Live for Speed – New Tire Model & Scirocco Previews

Back in December, the Live for Speed developers announced that the VW Scirocco road car would be joining their simulation soon.

The release was postponed shortly after and there were no updates on the Scirocco until now. The developers have announced to be working on a new tire model since then, the old tire model prevented them from simulating the car accurately because they offered too much grip.

There’s no release date for the new model and the Scirocco yet, the new tires have already been tested sucessfully by the beta team though. More info on the matter can be found here, below are some fresh previews of VW’s popular road car.

I loved the physics of this game, and the game itself has lots of potential.

Stopped playing a few months ago though, dev cycle is going to slow.

The tires in this game are a joke. :sd: :sd: :sd:
At 30 degrees you have more grip than a tire at 85 degrees, etc, I hope they are given a complete overhaul to the tire…

Too much grip? That should be interesting, I always felt the cars had too little if anything, especially on the high downforce open wheelers. Or atleast I think I did, its been a while since I played lfs…….

Sorry LFS but you passed you’re sell by date long ago. iRacing as taken your spot as physics champ. The least the devs could do to salvage the game would be to open source it and let the community continue the development.

Though most of the modding community have already invested in rFactor, so they’re pretty much overdue to walk that road now. :weird: No hard feelings, good luck!

I just started playing LfS again, and I have to say, I’m looking forward to this new tyre model. And the VWS

LFS is still my number one race sim for online, no rip off prices like iRacing and with only 1 3d modeller, 1 coder and 1 website guy then you cant exactly say slow as Scawen has been working alone on the tyre model since December, i think he’s doing a great job. LFS for me is still king.

A street tire (that I assume you are referring to) will melt at 85 degrees, so I don’t know what’s the problem.

    Wow. Real LFS news? Amazing!

I’ll probably give this a quick try when it gets released since I drove so much LFS before iRacing came along, but I doubt it’s going to be enough of a difference to compare to iRacing physics-wise. I think all LFS can do now is cover the low cost / indie / casual online racing angles. It would be cool if they could somehow prove everyone wrong, though. They achieved an incredible amount for such a small team but then things just ground to a halt… can’t do that when other people with serious money start playing in the same space.

I don’t think iRacing is any threat to LFS in reality – LFS has always appealed to the younger person who deosn’t have the disposable income for iRacing. Look how popular the demo is and always was. The numbers racing LFS on-line haven’t shown a noticeable decline since iRacing’s arrival.

I used to be a fairly big fan of LFS – but fell out with it when it simply lagged behind other sims in every area.

There are some good things about it, but then there are some very bad things too.

Fantasy cars and tracks, the poor graphics engine, the old ‘squash’ damage system, poor UI and the sheer volume of kids put me off eventually and I never looked back.

Sad to say it cannot compete with the likes of NKPro, iRacing, rFactor and so on.

Yeh, lfs used to be my sim of choice for tin-tops but i reckon rfactor well and truly surpassed it with some of the top mods that have come out last couple of years. And with the open wheelers feeling completely wrong, a lot hinges on this tyre update imo.

And I think DW is spot on, iracing will definitely be off-limits to many younger people since theyll already be spending their cash on WoW :sd:
