A new preview video of Virtua_LM’s Le Mans 1991-1996 rFactor track has surfaced on Youtube, showing a lap around the Circuit de la Sarthe in what seems to be a Lancia Beta Montecarlo from the team’s GTX5 mod.
The team’s 1972-1986 version of the French track is already one of the most popular tracks for rFactor and other simulations, the new version will incorporate the changes made to the track in the 90s, most notably the new pit building and the two chicanes on the legendary Mulsanne straight.

Excellent stuff. The earlier version were too boring to play due to the long Mulsane.
You could put a brick on the accelerator, open a beer can and relax :)

You better not tell that those brave men that used to race cars like the Porsche 917 on the chicane-less Mulsanne in the rain, exceeding 370kph

The work of VirtuaLM outperform many “professional developers”…

I find it funny. I LOATHE what happens when they add stuff to old classic tracks. Yet with Le Mans, it’s the ONLY track in the world I think is BETTER with the modern changes.
As for VirtuaLM… I’m messing around with offline endurance races in GTR2 and was wondering where to race, and thought “Mid Ohio” knowing full well that I could trust the AI would be good, the track would be good etc… And it is (on all counts).
VirtuaLM are awesome.

Virtua LM. Still the NR.1´s at track building in my opinion. Great stuff created by hard work.

Well of course it looks nice, its VLM :)
But lots of turns are wrong.
the Esses de la Forêt : too wide and too much gap between the left turn and the right turn.
Same goes for Indianpolis : too much gap between the very fast right kink and the Indianapolis turn itself.
Mulsanne isn’t tight enough.
Ford Chicanes are really too fast.
Just look at this video and you’ll see :

But well, i’m waiting for this track anyway :)

Indianapolis always seems really tight in VLM versions, but looking at onboards of the 787b and CLR its much more of a curve than the sharp 90 left it seems in the rFactor versions.

Any info whether or not they plan to release it also on other platforms just like they did for their previous tracks?

THis video makes me sad…
The track is brilliant (just like the ‘72-’86 version). But every single time I see VLM’s work I realize that it’ll take years till we see a modern day version of Circuit de la Sarthe close to that quality. If we’re lucky.

VLM somehow manage to get really natural looking colour into their tracks – nothing else comes close to that ‘VLM’ look imho.
I’m hoping that me and my buddies will be able to race on this as soon as we get back from the real thing in a week or so :D
Is it reasonable to suspect that this will be released next weekend? The rFactor Central WIP page shows only 60% completion :( Any thoughts?

To bad that the video has been taken down, the sound of that Lancia was so sweet!

When all’s said and done I’m not sure I as a gamer can justify waiting a full year for a single track, no matter how good, even if it’s free.
I’d prefare the VLM team to go professional and put out a fully featured commercial title every year or two.
In all likelhood GT5 and Forza 3 will feature the latest Le Mans circuit, these titles, plus NFS Shift, will also feature the Nordschliefe.
The days of the world’s best circuits only being on the PC are long over.
