Mengele:

You didn't burst my bubble. I guess you didn't detect my sarcasm after the word "SIMULATOR" when I put the rolling eyes symbol -- -- after that sentence.

I believe in iRacing as a true simulator about as much as I believe that I'll fly with just my arms as wings during my lifetime. :)

If iRacing fails all Kaemmer needs to do is release it with AI, a career mode for the public.

iRacing could still probably get away with charging for "exclusive servers" and some exclusive content for the hardcore elitist drivers so maybe Kaemmer and iRacing may have to come and meet the rest of the racing communty half way for his brainchild to be a financial success.

Nobody but iRacing know what their future financial aims and target audience are but after reading various forums about iRacing, it does seem that there is no middle ground with it.
You are either a racing nut who has hours to spend driving a presently poor selection of cars and tracks or there is not enough content and not enough racing action with the sim to justify spending the lot of money that iRacing costs.

It will be interesting to see how this unfolds.

"it’s a SIMULATOR. "

Sorry to burst your bubble but it doesn't have yellow flags, pit stops , getting whiplash or broken legs after a 200mph crash, so its a game.
Its a game with a different concept of progression through the ranks than other games and a very expensive one at that!

Wow, that's interesting information, Simon. While I'm not keen on the iRacing concept at all and don't plan on joining, I hope Dave Kaemmer doesn't disappear from the PC sim racing scene if iRacing fails.

No idea, I'm a subscriber & I'm signed up until the end of July 09 so I'll be getting this bonus credit.
All I can say is that iRacing needs to get more people in, I'm sure the situation is better than it was than with just the beta testers but people are afraid to move away from the Solstice or Legends (or can't afford too).
People are dropping out, out of 5 others I know 3 aren't likely to extend their 1 month subscription because of the missing basic features. Making a 50% drop out rate. So the races are getting emptier.
5 days ago in the evening I could see 150 people for a session, it's now about 80-90.

With that bonus credit, I'm two-thirds of the way to getting ONE new track. Color me impressed.

But remember, this isn't a video game even though it's played with existing controller hardware on existing PC hardware -- it's a SIMULATOR.

So is iRacing not getting the subscriber base it expected?

iRacing have had fewer "sales" than hoped for out of initial group of invitees.
Also over 600 email invites bounced from the first group of invites.
