory seemed to have made the ISI engine work for stock car racing. So it obviously is possible.
