iRacing will be introducing a neat little feature as part of the upcoming new build – Paintable wheels.

The new addition to iRacing’s built-in livery editor does not just allow subscribers to pick a wheel color to go along with their custom livery, players can also choose whether or not the wheels should have a matte or chrome finish.

You “moaning about driverswaps”-guys never seem to get it. People
working on visual things like rims, templates or new effects are NEVER
the same guys as those working on technical stuff like getting new “ingame-rules” (e.g. Lucky-Dog) into the system or those driver changes. It’s not like they dropped one thing for the other, those guys of the technical-department are surely still working on driver changes and have nothing to do with paintable rims etc.

Be patient, I bet it’s going to take at least another year to finally get driverswaps.
Seems to be quite complicated to get the things sorted with the way iRacing and their website works.

    – which driver registers on the server and joins with a car
    – how to you manage people signing for a race but not joining with their own cars
    – how do you manage to enable people joining an existing car during a pitstop
    – who will get which safety-rating points when there are more drivers participating in one single car
    – who will gain/lose which iRating-Points during a race when drivers of the same car have different levels of iRating
    – who will gain/lose iRating when drivers of the same car have a different lenght of time in the car (e.g. one does a 3h stint whilst the other two are only 30min in the car)
    – how do you apply the SR-system
    – how do you manage a SR-limited race of 17 incidents – per car or per driver
    – etc. etc. etc.

It’s quite complicated with iRacings website-system you know. It’s not like
rFactor where you can simply jump in as spectator and jump in whichever
car you like because you got no accounts, no real names and no statistics to be sorted.

      Hello there Steve Myers!

But in all seriousness, I agree with the post above. They’ve also said that driver swaps are actually in testing and actually happening now in the office, so they’ve certainly made progress.

Sim racers : never happy. This has been asked for since the day after we were able to add custom skins, and now it’s not enough even though it seems to be one of the best implemented systems out there.

One thing is for sure, my McLaren will look hawt with matte powder blue rims.

Over 40 pages of comments over the last three years, a solid addition to the aesthetics.
