iRacing.com – Talladega Announced

iRacing.com has announced to add the Talladega Superspeedway to the lineup of tracks in their online racing simulation, giving subscribers the chance to race one one of NASCAR’s most famous ovals.

Located in Talladega (Alabama), the 2,66 mile superspeedway is the largest and most steeply banked oval in the NASCAR Sprint Cup schedule. Due to the high speeds reached on the track, Talladega is one of two restrictor plate race tracks alongside Daytona. The track opened in 1969 and accommodates 1750.000 spectators, hosting races of all major NASCAR divisions.

In similar news, iRacing has also announced a partnership with Volkswagen of America, allowing competitors of the VW Jetta TDI cup to use the simulation as a training device. Right now, this partnership is limited to drivers of the real-life series , a future co-operation with VW that will interest all iRacers will be announced soon.

Another fucking circle? I’m a fully paid up iRacing fanboy, but seriously – I am sick of driving in circles.

  • drowsy

Well, what can you do, Americans seem to love only turning in one direction. :)

I’ve grown to like actually racing on ovals through iRacing, but watching other people do it is about the most boring thing I can think of.

  • ermax18

Yeah come on. Where is Road Atlanta, MoSport and PBIR? PBIR has been on the list from the get go.

  • ibyte_dk

In the US how can you escape the Police in a car chase?

If he is a Nascar fan: Take a right turn and you are home free!

  • ermax18

ibyte_dk, hahaha, I will keep that in mind. :)

As has been posted on the members forum, there is a reason. It’ll become known. :)

Nearing completion. It has only just started to thaw. It has only just stopped being torn apart and put back together.

@ altrezia  i wonder how much they are charging for a circle track, dizzy dizzy.
Lol @ ibyte_dk, best thing I’ve heard all day.

That’s what people think. Then again people are idiots. The US has tons of road racing tracks and many racing organizations both amateur and professional that are quite popular.

And their race tracks are not as sanatised either. VIR, Watkins Glen, Road America, Road Atlanta – wonderful tracks that would probably have been altered massively (and horribly) if they were outside the USA.

as strange as it might be, and as a long time rFactor and GTR fan and modder, for me there still is nothing that even comes close to iRacings professionalism. its the only sim that makes you feel you are running a real career. if you look at videos , the gfx engine may seem old , but in full HD the thing looks awesome. ones you get used to the style, it actually looks better then what you are used to.
There has been allot of bitching about iRacing and its price. for me it has been the best value for money ever. 8000 members . no hassle getting in a race. flawless netcode. full real time stats. build in voice communication, and most important! , a penalty system that makes everyone race instead of ramming each other..
Conciddering the projects that are in the pipeline, i will regard iRacing as the most professional sim for a long time to come. I keep on modding GTR2 , and have a race now and then in rFactor. but the big I will not be beaten by any of them in my book.

True, the United States definetely have some of the most amazing road courses in the world. Pretty much everything in Europe has ever been closed or heavily altered with pretty much just the Nürburgring Nordschleife as exception.

What I don’t get is why everybody is always quick to bash on NASCAR. I never see any NASCAR fans taking the piss out of road racing, yet the NASCAR haters always feel the need to be negative.

  • ermax18

The “average” NASCAR fan thinks road racing means racing on public streets from light to light. They don’t bash it because they don’t even know other forms of racing exist. Again, I am talking about the “average” person here.

Road Atlanta will be the next road racing track. According to the staff it should be released within about a month.

I’m not sure what you mean by this. Granted, some of the F1 tracks (though thankfully not Spa, Silverstone or Monza) have been stripped of their soul by a certain Mr Tilke and turned into hairpin- and chicane-fests. But most of the other tracks have been kept in pretty much their original layout for years. Just last weekend I was at Oulton Park, standing no more than 8 or 9 metres from the track, at the fastest part of the course, with no catch fencing. Check it out on Google Earth: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&lr=lang_en&cd=1&geocode=FdRjKwMdgUnY_w&split=0&sll=53.800651,-4.064941&sspn=6.881357,14.941406&ll=53.173999,-2.619767&spn=0.000563,0.001717&t=h&z=20 (the red dot is a rubbish bin and indicates the closest you can get to the track). I’ve heard from many visitors to Watkins Glen that it’s a total fence-fest, impossible to get near to the track and, even if you can, you have to look through the mesh of a catch fence. Being a Brit I can vouch for Brands Hatch, Thruxton, Mallory Park, Lydden Hill, Castle Combe and Croft all being in almost exactly the same guises as 40 years ago, and spectators can still get pretty close to the action without their view being blocked by catch fencing. Don’t get me wrong though, all the tracks you listed are unquestionably brilliant, particularly Road Atlanta. It just seemed a shame to me to read said comments by Watkins Glen spectators, showing that the track is still just as great for drivers but the spectators have been neglected and pushed further and further away from the action.

I disagree with you. There are wonderful road courses in the US, but IMO Zandvoort, Spa-Francorchamps and even Hockenheimring have been altered to better. They perhaps lack the thrill factor they had in the 60-70′s but they are nevertheless great for close and exciting racing.

another circle for rednecks? oh c’mon…

If you dont like iracing simply choose another sim is that simply. I personally enjoy oval and road, and cant wait for Talladega it is going to be interesting.

  • ermax18

I must be be missing something. What makes this left hand circle any more interesting then the others?

This track is the longest of all NASCAR tracks and only one of two on which restrictor plates are used.

Just because they´re all ovals doesen’t mean they´re the same or provide the same racing. Saying that Talladega and (for example) Martinsville are “the same” is as ignorant as saying Le Mans and the Nordschleife are the same because they have both corners and straights.

If you ever bothered to watch a race at Talladega you can instantly notice how different it is compared to other ovals. Partly because of the restrictor plate which allows to the full field to run together. But even Daytona and Talladega as restrictor plate tracks are very different as Talladega allows three-wide racing while Daytona usually does not.

Pretty much. Oh yeah and watch out when attending a race in person. The confederate flag waving knuckle dragging types tend to bring down the family atmosphere at these events.

Yawn..and yet still no paypal still….

  • navalhawkeye

They have to work with paypal to get it to work right. One of the staff members posted a while ago saying that it is not possible to just simply put a paypal cart it because it doesn’t communicate with their database in the right way.

And, the people that are complaining about more ovals, just go away. You are so one sided, it’s getting extremely old. We (oval racers, Americans (road or oval racers)), have put up with nothing but Euro tracks and cars for what, 7 years? We have very rarely even complained about that. But, now we actually get a chance to have American ovals, and road courses and the massive complaining starts right up. Get over yourselves.

  • http://www.bsimracing.com BSR-WiX

iRacing is about Ovals and roadracing. i might mention that they even where so nice to keep the two championships in its own series. You can choose , road or Oval, or both. what more can we ask. The tracks that are allready in iRacing are all laserscanned jewels. i would not mind having more Euro tracks , but for now the american ones have done the job , and kept me hooked for more then 7 months now.

why do people always start to comment on things they dont like? If you dont like it , then just dont do it. trying to slander it , says more about the poster then the tracks IMO

  • Howie47

Oval racing used to be about who made the fastest and best enduring car. and who was the most risk taking talented driver. That died along time ago.
Now the cars are all generic. The racing about who can put togeather the best racing team. How can you mimic this in a Sim?
