iRacing.com – Zolder Now Available

iRacing.com has added Zolder to their selection of tracks, adding another famous European racing venue to their simulation.

The track is now available for iRacing subscribers to buy, selling for $14.95. Below is a video of the new track in action courtesy of spoonbe, showing two complete laps both from external and internal view.

Opened in 1963, Zolder hosted ten editions of the Belgian Grand Prix among several other high-profile sports car & touring car series. Today, the track hosts both international events and Belgian series, the track also has its own 24 Hours race.

Not buying, enough, with renewal unlikely no more buying for me.

The warm colors caused by the low sun really do this track justice. Looks like another track to add to the collection!

Zolder was never a favorite of mine, however credit to iRacing, it looks spot on. A perfect recreation of a rather dull track.

But all races will be the same static environment.
    For now it looks good.

I think in the long run it will start to bore, that every race will have the same settings. For longer races it will even be ridiculous.
The track in real life will only look like this for about half an hour.
    Than the sun goes down.

In my opinion the static environment makes almost no difference to me, The focus should be on the racing right? the static environment helps to keep the performance great on any machine, plus with textures that detailed it more than makes up for it!

can’t believe you said that lol, always been one of my favourite tracks in any sim, its got a great mix of corners and elavation changes, can you put your finger on what you don’t like about it? whats your favourite tracks?

The 1980′s layout was superb. The current layout has too many slow corners to be of interest.
I am aware the track was changed after the death of Gilles, however like many tracks that got altered (Imola) they are never the same.
My favorite track was the old Osterriechring, now sadly no more. Another track destroyed in the name of F1. Add to that list Mt Fuji, and almost Donington Park.

From your avatar I would think that you’re living in Brazil :)

    Imola was a death trap.

  • Kendra Jacobs

Look theres a new track. Everyone pay $15 dollars now. WOW unbelievable. Some entire games cost $15 dollars. lol Most games cost 30-60, this is $15 for a single track. Not a game, not any cars, not any other tracks, just give us $15 now your allowed to play on one more track. What are iRacing thinking!

Looks like a nice track they should replace the tree models as its a shame to let-down the fantastic work with such awful trees.

  • http://twitter.com/luke_wj Luke Ridgway

    What are iRacing thinking?

They are thinking that their members are willing to pay $15 for a really high quality digital representation of Zolder.

You may not be willing to pay money for this, and that is fine. We are all entitled to make out own decisions. But there are many of us that are, so please dont try and speak for the people that don’t share your opinion.

Not as expensive as it seems. If you wait for offers, earn idollars racing and buy in packs…. I have spent less money in Iracing that my brother in Call of Duty and I have all the tracks and cars I want.

But this is about Zolder, which is in Belgium.

So what does that make the Nordschliefe?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Diego-Colafabio/644649048 Diego Colafabio

The old imola was fantastic. I like a lot the actual version but..the old one was magic. Same for Monza.

All three of which are available in iRacing :)

  • Anonymous

They just had a modder port one of their tracks illegally and iRacing mentioned the track cost over $100k to produce. That’s at least $3/member, including the oval guys who probably aren’t buying Zolder.

  • Anonymous

I did in the past and will again. Brazil is the country of my heart but I was born in rainy Belgium…

Aren’t we all citizens of the world after all ?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Stuart-Whitehead/648757787 Stuart Whitehead

I’ve already spent more hours driving Zolder in the last two days than I would have completing most $15 games. Where am I getting the most value for money? oh yeah…..

  • http://twitter.com/kr1nz kr1nz

    Sure, just saying.

  • Anonymous

Don’t see why it would be any worse than the static mid-day sun?

I’m really glad they started moving away from every track having bright midday sun, particularly on the short ovals where the real world races are Friday/Saturday evening between about 6PM and midnight. Having a 2PM sun didn’t make sense like a setting sun does.

  • Anonymous

I have seen many tracks in real life. Zolder is a big favorite for many race fans .. and also my own personal nr.1 But then again, its a matter of preference.

  • Anonymous

I would have paid 30 or 40 if they asked. Its worth allot to me.

  • Anonymous

they know about it …. :-)

Isnt it great living 10 minutes away from Zolder, and 1 hour and 10 minutes from Spa … Lucky us. Small country’s are great ;)

What’s wrong with the trees? I’ve always thought they do pretty well even with the need to balance with graphics performance. You can pick out individual trees and each one looks different. I mean, without doing DX11 tricks with semi-translucent individual leaves, I’m not sure how they can get better. Who in your opinion should iRacing look to in the racing genre for state-of-the-art trees?

I also think this video shows them off better.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7_STE31Y0E

When I think bad trees, I think Forza. They just don’t match the actual track, look for landmark trees and they’re often missing.

IMO, the video in the link doesn’t to the track justice. This one seems higher quality.

This would be an amazing track if you drove it in this simulator setup:

  • Marco

    Where are you from again?

  • Marco

Well, the choice of right before sunset as the time of day is a very good choice to make the track look great, and it does indeed look stunning and very pretty. But racing there feels very artificial. Yes, you get caught up in the race and all, but sunset especially is a time of day that doesn;t last long. 10am may be boring, but you can race at that time and really not notice too much the sun until 2pm or so. So even in a longer race, it wouldn;t see unrealistic.

If and when they introduce time passage, then it will be more appropriate but now it feels fake after the first “pretty” impression.

Not that it would prevent me from racing there, it’s still a great track.

it not only looks spot on, IT IS spot on :D

  • Richard Hessels

Because 90% of all road races take place between 10am and 5pm. Only once a year they host a 24 hour race at Zolder.
In Europe there a strict regulations for sound pollution.
So till the dynamic weather is implemented every race takes place just before the sun goes down. That’s just strange.
No matter how beautiful it looks.

  • Richard Hessels

You probably just live next door.

  • Anonymous

    about 10 minutes away.

  • Anonymous

Well, if 90% take place during daytime, then it’s still proportional. At least 90% of the iRacing road tracks have lighting between 10am and 5pm ;)

It’s just one track, it isn’t like every track has uncommon lighting.

  • Anonymous

The placing and hight of them is fantastic , what i mean is just the raw tree model ( as they are so obviously intersecting planes) Obviously you have to be cerful to not use up resource budget.

They need some sort of “speed tree” / semi procedural tree algarithum that can dynamically scale the tree detail and at the same time produce better quality trees.

  • Anonymous

So, who in your opinion does better trees in the racing genre? Is there a method to both improve quality and maintain accuracy?
