iRacing.com – Spa Francorchamps Announced

iRacing.com has just announced the newest addition to the lineup of tracks in their online racing simulation as Spa Francorchamps will be available to iRacing subscribers in the rather near future.

The announcement answers the prayers of many sim racers as Spa is considered to be one of the finest race tracks in the world. Scanning work at Spa and Zolder will be starting in a few weeks, no specific release time has been given so far.

Opened in 1922, Spa Francorchamps is located in the Belgian Ardennes and has been hosting Formula One races, sports car races and other high-profile motorsport events ever since. Up until 1978, the circuit was made up of mostly public roads, creating a high-speed 14.1 kilometer layout. The modern version of the track opened in 1979 and has remained largely unchanged despite some recent modifications at the start/finish area and the bus stop chicane.

Even though the current 7 kilometer circuit isn’t as spectacular as the old layout, key elements such as the La Source hairpin and the famous Eau Rouge corner have been retained, making Spa a favorite of both the fans and many drivers.

This is gonna be good. :happyevil:

  • ZombieJim

    Now THIS is big news.

  • simracer64

“Scanning work at Spa and Zolder will be starting in a few years”

    is that correct?

  • Cenotaph

this is the best news regarding iracing i ever had.

Williams FW31 at Spa, who needs anything else? what a dream.

simracer64: “Scanning work at Spa and Zolder will be starting in a few years”is that correct?

Of course not, it’s weeks

  • Cenotaph

Yes, according to their facebook page, scanning will be done this summer. Can’t wait :D

orubasarot: The content keeps getting better, but the community aspect is pretty rough if you’re not all about NASCAR and high fives. It took them less than 12 hours to put me back on probation from their boards with no explanation, I’m guessing it was the Palestine skin I posted in the Showroom.Just because I’m not all about Budweiser and the Nebraska Corndogs winning the Superbowl doesn’t mean I’m antagonizing anyone.

Personally I hope they ban you. Your stupid Palestinian Hamas car was a joke. Keep your politics, religion and sexual perversions out of racing moron.

As too Spa, thats fantastic news.

Its getting harder and harder to resist getting into iRacing again. As soon as they halve the cost of the subscriptions I’m in. $100 per year for 3 slow cars and 8 tracks is ridiculous.

  • Zenitchik

orubasarot: And posting about your church choir and all the Supports Our Troops shit SHOULDN’T be kept out of racing? If you want to have an international user base you can’t maintain those hillbilly sensibilities.

But provoking the people to make your point is ridiculous. Just write to the staff that you feel offended by the “support the troops” and they will do something about it.

People are not going to iRacing to discuss politics, religion, war or whatever.

  • orubasarot

  • Raikku

Americans still quite often say something(maybe not always directly) about “support our actions/war heroes” or similar bs. Better keep in mind that majority of worlds population doesn’t support US politics. At least we doesn’t here in Europe.

About Spa, I fear that my SR will drop if I dare to really race there…

  • Firestarter

Europeans support the US, it`s only a minority of socialists that think they represent the majority that think otherwise.

Now, Spa is an amazing track and this might make me subscribe to iRacing.

  • stabiz

    Okay, this is huge!

  • Jack B

    orubasarot:
…BOTH are responsible for civilian casualties and are fundamentally identical.

Huh? Both are fundamenatlly identical. If having any civilian casualties makes two armies fundamentally identical then every army in history is fundamentatlly identical, because all have caused at least “one” civilian casualty.

That’s a very naive method of comparing two armies or anything for that matter.

Might as well say Danica Patrick is fundamentally identical to Michael Schumacher, because they both have won a race.

Or all countries are fundamentally identical in their human rights violations, because every country in the world has had at least one violation….

If you can’t see the difference between Hamas and the US Army, then look harder. Neither is squeaky clean, but they aren’t “fundamentally” identical either.

Oh, and back to the Spa announcement. Fantastic. It’s in my top 3 tracks in the world. Very nice! Should go well with a lot of cars, especially the F1 Williams.

Wow, someone actually managed to ruin a thread about Spa.

Great news! i think iracing will be more and more attractive to the euro market in the near future

apparently hijacking every thread about iracing here at virtualr does.

  • DKR Speedline

Great News. iRacing is becoming more and more attractive!
Hope that there will follow some more European Cars!

  • http://www.syncro-racing.com Damo

Just when I think i’m safe for a few more months without subscribing againg to iRacing, they go and do this.

A laser-scanned Spa is going to be one of the best things to hit the sim world, and let’s not forget Oulton is on the way too! :D

  • Com8

i will subscribe as soon as nordschleife is announced!

News flash: We. Don’t. Care. About. Your. Agenda. Really, we don’t. Maybe you can book a date at the UN General Assembly to state your case to the world, but stop polluting a sim racing board with your pointless drivel.

GREAT news about Spa! iRacing just keeps pouring on amazing content. It’s the best value in sim racing, considering all the new content and continual development of existing features.

  • Pabig93

I hope someone will convert the track to rFactor, will be a blast with FSONE 2009

    I don’t know what I could say to this… Oh yes ! Nothing !

Spa in iRacing will be so great, I can’t wait !

  • http://www.bsimracing.com BSR-WiX

i am amazed. because i live between Zolder and Spa , those are my two places of worship. i spend allot of my weekends on either one of those tracks. Hearing that they now will be both in iRacing, just makes my day… it might even make my year :-)

  • BenUK

Its only a shame that they are doing this now, and not say 10 years ago before they started to ruin Spa with run offs.

  • dj0100

    Best sim and best track.

    Worst thread.

I am off to the umbrella thread, which is the best ever.

  • the_last_name_left

HAMAS are Nazi-inspired anti-semitic terrorists. Yeah – we all want that stuff available, right? Sheesh. How about a Hitler car, or a Holocaust denial one? Great stuff, I’m sure.

Hamas wants to liberate Palestine with violence.
The U.S. flag would have to have only a single star, is the only country that thrives on war and that justifies anything to be at war.
    That is the difference

Can’t say that I can agree with that, for me value is a one off payment of £25 and getting years of use and hundreds of tracks and mods to choose from, renting a game that you can’t even play offline on your own if you stop your sub is not.
I have tried iRacing a few times but it just doesn’t tick all the boxes for me and I end up just letting the subscription lapse, then they offer another deal and I think “lets try it again, maybe it’s me” and the cycle repeats.
I would love to have laser scanned tracks in other sims, especially Spa, and I’m sure eventually that will happen, but I can live without them for now.
All of this is just my personal opinion and if iRacing does it for you then I’m happy for you, the tracks are certainly the benchmark in sim racing.

  • felipe

NOW were are talking! Bring me now the one track to rule them all Monaco

this is pathetic Bush is an assassin just like any other dictator! 9/11 was a fraud just like the moon bullshit and an innocent man was blamed for that! we live in a world of strenght where the strongest is the winner and for now that is the US of America!

  • stabiz

    LOL

  • simracer15

Ah, and virtualR.net hits a new low with letting this go on.

The world is filled with fucktards, and they all happen to be sim racers.

  • Art-J

I never thought I would witness a day when a sim track release thread is infested with 9/11-is-a-lie and they-didn’t-make-it-to-the-Moon “revelations”. I’m a Euro guy and I don’t agree with US guys on maaaaanny topics, but this bullshit is beyond any reasonable proportions. Epic facepalm  . Are there really NO other boards and blogs “dedicated” to these “issues”?

Montoya, you definitely need to introduce at least some minimal form of “civil behaviour control” over here!

  • ForzaBarca88

If one car is sponsored by the American Army, it is normal to have this car in the game.

Some years ago in DTM there was a Playboy car with a bunny.

Now Spa laserscanned, now i want to see that.

  • http://www.bsimracing.com BSR-WiX

I would think the comments level of some people could not sink any lower, but it seems i was wrong. How pathetic do you have to be to bring up religion or politically based comments in a simracing blog ? Get a life people, or purchase a rope.
I can understand,we all have different views on certain matters, but commenting just for the sake of starting a riot is about the lamest thing you can do. As for the WW2 comments… Common people…

Lets get back to simracing please.

Disclaimer: there is no PM feature, so I must post this publicly.

I don’t know if sim racing boards are the place to discuss some of the topics you covered in this thread, but I think you’re hilarious. If there are other general-purpose/political sites you visit, be so kind as to link me to them, for my bookmark list could use some expansion.

  • svizzy

yeah looking forward to the release. but please suzuka first. btw are they gonna re-scan daytona? the oval get’s a new asphalt after 32 years.

  • http://www.f1elites.com Crazy Bored

Thanks for the entertaining thread guy, now I’ve got a few less minutes to wait for Spa to come out!

    Awesome, just awesome.

  • Firestarter

    LOL Internet.

  • spliff

wow, SPA! this is gonna be fun. the safety ratings will drop with this one, hehe..

now iRacing just needs to add a 911 (no, this has nothing to do with 9/11) or similar porsches to their service. and some old cars, too! like a ’65 stingray! oh man… :-D

  • Pahkasika

“Spa Francorchamps will be available to iRacing subscribers in the rather near future.”
“Scanning work at Spa and Zolder will be starting in a few weeks, no specific release time has been given so far.”

So the near future is about 2-3 years from now? How long did it take to release Mid-Ohio? Or Long Beach

Good news, might even sub to i in a few years time when they have more proper tracks.

  • navalhawkeye

It didn’t take them that long to release Mid-Ohio from the time they scanned it. A few months at most. Long Beach has not been released because they would likely have to raise the minimum system requirements which they are not willing to do right now. They have also said it takes many times longer to produce. So they could release 2 or 3 tracks in the time t would take to make Long Beach. I think they are working on it off and on, but it probably won’t be released for a good while.

I wouldn’t be surprised it Spa was released in November with the Williams. Similar to what they did with the V8 and Phillip Island.

  • stabiz

Spa will be released in 2011, according to iracing.com.

  • Ace Racer

As much as I’d like to see Spa released in November with the FW31, it’s just not going to happen… I’d say it’ll be released sometime in February at the earliest. From the sounds of it we may be seeing a Japanese track released before the end of the year, this is according to the staff, and from what I gather it won’t be Okayama.
