iRacing.com – Car & Track Price List

The release of iRacing.com’s new simulation is nearing and there are still plenty of people with doubts on their concept. Despite getting to understand all their rules and licensing stuff, some of the biggest questions revolve around their pricing system.

iRacing.com is a monthly-subscription service but it won’t end with paying a monthly fee. The initial package only includes two cars and a handful of tracks. If you want to advance to higher classes, you have to buy additional content some day.

Below is a full pricelist for all tracks and cars. These prices are not set in stone though as there are rebates for buying multiple items. Those that want all content the game offers have to shed out quite some cash. A one-year subscription plan costs $159, all cars and tracks will cost you another $250+ if you take advantage of all rebates. For that rate, their simulation better be groundbreaking good…

Okay, now I see this, I won’t play it at all.
    1. Simracing is a hobby, not some professional stuff
    2. Where should a student get the money from?
    3. Of the same money I can buy 5 other games a year, even now the dollar isn’t worth anything anymore..
    4. Indeed, the game should be damn damn damn good to justify this price rate.
    5. Where do 99.9% of the people who actually want to pay this amount of money find the time to race? Maybe one or two times a week? Quite expensive then… $5 dollars per session..

No, this won’t be my sim at all.

  • ermax18

    Two times a week:
    $159/52/2=$1.52

“Gaiajohan, can you sell your body for sex ? If you sell yourself as a prostitute for 38 cents a pop, and then do that 4 times a week, than you can race iRacing. But dont cry too hard, it might upset that $700 graphics card sitting in your system.”

  • tifose

meclazine there is no 700 dolor video card on the market and even if there was i would of payed my 700 for something i don’t need to pay to play!!! good looking game but bad idea on this pricing

  • gazman

Meclazine must have a sore ass and must be due for a re sleeve then .

  • Anonymous

LOL. So for a decent “experience” it’s gonna cost almost 400 bucks or even more just the first year !?! , and then you don’t even ‘own’ it. that is about half the price of my entire pc, plus i can’t play without an constant internet connection. With the other sims, at least i can do some laps on my own when my internet is down (which happens regularely enough)

    No thanks.

  • Roadblock

This slowly becoming the scientology of racing sims. You keep having to shell out more cash as you go.

  • http://pbase.com/griffinr 2point8

I’ll leave the sodomy/prostitution talk to you guys, and just agree that I will have to pass on iracing.

  • RM

    which are the monthly fees?

  • JODI

…this price system will not have any chance. The consumers
are very sensitive about the costs of a product and it will fail. I promise.

    greetings from germany

  • phil23

I’m afraid i won’t be able to afford it either. I work nights so that my wife can work just to pay the bills and feed my babies. I love sim racing but i’m on a budget that doesn’t allow me to keep up with decent pc components let alone this much on a sim. What a shame, as this is potentially the sim we’ve all been craving for

  • ApeX

Who is gonna pay for this?!?!

  • RJC_pt

Can we get some sponcers to run there?
For that money i may as well go karting…

  • Gaiajohan

    @Meclazine
    Haha.. What’s your age man?
No, my system isn’t that up to date. Get your facts straight before ranting someone.

And no, it’s not $1.52 a week.. Don’t you want the full content? Do you only want to drive a boring Solstice and some old car on 6 different tracks with 13 lay-outs in total?

For €140 I spend the last four years on racing games I bought
GT Legends three years ago for €50, I’m still playing it.
GTR2 was €30 still playing it with some mods, and especially the power n glory mod.
    RBR was €5 in 2005
    race07 was €45

And one game, with no content, 6 tracks, 2 cars should be about the same price I got four games in four years, which I’m still playing?

Oh, about the graphics card, that one is an oldie.. The computer has been made in 2003. On the other hardware, wheel, cockpit etc. I paid maybe €130 in four years time.. Not that high imho..
So before ranting someone, get your facts straight, and don’t blame someone about something you might have terribly wrong.

    @RJC_pt
Indeed, and karting is even more the ‘real’ thing.

  • http://www.omr.com.au Meclazine

    Yeah,

I was just joking. When you put the first two comments together, it did look pretty funny.

But $700-$1000 card systems are available on the market, and I assume you cannot afford those either. As for paying for this game, it would want to be a whole lot better than the alternatives to shell out the kind of money they are expecting.

  • http://www.bodybuildinglife.be Stancke

    They may keep it.

  • stabiz

    No, thanks.

  • Gaiajohan

@meclazine, now I umderstand you :), it’s okay, I thought you meant it in a different manner.
I know about the graphics cards.
    HD3870X2 in crossfire for example..

And well, I’m saving for a new computer so I can play my racing sims on a normal detail.

I’m willing to pay about €600 for it, and hope to do as long with that pc, as with this one..
E8200, P35 chip on mobo which can do Crossfire, HD3870, 4GB internal memory and 1TB HDD space

  • Jim

After paying a monthly fee, I would not want to purchase seperate car packs or tracks, it will cost a fortune for what is just a ‘game’!

Also, being from the UK, where is some decent european content? I guess it’s going to be just for the American market then…

  • Frank Fothergill

iRacing are just a bunch of uppity deluded clowns in my opinion.
I really hope that this project fails miserably.

  • trebor901

Why has there got to be a subscription fee? i just find that pointless. They might aswell just release a version with all the free stuff for the people like me that cant afford all the cars and tracks plus the subscription fee.

  • Frank Fothergill

“They might as well just release a version with all the free stuff for the people like me that cant afford all the cars and tracks”

They dont want poor people like you and me, mate.
This product is for an exclusive little club of rich kids.

If you cant or wont pay, you are not welcome, its as simple as that!

  • trebor901

But for the price you pay for the years subscription plus all the extra content over say 3 years you could buy (all be it a cheap one) a real race car for that.

  • ermax18

    @Gaiajohan,

No I don’t want full content. I only like road racing so I would pass on the ovals unless they have a RC that is worth a crap. I also would pass on the oval cars. Also, how do you know the Solstice is boring? Have you driven the Solstice in iR? Slow doesn’t mean boring. Some of the funnest racing can be with slower evenly matched cars. Sure I would rather not have to pay a ton of money for each track but if the tracks are modeled 10 times better then the average rF track and the competition is good and easily accessible then I am all for paying to play. If it sucks, I will drop my sub. Also, the free market system will work this price issue out. If it doesn’t sell the prices will start to drop. I don’t want to write off iR on the price alone. I am going to give it a shot.

  • tifose

this game will be free!!! the first two weeks after it come’s out already know someone who crack there silly demo lol so no need to fight about the price it will all be free!

  • http://www.virtualr.net Montoya

Tifose, I hate to ruin your dreams but you cant “crack” an online-based game.

Since there is no offline mode or anything like it, you have to conncet to the iRacing.com servers. And that won’t work without a subscription.

So you either pay for it or don’t use it

  • tifose

then my friend how is it that i have a working demo? lol tell me something are you willing to believe this game cannot be crack?

  • Ken Campbell

JEEZ!! A lousy cup of coffee costs 3 bucks or more, gas prices are going through the roof. Look at the piddley worthless things you spend money on each week, and, maybe this ain’t all that bad! Give it a chance!

  • tifose

ken cambell you give it a chance for us and let me know what you think after playing it

  • Soup

Tifose, Seeing that you have a “working demo” how about a little review on the simulation? Please be detailed too!!

  • Ken Campbell

tifose, I thought you had a working demo?! Now you wouldn’t be fibbin’ would ya? HMMM!!!

  • tifose

GTR2 turns better what i mean is this the cars in iRacer drive well but the corner lil too quick just don’t feel write but then again this is a demo and tyres are allways slaipping when going around a turn making this crazy sound witch i like the car sound is just the best thing you can hear around i give it that i love the way your engine revs 9.5 the feel i give it 8.5 the way the game look 9.0 over all feel .8.5 price for game 1.0

  • Jiggaman

To much Money IMHO, looks impressive but paying all that money for a game you will not ever own? Honestly it is a bit of a slap in the face to the community who kept their old sims alive for so long with free mods.

    Iracing = New Labour

  • 55

tifose… So you think pirating software is OK? Not that anyone would believe you have a working copy of a subscription based simulation. Who are you going to race against? Pirating software is STEALING, plain and simple. Remember- What goes around, comes around.

  • Alien

    Tifose,What?????? Spelling first,racing next.

  • H.E. Pennypacker

Even though I’m a wealthy american industrialist   , I won’t pay for such a rip off. No game is worth that much. Ever.

  • 55

If they had left it at just the subscription payment(should be lower) they might have had a chance. But the addition of having to pay for individual tracks and cars, well, they just went too far. Sad, as this sim could have had the potential to shine. Nuff’ said.

  • Paul Kelly

This is a joke. Paying a monthly fee, plus additional fees for cars and tracks? And I thought microtransactions for console games were money sinks.

Other than laser-scanned tracks (whoopee) and organized leagues with stat tracking, what does iRacing offer that truly justifies this expense? Are the driving, physics and damage models that far superior to existing benchmark sims such as Grand Prix Legends and NASCAR Racing 2003 Season to justify this expense?

I’m highly skeptical. To me, this reeks of John Henry thinking, “We have Dave Kaemmer, and he’s a legend in sim racing, so people will pay anything to play his next game.”

Think again. I’ll pass and stick with rFactor, NR 2003 and Richard Burns Rally. You get a ton of fun and realism with those games for just the initial purchase price. And there are a ton of mods and organized leagues for those games that are FREE.

  • tifose

55 yes i am a very bad person for copying this game to my HDrive. and a very bad person for downloading MP3 and game ISO off the internet free i am so bad guess what i am the only person in the world that does this and your a good person for not trying this

  • 55

I wasn’t going to add any more comments, but, I just want to say that Paul Kelly has really hit the nail on the head. Must have been reading my mind!!

  • 55

tifose, sorry i offended you. I guess it is O.K. seeing as everyone does it. I mistakenly thought it was just you! This is reely cool now i can get bunches of stuff free insted of paying like an idiot. Thanx fer settin me straite.

  • http://www.f1simracer.com/ Roge Owen

I for one am looking forward to driving this sim :)
Hopefully it WILL be worth it, Im just dreading it being ALMOST worth it, as the uncertainty of each renewal of subscription will really hit home hard, or something.

  • Fester Fudgebone

Come back when you are out of school and have a paying job, kids. I am sure iRacing won’t miss whiners and high school freshmen.

Quite honestly I won’t miss any of the complainers and cheapskates, neither will iRacing.

The good stuff in life comes at a cost, so you deserve everything you are not paying for.

Freeloaders never amount to much anyway

  • Paul Kelly

    Paying job, Fester? I’m a 43-year-old white-collar professional.

There’s nothing gradual or evolutionary about this pricing model. Online sim racing’s only expense has consisted of the initial purchase price. The only other expense has been the purchase of dedicated servers, which aren’t necessary.

Meanwhile, iRacing strolls in and initiates a subscription-based model that also charges for cars and tracks, resulting in a possible expense of hundreds of dollars per year.

That wouldn’t be a problem if a more gradual precedent had been set. But sim racing is essentially going from free to expensive, with little justification for that expense from iRacing other than prettier graphics, organized leagues and stat tracking. I’ve read nothing that indicates the physics are a quantum leap over other Kaemmer sims, especially if your computer or peripheral hardware aren’t cutting edge.

I see rFactor and other “free” sims as the equivalent of playing a round of golf at a world-class public course. Sure, some guys will get their rocks off by paying twice the greens fees to play a world-class private course, much like they will to play iRacing and achieve some sort of BS “hardcore sim racer” cred, but is it really worth it?

    I have serious doubts.

  • http://www.erdniss.de.vu moatlspeed

LOL – when it comes to paying the people learn to speak
I got a site full of free content (55.495 downloads) and the feedback is almost zero – i must be doing something wrong

  • Roadblock

With the economy in the crapper right now I just don’t see iRacing’s economic structure working out for them.

  • stabiz

They are to busy racing around in your cars, moatlspeed.

  • Paul Kelly

I wonder how many subscribers iRacing is expecting or needs to attract to break even. I ask because I race rFactor at various times of the day and night, and I seldomly see more than 100 people around the world listed as competing on rFactor public or private servers at any given time.

iRacing seems to be attractive to an even smaller niche. Granted, since iRacing events are standardized and take place at set times with set classes, all subscribers will gather at once.

But how many subscribers do you think this game will attract out of the box? We’re all into PC sim racing, but this is very much a niche hobby as it is. And iRacing is “niching” it even further.

I’d be surprised if iRacing got 5,000 subscribers out of the box. Please correct me if I’m wrong and preorders have exceeded that total!

  • N0body Of The Goat

Very ambitious project in my opinion. The current pricing system really is trying so see who is desperate for the new “best thing since sliced bread” sim at any cost.

You have access to your purchased cars and tracks, as long as you are paid up with your subscription fees…

To play a demo, traditionally a free thing to whet your appetite, you have to pay… More than a standard monthly fee!

    Upto £25 (£13) for a single circuit with variations…

Who knows, maybe they will have enough takers at these steep prices to sustain the project and give them wages. Maybe they will all retire as multi-millionaires within a couple of years.

However, my hunch is that the current pricing scheme needs to at least half, in order for this project to thrive. Why limit your product to say 200 users at $200+, when you could have many more at a lower price, for not much more outgoings or effort?

  • ermax18

I am sure the laws of supply and demand will drive down the price. I am not going to sweat it.

  • Crazy Bored

I am worried about the people that do pay all that having very few to race against, especially at the start. It could work out fine I have no idea but it sure would suck if that’s what it turned into.

  • StreetStock

Don’t let the pricing of iRacing scare you. You DO NOT have to pay for all the tracks and cars upfront. But you can if you would like….

WHY? Well if you can remember how Gran Turismo was on the PSX. You could NOT race the faster cars or the faster tracks until you passed some timetrials and won some races, which therefore “unlocked” them, and which also earned you a higher ranked “drivers” license. Allowing you to compete with the faster series.

iRacing is very similiar to the old GT, you start out on the bottom and race your way up. Most of iR’s racing season championships lasts around 12 weeks long, with a different race each week, which does require you to run a set minimum number of races during the whole 12 weeks season. More races and TT’s are required, the higher your license class becomes.

So to make a long story short, the most you would have to buy is a new car every 12 weeks, that’s if you earned a higher license, allowing you to compete with them. And maybe 1 or 2 tracks for each new series you run.

So if you pay for a one year sub, you only pay $13/mth. Plus you get $60 in iRacing money as a bonus, which can be used to buy the new car/series required to compete in the next higher “racing level” or 2 and/or 1 or 2 faster tracks (which most have atleast 2 different configurations) every 12 weeks.

So the most I see myself spending would be the extra 7 dollars a month I saved and thus owning the new cars/tracks and all the new updates as they come about, with my skill level as the only thing stopping me from reaching the top!

Check out this link for iRacing’s FAQ that grows everyday.
    http://www.answers-script.com/iracing/index.php

  • R4z3rw33n

I personally, will not be shelling out monthly fees for this sim, when I am currently extremely happy with Rfactor.
Why start paying a monthly fee when I already have great leagues to race in, an endless supply of fantastic mods (With many more on the horizon), and a developer who only charges a one off fee to purchase the baseline software?

While Rfactor/LFS/GTL/GPL/GTR2/RBR are starting to age graphically, it isn’t as if they are in dire need of replacing. While a new, polished sim would be fantastic, I cannot see Iracing being that sim. How are they possibly going to compete against open platforms (e.g. Rfactor/LFS) that offer top quality cars/tracks (Which are often aided in development by professional teams), and the most important aspect yet, they are free.

Sim-racing is about the driving and community feel, and a community that has to pay copious amounts of funding to have a trackday together doesn’t seem to fit in with the idealogies that we all know so well in our current niches.

  • 55

Something I have not read here yet. iRacing states that once you purchase a car or track it is yours for good. What if their business fails? Also, 4 or 5 years down the road, the graphics engine that powers their sim now will be outdated. That means (if they are still in business)that they will have to program a new sim to keep up with technology. What becomes of your NOW outdated cars and tracks? Will they issue uses free upgrades? Or, will users have to dig in their pockets again! Everyone knows from experience that software even 3-4 years old or more just does not match up with current software! Before signing up I sure would want to know what their policy will be. Computers and technology advance so fast it is tough trying to stay caught up! If they plan on being in business for years, they must address this issue. :!: :?:

  • Frank Fothergill

You can buy their tracks and cars from them and you can use them for life – that is if you pay your subscription for life.

No subscription, no can use, no matter what you have previously paid!

This is just one of several reasons why I hope this “sim” fails.

  • F1Racer

Its like throwing money away really. For what they charge you don’t get that much more over what you can experience now with bought sims like rF and GTR2 etc.

Subscriptions AND paying for cars and tracks ? I think thats taking the p…
The idea is great, the concept is promising and they they go and ruin it with a pricing scheme that is clearly either aimed at the more financially fortunate or they want to weed out the ‘rabble’ that get online and do it just to spoil races or dont take it seriously enough.

After watching SRT’s video I was interested. It sounded cool. Then… I saw the prices and like someone says, what if they go out of business ? (Hardly likely unless they spend all our money on Ferrari’s and Lamborghini’s.)
But if they go down, what do you have to show for all you shelled out ? Zilch.

  • Anonymous

    LOL

Wow, ive never seen such a backlash. Who cares if you will not pay for the service????? You dont HAVE to!

But, the way most semi-intelligent people would think about this is, hmmm, maybe i will try it, and if i dont like it, then i dont have to pay anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is shaping up to be a whole new world for sim racers, give it a chance! Or dont, i dont really care!!!

  • StreetStock

Thats exactly right! You don’t have to pay, and I tell you what. Us beta testers just had to start paying, and I don’t mind it one bit.

For the $13 a month I am paying,(if you include the $60 bonus credit, its really only $8/mth), it’s well worth it.

By saying that iRacing might go under is ludicrous.
I don’t see Billionaire John Henry, owner of the Boston Red Sox and half owner of Roush Racing going broke anytime soon.

And those that do know him, also know that he is doing this for fun and not money, because he loves auto racing, no matter if it’s in the virtual world or the real one!

And if the world did stop spinning and iRacing’s died, at the very least, I’d have the memories and stories to tell about sim racing against some of the best real-life drivers in the world.

If you guys only knew who all races on iRacing…..

  • Mike

    *cough* dale jr…

  • R4z3rw33n

    @Mike: He’s a Nascar driver though.

Further to the point, iRacing is going to be severely constricted by licensing issues. Is the game able to be modified legally?
If not, the popular modding teams will continue to develop for Rfactor/GTR2/GTL etc, where their work is appreciated.

  • Steve

I was fortunate enough to get an early invite, and here is my take on it:

    Graphics: 6/10
Some of the new shadow effects are nice, but a lot of the textures looks dated, some even look like they were nicked directly from NR2003! The grass in particular.

    Physics: 9/10
Very good, but still not as groundbreaking as I expected it to be. I can tweak RACE 07 so it comes very close.

    Sound: 7/10
Not much to say here. Dissapointed with most of it. The Silver Crown is the only one that really has some growl to it.

    Gameplay: 6/10
ONLY online. They could have at least added a ghost car.

    Value for money: 1/10
I can play other sims that give me similar experience, but at a fraction of the price.

    Too. Bloody. Expensive.

This is supposed to be Racing Simulator, not a hole in my bank-account simulator.

    Final Verdict:
I’m cancelling my subscription at the end of the month.
If I were a new potential customer, I would at least wait 6 months to a full year, to see where they are haeding with this.
