iRacing.com – Road America Reality Check Video

iRacing subscriber Sam Hazim has once again put together another of his famous reality check videos, this time pairing up real-life photos with footage from iRacing’s Road America track.

Once again, Sam has gone great lengths to demonstrate the accuracy of iRacing’s tracks, matching both exact angle and most of the on-track activity as the photos morph into the iRacing footage.

Located in Elkart Lake, Wisconsin, Road America is considered to be one of the finest road racing facility in the United States. The 6,5 kilometer track offers an interesting mix of ups and downs, long high speed straights and fourteen corners, including the famous carousell. The track accommodates up to 150,000 spectators and is one of the few US tracks suitable to host a Formula One Grand Prix.

Well done! I will now impersonate the average Youtube user: What is the music? Sweet tune.

  • F1Racer

Very impressive.   Obviously with laser scanned tracks you would probably expect these results but to see it right there in front of you in such a way is something else.

I don’t think anyone could argue iRacing’s track accuracy anyway but if anyone needed proof, this video is just that.   Nice job.

Thx Sony :( I cant watch it in Germany…

  • stabiz

What is it with Germany? Everytime I upload and Youtube gives a copyright message its always to let me know a video is blocked in Germany.

There has been a legal dispute between Youtube and the record industry in Germany a while ago.

The record labels demanded to be paid more, Youtube declined and as such had to block videos with music content from those labels. That usually affects music videos but also background music such as the one you use in your videos..

There are several ways to get past this though, using http://www.vtunnel.com being the easiest method.

Ah, I see. Still a bit weird that record companies have different standards or regulations from country to country. BMG and Sony for instance, are blocking some stuff only in Germany.

Aye, I would also say it’s a good showcase for LIDAR to be used as a tool for game development now.

Sure it’s very expensive, as only iRacings business model can fund it atm, but if anything I hope it shows developers the importance of the subtleties and nuance in quality content that makes the core experience far more immersive as lines and textures aren’t perfectly straight or looped in real life.

I also want to know how the song is called..

  • Jorge Okamoto

The music is “Farewell No 1″ by Shigeru Umebayashi. Nice comparison video.

  • stabiz

High five, Jorge! Knew I had heard it before, soundtrack in a cool movie.

I liked the vid, but the music made me want to jab a fork repeatedly into my ear canal.

I love RA, but the idea of F1 being able to race there is a joke.  It would, however, be a great way to ruin the most fan-friendly track in the US.
