iRacing Watkins Glen - Reality Check

The recently released Watkins Glen road course for iRacing’s online simulation has stired up a lot of discussions, mainly because of it’s price.

Is a single track really worth $25? Decide for yourself after watching talengtp’s comparison video below, showing a lap around the New York based track both in real life and in iRacing.

“Is a single track really worth $25?”

Said it once, and I’ll say it again - I’d pay $25 for VLM Mid Ohio, or VLM Le Mans.

Yeah GreaArg, have to say, that screenshot is pointless. Both the mirror and sidepod are distorted by the fish eye camera lense, mounted in a differently positioned camera to the game. The car is correct. The tyres are the only valid point made there, which Six already said.

Am I wrong in thinking that there is still no demo available?
Testimonials mean jack all to most people. To have no demo available, in an age of rFactor and community modding, seems to me to be displaying a very poor attitude towards potential customers.

I assume the left video uses the tyres that were used by the Star Mazda cars in 2008… :)

    And 2005 - 2007 Tim :)

Tyres have a curve over the top. None of the iRacing ones do, and Papyrus ones never did.

    That’s exactly what I mean, check 2009.

The only pics I can find that claim to be 2009 have the curved tread too. http://www.rfmsports.com/ToyotaAtlantics/News/StarMazda.jpg

Unless there is some photos hidden away from the GoogleBots that I can’t find. Do you have any images Tim?

They changed tires in 2008. I think he meant the cars had the old one (2007 and prior).

idlejimbo. there is a Demo out!!! it can’t play online but it’s free

To clarify Tifose’s post, there is no official free demo of the sim out there, just an illegal, badly outdated torrent with no online capability and obsolete physics for several of the cars (version 1.2.0.0 versus the latest official build 1.4.0.0).
