iRacing.com – Marcos Ambrose at Pocono

Australian NASCAR driver Marcos Ambrose is racing a special iRacing.com paint scheme at Pocono this weekend, competing in the Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup race.

While the other 42 drivers of the NASCAR Sprint Cup field didn’t get much driving done due to several rain delays, Ambrose had plenty of time to practice virtually, using a special pre-release version of the Pocono Speedway.

Below are two videos, showing the Australian driver on SPEED TV, talking about his weekend and iRacing. Whether or not you like NASCAR or iRacing, high-profile media attention for sim racing is certainly something the whole community benefits from.

If anything, this one-race sponsorship deal shows John Henry’s commitment to iRacing. Henry is part-owner of Roush Fenway, so one might think he would just use one of his cars to showcase iRacing. But instead he pushes the dough to the team of Ambrose, who is an avid iRacer.

    Cool!

As much as I enjoyed iRacing for the first two weeks, his run today is almost like a metaphor…slow start, awesome looong run…then going to be taken out by a competitor.

Marcos has done a great job promoting the service, in particular many of us Aussies will be interested in iRacing now. All the rain delays were a blessing in disguise otherwise I don’t think we’d have seen it on TV here.

iRacing is so expensive – i don’t really get the advantages to rFactor, if there are any. looking at all the content i am using with rFactor, i would have to spend thousands of dollars for tracks and cars only – if all those goodies would be available in iRacing.

but i like how much real “sim racing” is on media right know because of all the commercial iRacing fuzz. i still dont’t get why i should pay a monthly fee plus 20$ per track and car and stuff while the (absolute fantastic) rFactor community delivers everything just for the fun of it.

my english is kind of rusted, sorry for that.
