BTCC 1998 for GTR Evolution – First Preview

Back in September, MMG announced to start working on the 1998 season of the British Touring Car Championship, one of the first scratch-made mods for GTR Evolution.

Following the announcement, it was pretty silent around the ambitious project. Eight months later, the team has released a first preview and disclosed some details on the planned features.

The preview shows the Peugeot 406 model as raced in the 1998 season, the French manufacturer faced competition from notable manufacturers including Ford, Nissan, Volvo & Honda.

The mod is planned to make extensive use of the game’s damage model as many parts such as bumpers, lights, doors & wheels will break off the car in a crash. Furthermore, MMG is experimenting with including window-damage, a feature that might not make it into the mod due to the game’s limitations.

    Good News indeed. I only hope the BTCC management is not going to try and kill of MMG. I can vaguely remember what happened the last time someone tried to do a BTCC mod.

    I remeber the BTCC 1998 from Toca2. One of my first race games. Very nice cars indeed. Nice Work !

    Yeah, I thought “Thats very bold using BTCC in a mod name” Alan Gow is very VERY protective of his trademarks.

    They should call it the British Saloon Car Championship

    Its quite strange in a way for BTCC & A1GP to kill mods when the biggest basterd of the lot, St Bernard of EFF 1 has a team of cretins killing F1 vids on the web but is not bothered by our little world. That might change next year, though I hope not.

    TBH I doubt they will need to kill this as I have more chance with Sienna Miller than this getting released before we all die of pig flu or a Britain’s Got (no) Talent induced coma :haha:

    I had forgotten about this, it’s a long way off but I am looking forward to it! Was a big fan of Toca2 and to race these in a modern sim would be fantastic!

    If you look at their thread at Racedepartment there are pics of their Nissan Primera as well. :happy:

    It’s looking like we’ll finally have a quality Super Touring mod in the future. :cool:
