iRacing.com – Ford Mustang & GT Coming

iRacing has announced a new agreement with Ford that will enrich the online racing simulation’s lineup of cars with several new cars. The first two cars to be announced are the Ford Mustang FR500s as well as the Ford GT-R.

Powered by a 4.6l V8-engine putting out 325hp, the Ford Mustang FR500S is an assembly-line produced racing vehicle that is eligible in various series aimed at privateer drivers, including the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge for the Miller Cup which is sanctioned by the Grand American Road Racing Association.

Built by Doran Racing, the Ford GT-R is a little more professional race car, running in the American Le Mans Series GT2 class where it faces notable competition from Ferrari, BMW, Porsche and Panoz.

With the Riley Daytona Prototype already being available and the Corvette C6.R in the making, these new Ford race cars answer the call of many iRacing followers and critics for more road racing content.

are we getting these cars in the next few weeks after this season is over?

Most likely not. They have plenty of unfinished stuff already in the pipeline.

  • Gabkicks

maybe these cars have been under work for a long time and everyone’s been kept hush hush about it? :P

  • xilix

Well, they certainly know how to get an enthusiasts attention. It’s gonna be REALLY hard for me to not purchase a few months once the C6R, Mustang and GT-R are available. It’s so expensive though, damn. It’s hard for me to put forth that much money for something I’ll never own.

  • Dave

Awesome! These cars should be a great addition.

Commence the whining from the Euro’s on the lack of european cars.

Not all of us Euros want European cars. Corvette, Mustang and Ford GT is a beautiful set of cars. :D

My thought exactly, I LOVE those cars, but its a looot of money. Well, still some time to think about it :)

Great to hear that there will be new road racing content soon!
What I wonder is in what classes they will race? Will there be races with different cars such as C6R, Mustang and GT in one race?

No matter what the answer is.. I will renew my subscription, right now it is still suspended. But you gotta love the new road racing options

And… they might be american, but we see them on the eurotracks all over the place. Think FIA GT4 – GT3 – GT1.
I wonder what class they are going to put them in. I will own a B licence next week. For the rookies it might be fun to see the Mustang atleast in the D or roockie class.

  • drowsy

Ford GT. With proper physics. SOLD! I’ll get the Mustang too, although I expect that I probably won’t like it too much. Then again, it’s iRacing and I’ve yet to drive a car I didn’t enjoy, so we’ll see. :)

I’m a little worried that the series’ might be getting spread out a little too thin with a bunch of cars coming up, but hopefully that doesn’t become a problem. It seems like the subscription numbers are going up all the time so that should help too.

  • Cheekychops

Do they do lifetime subscriptions ?.
It was already brilliant, but with a lotus on the way and now the Ford GT-R……..

Share similar concerns to drowsy about it getting a bit thin, but probably no need to worry about it.

I don’t really see how that is a concern with iRacing more than anything else. Most software EULAs clearly state that you are not the owner of the software, no matter what the cost.

You can extend your subscription multiple times.

The development cycle is usually about 2 cars every 3 months. There is a significant couple of announcements coming which will increase membership greatly and help with dilution issues.

That has pretty much killed iRacing for me personally. I don’t have masses of cash to splash around and the one series i did buy into no one is racing.

I went into a race last week. 3 people myself included….. one dropped out in prerace the other after two laps.

A decent amount of money poured down the drain

  • Raikku

    When we get C6R?

That came in my mind while i was driving Team Players’s new rF-C6R on last weekend.

You can’t generalize based on one race. Some of the series are less popular than others, and there is significant variation in the level of activity depending on the time of day.

I would have dropped out too, with 4 people, that was not an official race.

He is also in Australia, I believe, which is a targetted area for us right now. If he can be patient, he should only have to wait a couple of months for significant improvement.

4 new Fords? I seen 2 in the announcement. Can anyone shed any light on this?

The announcement says “a series” and tells of two of them. :)

I am fascinated by the people that are actually falling for this business model. It’s one thing to charge a monthly fee like World of Warcraft and chuck expansions out every year or so, but iRacing from everything I’ve seen is an endless money pit! Kaemmer is the reincarnation of PT Barnum, I swear to god!

I need to come up with an idea as clearly the sim community is full of gullible people just waiting to be relieved of their money.

  • http://arseforums.com/phpBB/ r8response

Two new series you say Tim?

Thats just what this game needs…….., as if the entire iRacing community isn’t already spread thin enough as it is.

Oh, and further to earlier comments. Aussie or not, i payed a hansom some of money for this sim (well done exchange rates…), and gotten even less out of it.

Suffice to say, i will not be resubscribing. Not that it matters, as iRacing surely has more than enough people.
So, instead i’ll stick to my weekly monday night LFS races. Where i can trade a bit of paint with at least 20+ other people without fail

I dont normally rise to these comments, but its seems that everytime i see your name, you are slagging off iracing. Find something you ‘do’ like and say something positive for a change. (forgive me if thats not the case).

Ive spent shed loads of money on games, consoles and PC’s searching for the ‘perfect’ sim over the last 25 years. Also dabbled with Karting for a bit, but there is always someone (in my case a lot) with more money and better equipment. I bought a Yamaha R1 which I did the odd track day with but had to be sold for a deposit on a house a few years back.

Iracing is the closest I’ve got so far to getting the ‘real’ sensation I have been craving for without spending 1000’s on doing it for real (which I cant afford). The money element is all relative. £8000 for a motorbike + insurance, tax, tyres, fuel etc etc…….or £3000 which gets you a good computer, a G25, Playseat and iracing. (and you can do it for less or more…but still be competitive either way).

On a positive, it helps my Mum sleep at night, and the wife doesnt complain too much apart from the hours I spend on it.

So….gullable ???. In your eyes maybe, but I’m enjoying myself, so that’s all that matters.

The lifetime subscription comment was a little tongue in cheek. However, so long as Uncle Chuckle doesnt come up with a better idea, I’ll be coming back for more over the next few years I hope.

    dot, dot, dot…

No, that’s not what I said. Try again. “a series of cars” does not equal a “series” which you’ve expanded upon with your assumptions.

You seem to like to be aggressive towards me without provocation from me. You even attacked me at the Australian forum which I helped to found and am personal (offline) friends with the owner and many of the visitors, simply because I answered somebody’s question. I’m sure there’s a reason and I’m sure I must have personally injured you in some way… I’ll figure it out eventually, I’m sure. It can’t really be purely because of who I work for, because that wouldn’t be fair.

Like I hinted at above, there’s some major announcements coming for the Aussies and I’ve known about them for a long time, which is why I try to HELP you guys on that forum. John Henry mentioned in the chat last night one of the additions: An Aussie server farm. Now why would we create one of those, do you think? Not to give Aussies exactly what they need and have been asking for, for at least the 11 years I have been around, surely?

You’re being very unfair to me personally and if you really think that’s justified, you obviously are unable to take a hint from all those on the Aussie forum who leapt to my (not iRacing’s) defense, or unable seemingly to act civil towards someone who has been nothing but civil to you.

Sometimes I respond to those anyway, because someone else might not know you can do it, but may have wanted to. ;)

Im sorry tim, where exactly in all of my comments on this topic have i been agressive?

I shall say no more on this matter. If you wish to flesh out this “problem” between the two of us. You know where to PM me
