You would think after paying for the game, then paying them again, and again, and again, they might be tempted to GIVE you something. Nope, you pay again.

It looks nice this Iracing, but i will have to think real well before i decide to buy myself a license.
I wouldnt mind buying a single license, but this is a monthly subscription, plus you pay per extra track.
I will not judge this game/sim, but for now i will not take part in this, the money issue puts me off (maybe in the future i will agree with it)

New subscribers don’t get it. Only people already subscribed that renew for another year get it. You end up with 85 free dollars after renewing.

They also have give 10%, 20% and 25% discounts. They are trying to make it more affordable to people but this content still cost’s alot of money to make and they still need to make money.
I think most people who I know who tried it for 1 month are now subscribed for a year.

July 5th, 2009 at 07:59
Then you’re full of crap, because you do pay again and again for games like:
Race 07 expansions
NFS “yet another revolutionary look of the package cover”
TOCA series / GRID whatever..
LFS “licenses”
EA NASCAR 2002-2009
Gran Turismo 1-5
Forza 1-3
rFactor
what is the difference between continuously buying something once, and Subscribe to something?
IRacing, saves you money, because you wont need all of those games anymore..

Uh, the difference is that when I feel like playing, say, NFS Most Wanted again, I don’t have to friggin pay for it again.

Well, I was NOT a sceptic. And I wanted to drive in iRacing really bad but I had to wait for the paypal option.
But I’ve found it annoying to NOT be able to drive whatever cars you want.
Though the quality of the content in excellent I think it’s too expensive quantity-wise. Regular games offer more cars and more tracks at first purchase which you can play whenever you want and not have to pay to keep playing them.
Though the physics feel awesome I miss a good gearbox model really bad. Shifting gears in a Late Model with a flappy paddle gearbox is NOT cool.
Though the racing is clean, It’s really gay how everyone is avoiding touching eachother.
And if I pay $156 to play a sim for a year You must be trippin’ not to give me ALL the content.
LFS FTW?

July 5th, 2009 at 17:35
I thought all these childish debates were cleared up and over with?
If you think iRacing is too expensive then fine: don’t subscribe. The price keeps the non-serious kids out and the mature adults in. I’m happy that a lot of people don’t want to pay for it. The reason they don’t want to pay for it is the exact reason I and tons of others don’t want them on the servers.
So rant on, little ones. I assure you none of your immature bantering will dissuade any of us from using the service. Anyone with real passion for racing only has to try it once before their credit card flies out so fast their pocket lights on fire.

July 5th, 2009 at 20:13
Well, if you read thouroughly you’d have read that I mentioned I was enthousiastic about the idea before I tried it. So that’s why I bothered, you douche.
I thought the lack of initial content and the cost would be compensated by the quality of the product.
Let’s face it, you wouldn’t pay $156 a year to play Netkar either.
By the way, why did YOU subscribe? So you could LOVE it and pay for it? If so, you’re an idiot.
I subscribed to try it and then decide if I like it or not. I liked it. But it’s not worth the continuous cost to me.
\
Dayum… that’s some extremely subjective logic you’re using there. lol

July 5th, 2009 at 21:54
Cool, what content would you want in IRacing?
O11
July 5th, 2009 at 22:57
Let me put that in clearer words: The content isn’t available from the start. The content itself looks and feels great.
Six cars an six (road) tracks would be nice.
I’ve read on forums of people who hated iRacing because they didn’t like the feel of the Solstice. But I’m sure they would love the feel of the more advanced cars because the physics and FFB are really good in iRacing. You HAVE to drive some of the cars you don’t like to get to race a car you do like.
In MMO terms that’s called a GRIND. And I won’t pay for a grind.
I’d probably prefer if you could pay for the content once and could drive it anytime offline without cost. And if you want to race online you’d get a subscription.
I’ll probable be called a n00b for not wanting to grind my way to a goal. But whatever iRacing says, or however serious simracers take themselves, no matter how great the skill involved: It is still a game. People do it for fun, not because it’s some kind of uncontrollable spiritual desire. (At least I hope not, that would be weird.)

what i really WONDER is it WORTH that money ?!?!?!?!
because if i had that money i would rahter spend to real racing than this crappy game , and when i say crappy i mean crappy, why ?
because this game is like ARCA Simracing if i were Dale Earnhardt Junior i would propobly like this game but IAMNOT and i will never be .
the game graphics poor like HELL rfactor 2 beats it 4 times ahead
Nascar racing WTF anyone even race those stupid ovals with cars which can turn only LEFT ?!?!
summary : ITS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY
>license ( monthly ) +
>one car per month not worth any money THEY SHOULD BE FREE if there is a monthly payment
>tracks one per month SHOULD BE FREE if ……. payment
after few years of this stupid virtual adventure which really sucks in every single aspect graphics , cars , tracks you will find that you could buy a nice car for fun so this is really STEALLING FOR ME
yes its STEALLING
only for hardcore gamers or guys which earns 00,000 per month but i ask again
IS IT F WORTH ?!?!?!?! – FOR ME NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT

for that money iRacing wants for their game they offer nothing they have made modding a way to earn money
i can make for them tracks and cars if they will give me the money which people pay for that models and tracks !!
this is a fortune when you see their accounts
this politics really not makes sense if the game would be good like rfactor they would earn a lot of money in normal way
but this game really sucks for me like i said graphics ugly ,tracks i see better in rfactor and i would propobly make better by myself, cars ridiculous …
for modding they want fee ’s
but what i would really want to know if the game is worth even those money which is way to high
THIS IS POLITICS nothing more or less
i see 2 ways :
1. they want to keep noobs out of their game
2. they want to earn money for modding
my opinion :
if this game was really good they could earn money like ISI, but they have made from their game a luxury which makes that every one want to try this because when something is out of your reach for ELITES everyone thinks its the best …..
but for me laser scanned tracks are useless unless you are a real driver and i am not , so this game is for real drivers right ?
because no other standard player cant afford it , like me
politics are stupid .

July 6th, 2009 at 19:29
Maxs,
I think you completely underestimate the costs of content-creation.
iRacing aren’t modders that work from home in their free time. They have to aquire licenses (costs money), do their laser-scanning and on-site works (even more money) and finish the tracks.
If I remember correctly, creating a single track costs them like a pretty high five-figure sum. They have around 14.000 members so you can do the math how often they have to sell one single track just to get their costs back in.
Plus, why does the pricing keep out the “noobs”? Are skilled sim racers automaticly rich? Just because you have lots of disposable income doesn’t mean you´re a good sim racer or vice versa.

you either have NOT tried IRacing or your computer is not able to run the thing.
I’ve just gone back to GTR Evo to make a few laps on Zandvoort and it made me laugh that only 3 month ago I was overwhelmed by this game, now it just don’t feels right… appart from the fantastic sound of the vette!
Man, wake up this is not a conspiracy, why do you think that you need to pay monthly for your phone, internet, tv, electricity, etc?
a dedicated server would cost you more than 300$ a month just to have it in a datacenter,
bandwidth costs probably more 100$ pr 1TB
then you’ll need to pay a guy to be there is something is wrong.
not to mention all the software licenses.
and they got (IBM WebSphere I think it is) server farms in US and AUS to please over 10.000 active members. maybe this would tell you some about the seriousness.
after 3 month I’m yet to be disconnected from the server and experience unplanned downtime on their website.
this is not some kids playing with notepad, and “trial/student” version of 3D max, while using their dad’s PC as game server.
And sure they want to make money, thats should be the nr. 1 goal of any business.
and if you got all the way to here, thanks for taking the time and reading the whole comment
