Some days ago, iRacing.com and NASCAR announced a new partnership that will result in an official NASCAR-sanctioned online racing league starting 2010.
Below is a video of the press conference, including iRacing’s Dave Kaemmer, NASCAR representatives Robin Pemberton & Blake Davidson as well as NASCAR superstar Dale Earnhardt jr.

Great find Montoya. As Jr said in the forums..it seems that Nascar is trying to fix some of the damage they have done by giving EA the Nascar rights for so long.

This is a great thing for all of sim racing. I actually just used the NASCAR Promo Code today. Three months for $25 is great. Plenty of time to work on my skills before diving into the COT and Nationwide cars.

This is what iRacing should be doing to increase it’s profile and subsribers; representing a highly validated spec racing series. This is a great start for now, because unfortunately to create a series like ALMS or Formula One etc. would be a huge/massive undertaking because of so much varied data and telemetry, not to mention the astronomical licensing for F1. Hopefully with this successful collaboration, even F1 (now that it’s really trying hard to appeal and connect with the general public on many fronts) will see this as viable and even necessary to increasing it’s appeal. So may this be just the first step to someday including other exciting forms of racing at the ‘upper echelon’ of motorsports. For many, and rightly so, NASCAR is a fine example of one of the top rungs of our beloved sport… motor racing. All the best to iRacing and the sim racing community!
p.s. my prediction? IndyCar in the near future, so stay tuned!

Oh yeah I fully expect an IndyCar series. Wouldn’t surprise me the least. They already have a few tracks to get it started on.

Wow, some great stuff in that video. By far the most exciting sim/real world racing partnership ever.
