iRacing.com – New Lotus Preview Video & NHMS Available

iRacing has released another preview video of the upcoming Lotus 79 Formula One car, showing the historical championship-winning car from the outside at Watkins Glen.

Driven by notable drivers such as Mario Andretti and Ronnie Peterson, the 79 was the first Formula One car to make full use of ground effect aerodynamics. The car scored 7 wins in 26 races, helping Mario Andretti to win the 1978 Formula One world championship. The car will be able for purchase in August, being the first Formula One car in iRacing.

In related news, the New Hampshire Motor Speedway is now available for iRacing subscribers to purchase. Located in Loudon, the track is a multi-purpose racing facility, including a one mile oval that hosts races of all mayor NASCAR divisions as well as a road course that combines parts of the oval with a full blown road racing track outside the oval.

    Bought Hampshire straight away. ‘Cause I’m in 100% club, track cost only 11,25$(or 7,8€), so it was practically free.

    NHMS is probably the most realistic looking sim track ever. All the surface variations are great.

    it cost $11.25 which is not free, it might be a bargain compared to other iRacing purchases but I guess it shows how times are changing when a $10 track purchase is considered a give away.

    Is this another video in which the Lotus is using the Radical engine noise? I hope so, because that engine sounds more like a Kawasaki than a DFV!

    I’m still very eager to drive this mod. The car model looks great, and I’m sure the physics will be ace. But the sound? Well …

    i did find most sounds in iRacing outstanding. Lots of detail in them , so i do expect the lotus to have the same quality.

    Yeah, I’m usually so busy trying to hit my marks, keep the car on track, etc., that I don’t pay much attention to the sound. But the Lotus in that video does sound more like a Legends car than a throaty Cosworth DFV V8. No biggie if it drives well, which I expect it will!

    One has to admit that there’s one thing iRacing is doing a really outstanding job in: advertising.

    But it starts to get nerving.

    By the frequency iRacing advertising “info” (which is releasing the same info in different way over and over again every 2 days) shows up here you could almost get the impression there’s either nothing else to tell from whole sim racing world or iRacing is more active than all publishers and modders of all other platforms alltogether

    What’s for example the use of a < 10 sec “preview” video of a car, where that car rushes by at high speed from big distance ? I mean, other use that doing iRacing advertising, which would even be ok, unless same crap comes up every 2 days at least

    A 10 second preview of a car means more to me than 3 helmet paints for a mod.

    Admittedly that helmet article was indeed even more useless…

    I guess next we’ll probably be informed by “top news” headlines about each single line of code devs put into a sim. Or every single poligon added to a car will cause another “preview” screenshot. Previews of various stages of texture making would be outstanding as well :roll:

    Would you prefer the alternative, a blogosphere without dedicated guys like Montoya delivering you plenty of great racing sim news at VirtualR?

    I sure as hell wouldn’t.

    If you aren’t interested in some of the content, don’t read it. But don’t b*tch about the lengths that Montoya goes to deliver sim news. You may not be interested in some entries, but I guarantee someone is.

    Montoya offers category links. Under the main bar there is a horizontal white bar which lists all categories. Simply click the category you are interested in and it will only display posts from that category. You can even bookmark them.
