Live for Speed – Test Patch Z13 Released

The Live for Speed team have released a new test patch for their simulation, adressing various small issues with the sim.

The patch is fully online compatible to version Z, also supporting replays made with the Z version. The patch is available for download below, including a version for dedicated servers.

The patch does not include the much anticipated VW Scirocco though, the German road car had been announced to be released in late 2008 but got postponed shortly after. Five months later, there still is no word on when LfS racers will be getting their hands on the Scirocco.

Changelog:

Progress indicator for skin downloads while joining a host
Improved order of sort by version number in List of Hosts
Unlock screen clear button to remove name and password
Direction to turn is shown when leaving pit garage
Blue and yellow flags removed from cruise mode
Removed Español Latino translation

If this game does not suddenly pulls S3, we can say that this technically DEAD.

  • AeroMechanical

Dead would be a pretty strong word, but they sure as hell don’t seem to be in a hurry to get anywhere. I fear that if it takes much longer the core elements will become too outdated and continuing minor updates will become irrelevent.

I’d hoped that S3 would turn out to be a 2009 thing, but that seems unlikely. If this is all of the progress that has been made since the beginning of the year, I don’t hold out a whole lot of hope–maybe of even *ever* seeing S3. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt though. It’s not like the development has suddenly slowed, it’s been this way for a long time. The worry that stands out now though is that I’d assumed that they had been working on S3 in the background while releasing the incremental S2 patches, but now I doubt that.

It’s still a fine sim with an active community though, but the future doesn’t seem to hold as much promise as it once did.

this game never will be S3, I think its finished, and just need some rain.

LFS is better than some of the stuff that Simbin and iRacing make.

Hmm well Simbin has sims with AI that work and iRacing is far more up to date and accurate.

LFS’ progress is too slow and it will outdate itself at this pace.

I raced LFS almost exclusively for years, putting in over 50k miles online. Then last summer I switched over completely to iRacing. It feels so much more real. On 2 or 3 occasions since the switch I’ve gone back to LFS for a few hours at a time, and it just feels dull and lifeless in comparison. It’s really sad for me. LFS was the king for a long time, but its developers just haven’t kept up while others have been making progress. It still has certain advantages (low cost, suitability for league racing, extremely efficient coding) but overall it seems to be fading.

They should have opened the whole thing up and made it totally moddable. New tracks, new real life tracks, cars and community involvement are what keeps a sim alive. Trying to avoid all the negative aspects of overactive and imaginative community content has been very counter productive. The LFS engine and physics model was well ahead of its time. Codemasters could learn one hell of a lot from LFS. . .

LFS physics, Codemasters graphics. . . that really would be the best F1 sim ever!
