superapex, it certainly doesn’t work for me. I can hold my own in real racing but I completely suck in simracing. So my opinion is similar to GeraArg’s.

GeraArg, your perception of Sim racing is completely off. I’m not saying that the simulators we drive are absolutely realistic but I am saying that the skill sets that enable you to be a fast driver in the sim world transfer over nicely to the real world. There have been a ton of examples of fast sim racers jumping into a car they had never driven before and turning out some fast laps in real life. When the processing power reaches a certain level, their will be almost no distinction between reality and simulation.

One thing is driving a kartig (or any racecar), another thing is to PLAY iRacing (or any commercial simulator).
With simulators you can learn basics concepts, but you must remember that it is a GAME, is NOT the reality, the difference is extremely, extremely, extremely, extremely and more extremely huge….
This is the same as the GT Academy, is a commercial proposition and is excellent to do so.

Crazy Bored: I would be interested to see what kind of costs are involved in this Jetta series.

It is 30k if you make it. Free, if you make it with iRacing. Even rental karts - that's what? 2-3 hours? iRacing - all year.

I do love putting a new set of tires on my kart but they cost more than a year subscription to iRacing. If you think the price of iRacing compares to even the lowest level racing in real life, then I disagree. I would be interested to see what kind of costs are involved in this Jetta series.

I’m skeptical as far as the ‘pay-to-drive’ simracing goes, but I cannot deny that this is great news. There are thousands of people around the world (me included) who will never make the jump to professional racing just because the costs are that much higher. Such people until now have been condemned to stay on the amateur level for the rest of their lives. Perhaps now, with iRacing, a new gateway has been created…

I’ve watched these cars in real life. They are so funny to watch because all you hear is the tires. We figured it would be a boring suport race but it turned out being one of the most exciting suport races of the weekend.

I’m sure VW TDI Cup is subsidizing the season… not iRacing should you get selected. I’m sure iRacing is paying some marketing fees etc.. but this is a mutually beneficial thing for iRacing and the VW TDI cup.. they both get exposure

I guess they really are earning their money from memberships to be able to run this kind of event but anyways props to iracing this is amazing chance for simmers.
