The Live for Speed development team has announced the first ever real racing track to be making it into their simulation as Britain’s Rockingham Motor Speedway will be joining LfS.
Rockingham won’t just be the first real track to be included in Live for Speed, it will also be the first laser-scanned track to join the simulation. Thanks to the laser scanning, the team has archived a very impressive level of detail as you can see below. The track will be released as part of a S3 license update together with another new car, a release date has not yet been announced.
Located in Northhamptonshire, Rockingham Motors Speedway is best known as the UK’s host of two CART Grand Prix in 2001 and 2002. Aside from the 1.47 mile oval configuration that was used by CART, the track also includes a 1.94 mile road course and twelve other configurations used for various events.

Looks really good. Nice to see LFS still getting it done. I’ve always really been more interested in real tracks, which is why i hate to admit I didn’t give LFS the focus it deserved. Hope more are on the way.

Amazing !!!!!!!!!!!
LFS S3 + rFactor 2 + future updates to the NetKar.
All I need is to win the lottery to have time to play all games.

That’s really bitter sweet. Laser scanning… very interesting! Rockingham? Very tedious! What a horrible track.
Watching the TV coverage of this week’s Touring Car racing from there I see I’m not the only one who thinks that way. There seemed to be more people on the track than in the crowd. :->
Still, any LFS news is better than none. And those screenshots do look pretty impressive. I may be forced to dust off S2 and allow myself to start looking forward to S3 again.

I’ll wait until the new tire physics is released. Until then, I don’t plan on extending my LFS license.

Screenshot 3, 4 and 5 are somehow corrupted? Good news from LFS! Just what I needed after the disappointing release of shift.

I think those are just some screenshots out of the editor. The devs mentioned that not only did they get the positions of an object, but also it’s color :)

@aliasx
If you look closely, you’ll notice the “corruption” is actually lots of dots. Laser scanning doesn’t just magically give you a contoured race track, you do it bit by bit.

Damn, i like the comparison with the little pole! very very nice :D
@Felipe. Im not sure but i think yes. Every update pack will cost you money, but not as much as you would pay for a complete new game…

They need to do something about the sounds. I totally respect that they are trying to synthesize the sounds instead of using samples but they sound kind of crappy.
CSR helps a little but is not a good fix as it only changes the player’s engine noise and doesn’t work in replays.

You sir, are a complete tool.
Rockingham is a fantastic circuit which offers a good driving challenge and gives many overtaking opportunities.
I was there at the weekend watching the BTCC and support races – all of which were fantastic – and I can tell you now there were more people than you seem to realise. Both main and turn 1 grandstands were full, with a large number of people on the infield and paddock. I would say at least 20,000 people attended on the race day, which considering it was the Goodwood festival that day, is a very good number indeed – especially for BTCC racing.
Go take your snotty comments and uneducated guesses elsewhere.

Oh yes someone disagrees with your opinion of the circuit so let’s insult them!
This is a step forward but LFS still has some progress to make before I buy an S3 license, one car and one track won’t cut it yet. We’ll see how good the new tyre physics are.

You know, you’re right. When I think road racing in the UK, Rockingham shoots right to the front of my mind. It’s an iconic British circuit with decades of history. Bernie should move the British GP there, not Donington.
In fact, who needs tedious, vanilla, sanitized circuits like Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Oulton Park, Snetterton, Thruxton, Donington Park, Cadwell Park and Castle Combe when you have the glorious roval at Rockingham?
Bottom line: The man is entitled to his opinion of Rockingham. I’m happy LFS is finally offering a licensed track, but I share Andrew’s opinion of Rockingham.

Wow, great news! Finally a real race track in LFS, laser scanned at that.
Hope this trend to continue with other real tracks, too.

I’m afraid I actually agree with Andrew. Of all the tracks in the UK, Rockingham must be the worst.
Still, a real track for LFS is good news.

LFS team please.. less annoucements and more releases. not even excited for this as i’ve been waiting for the last announced update to be released for a year now?

It was supposed to be announced a lot closer to the release (which is unknown) but there were gaming rigs with this track at the Rockingham BTCC race, so that kinda spilled out the secret.
I assume tyre physics & VW Scirocco and this S3-Rockingham patch will be separate patches.

If your waiting for S3 Im sure you wont mind waiting until 2050 because with the way the development is over the past two years it will take them that long to get S3 alpha out to the public. I have an S2 licence since day one and an S1 licence with 5 years. I will still buy an S3 licence if its released within the next 50 years.
