iRacing.com has released a new preview video of the upcoming New Hampshire Motor Speedway track for their online racing simulation, comparing real life footage with a virtual lap.
Also called Loudon, New Hampshire Motor Speedway is a rather unusual track as it’s a multi-purpose racing facility. Alongside the oval configuration that hosts two annual NASCAR Sprint Cup races, the track offers a real road course configuration that, for the most part, runs outside the oval and not in the infield as most other roval circuits in the US. The HD video shows a lap around the road course, enjoy!

Looks very accurate!
Only i get the idea that sunlight makes everything look slightly more yellow in the real video.
Where the iracing version looks quite blue and cold.

Is the track recently resurfaced before iracing laserscanned it and after the other video?

It does look interesting but, hows the FFB feeling? And what about a cockpit view to see the steering compensations?

Gelink – Yes they scraped the inside of the oval and relaid it for the benefit of the NASCAR races. They also relaid a patch on the roadcourse where you rejoin the oval (there’s a square on the surface). They also chopped down a tree. Our version is more accurate with regards surface and objects than the video, but I couldn’t find a more recent video. :)
F0xx – take advantage of the free first month, which you can cancel at any time prior to the second month, and find out for yourself. Nobody can tell you what it feels like, because it’s their interpretation with their settings and their hardware.
riches – the grass is green most of the year.

The real track surface also plays with your eyes quite a bit. In real video, the track looks very black, but if you go there for real it appears much lighter (like the iRacing video). It’s very weird.

Ryan. The video of the real thing is what it looks like. Sims all gave you this “lighter” looking effect. Real life viewing from the cockpit has a grayish tone.
I drove this track for 12 years at 6 plus times a year, plus 2 test days a year.
Won 10 SCCA races there and had a track record for 2 years.
Worst part about the two videos is that the “real” driver sucks. He is missing the “apex” of a lot of the corners and doesn’t drift the car out to where he should be to run fast laps. He is a GOOD 10 to 15′ off the correct line going into 9
The guy ahead of him is pulled away in one lap
Overall NHIS (old name) is a crappy roadie. Going for the oval into 3 is hard on the suspension and going into 10 makes most cars bottom out HARD. There are not many places to pass unless you have a lot more power then the other guy.
PS: The “club” course is a lot more fun of a layout
And the track has changed every year since the beginning. They keep adding or widening the track a sections and this makes year to year track times hard to compare.
IMHO: I would have rather seen a better Lime Rock version or some other SCCA roadie done before this one

Thx for the reply Tim.
Well yes it depends on ppl, IMHO GTR 2 has the best FFB feeling, and thats how all Sims should feel like..
I’ll try iRacing someday for sure.
cheers.

GTR 2 feels like NFS comparing to iRacing

I was just about to write something similar! Driving a car in GTR 2 feels like piloting a hovercraft compared to iRacing.

Is that so? Wow that amazes me

OK, it was hyperbole. But the tactile “feel” of the car and track from the force feedback of iRacing is much better than that in GTR 2.

Big hyperbole ^^ I rly like the FFB in GTR2, but oh well it depends on ppls taste I guess.
Im tempted in trying iRacing, but I dont how to do a free first month, all I see is month payments :S

Tim already gave that “Radical”-link, go there and follow the instructions.
Rememberer that if you don’t continue your subscription after that one free month, you have to manually change your account/payment information. iRacing automatically renew your subscription to normal monthly payment account.

Thanks so much iRacing for doing NHIS(NHMS). I raced many years there with NER SCCA and always love hated that track. Very cool to be sim racing it.
Thanks and keep the tracks coming! I want to see Grattan.
