NASCAR 09 – Finally Decent?

It is somewhat of a pain to watch EA Sport’s NASCAR franchise over the years. As a big fan of the sport, every year I am hoping they do something worthwhile with the million-dollar license and every year it’s a let down. Last year, everybody was hoping for a decent 08 version. Action-packed NASCAR-racing meets next-gen consoles – This has to be a keeper, right? Wrong!
New year, new luck as EA Sports has revealed first info on NASCAR 09 for XBOX 360 and the Playstation 3. Even though both consoles are able to put out beautiful graphics, the first preview shots still maintain the odd graphical atmosphere of the 08 version – This might be a matter of taste though. The shots are very much beta (or alpha) as none of the cars have any manufacturer-specific decals yet.
New features include improved AI and more involvement from NASCAR’s famous drivers. When starting your career, you can relay on tips and advice from Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart or Juan Pablo Montoya. At least in that part of the game, EA is making the most of their license. A full preview can be found over at Gamespot, the rather near release-date (June 10) keeps me worried that this will be another quickly developed mainstream product we´ll going to forget quickly.
