iRacing.com – New Mid Ohio & Ford Mustang Previews

iRacing has released five high-resolution previews of two upcoming content additions to their online racing simulation, showing us the Mid Ohio Sports Car Course and the Ford Mustang FR500S.

Both items are already available for pre-order, iRacing expects the track to be out as early as mid next week with the Mustang taking a few days longer to be ready for competition.

Opened in 1962, the 3.8 kilometer Mid Ohio Sports Car Course has seen its share of sports car history, hosting notable Group C, Camel GT, Grand Am and American Le Mans Series races just to name a few. Even open wheelers are no strangers to the track as the CART championship and the IRL have hosted races at Mid-Ohio.

Powered by a 4.6l V8-engine putting out 325hp, the Ford Mustang FR500S is an assembly-line produced racing vehicle that is eligible in various series aimed at privateer drivers, including the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge for the Miller Cup which is sanctioned by the Grand American Road Racing Association.

    Oww yess, finally!!

Getting the SimBin and R Factor crowd is easier than you think, we’re starved for quality control, not content, but you have to offer us SOMETHING to drive.

You are kidding. Most of us will not pay a monthly fee for a game.

  • mike84

    man the track looks awesome.

    mustang graphically looks great.

orubasarot:iRacing, your only Euro tin top is a front wheel drive diesel without a manual.Seriously, that’s not even subtle, that’s just blatantly antagonizing.Getting the SimBin and R Factor crowd is easier than you think, we’re starved for quality control, not content, but you have to offer us SOMETHING to drive.

European tin tops, sound like a cat being tortured! just kidding  I’d love to see BMW in iracing.

Here is a nice tin top

Yeah!!! Bring the Ladas and the Dacias!!!

Seriously, I couldn’t agree with you more on this respect… The Lotus and Radical are the two exceptions in my view since the GT1 C6.R and the Falcon are still too redneckish to my taste…

    Bring a Benz, a Bimmer, an Alfa, a Lancia…

Enough of the tasteless cheapo americrap. Give us moar eurotrash!

orubasarot: Don’t care how well it is modeled, no way under any circumstances am I buying a Mustang. Having a Solstice and that oval bucket with wheels is bad enough. I know all about the sale and the bundle and the $6 in credits and the fact that I have a D license waiting to be used, and yet it’s just not going to happen. I’d rather pay $15 to make the oval content disappear from my account so I wouldn’t have to even look at it in the drop down selection menus.iRacing, your only Euro tin top is a front wheel drive diesel without a manual. I agree European content is the key to attracting European customers, but to be fair, this must be how many US sim racers felt during the time between NR2003 and iRacing, when all that was on offer was Simbin’s European content. And isn’t the VW actually a US race series?

On topic, the car modelling is very detailed but still somehow doesn’t look “real” – not sure why – maybe its the unusual shade of red.

So dont, why bother leaving comments than?

I was one of the people saying I’d never try iRacing because of the cost, but I got fed up with G Motor, I don’t care about pricing anymore I’m just sick of old and ugly.

There was a $15 3 month renewal deal on my free 1 month account that I had back from the Radical/Silverstone promo. So basically I got 4 months of iRacing for $15 and now I’m just in too deep to get out. Only way back is Targa Florio and Power and Glory on active servers, and that shit ain’t gonna happen.

If iRacing had a GT3 911 or M3 I’d immediately drop the $150 or so on a season worth of tracks. And if they ever do the Ring then that’s it, it’s over, they got the entirety of simracing in the bag for the next decade. Put your house up for short sale and move back in with mom.

I just wonder what’s going to happen a year down the line when they’ve introduced another 6-10 cars. If the subscribership (it’s a word!) doesn’t go up considerably, it’ll be tough to actually find races for certain cars. Right now it’s not too bad, but I really hope that they can attract more players.

But I’m looking forward to this. I’m about as European as a guy can be, yet I have this strange love of these sluggish muscle cars, so this car should be perfect for me.

Wonder if the skies mean anything. Some are nice clear days, in others it looks like its on the verge of raining. Haze seems to match the sky conditions too.

Could just be the direction the camera is facing, of course. It’s been a while since my sub lapsed. In the current engine, do the sky graphics vary?

  • Zolus

For me the main missing thing in iRacing (and other sims as well) is gravel physics and rally/rallycross. There is a huge gap on the market, there is no proper rally simulation since the dated Richard Burns Rally. I hope that rFactor 2 will bring us proper tyre physics with ability to simulate loose surfaces.

iRacing does look stunning, if I had the time to race online I would get a subscription in no time!

Not currently, these screenshots show the new skies off.

I am also sucked in by iRacing now, and I would also love to see some (German) european cars. An M3 and Spa would make me go full out fanboi. Or a 430 GT2, ai, ai, ai, ai.

  • Maddy

The car looks awesome! Maybe the best modell iRacing has made, but the rims look arkward while moving.

I am looking forward to drive it. :)

The Corvette is C6R is a $650,000(probably more new) race car that can outlap much of the competition. How is that redneck? The Z06 and ZR1 street cars are considered super cars. I don’t get your thinking. Just because it has an American badge on it doesn’t make it “redneck”.

It does if you’re a bigot, which I am.

Have you seen the interiors? It’s like a Cavalier in there. It’s not just the roofs flying off either. There’s no class or refinement, I don’t care about performance because I’d never drive a Corvette in real life, they’re for suburbanite midwestern grandpas.

Plus I can’t even buy the Corvette in iRacing because I need a D or C license car first. My only choice is that open diff Falcon. I’m not going to buy two cars that I don’t want just to progress my license.

I’m not asking iRacing to give me the entire VLN field of cars here. Just give me ONE. I’m perfectly happy with the Abarth 500 in NetKar Pro for example, one car done right is enough for me and the iRacing team are certainly the most capable people of accomplishing that.

  • ChadSmith2

Gasp… The interior looks bad, so I won’t drive it on a video game… lol

You can advance your D license with the Star Mazda. Then you will be able to race the Radical, DP, Lotus, and Corvette.

  • Raikku

I’ve had 100% content in iR already over a year… So you can keep talkin about which cars are shit or not, I just buy them and smile while I enjoy driving.

  • joseki

I am looking forward to Mustang, maybe it is the first tin top which I can drive more than a couple of test laps before going back to Lotus eventhough I am a bit sceptic.

I would love to see some “real racing” tin tops from Europe or Japan. I don’t understand those big floating boats they call a racing cars in America (and Australia). I need a race car which is tight and precise!

I don’t like iRacing’s current tin tops but luckily there is so many great tracks from outside Europe. I’m so bored of Euro tracks that it’s refreshing to find “new” ones from US. I hope that we get some tracks from South America as well, those are totally unknown for me.

    …Yawn… nice redneck mobile.

More machismo than a pair of bull testicles.

I intended to make a tongue in cheek comment. Please don’t take me seriously.

Vettes are also sold over here and I would certainly never kick a C6.R out of my garage.

But when it comes to high performance cars, I believe that most of the world doesn’t think of American cars. And I’m not trying to provoke a debate here… But the U.S. is Ferrari biggest market and I believe it is also the same for Mercedes, BMW, Lamborghini et all.

BTW, I own a 1970 American derived Dodge GTX V8 so I appreciate muscle cars. I also have a diesel Peugeot commuter on the other side of my garage, because you know: fuel is expensive nowadays! :D

Finally, redneckish was intended as funny, not derogatory. The same as eurotrash. Please accept my apologies if I offended you in some form or way.

I find it hilarious that people complain about the cost of something to enjoy over a long period of time yet compare it to the purchase of alcohol or cigarettes etc at almost the same cost for a good 5 mins of enjoyment.

I dont get it? Oh and I hate to break it to some, but not everything in life is for free….make your choice and get over it??

And to be honest, speaking from an Australian point of view anything rFactor is basically Dead, its been dead for ages however it could be different elsewhere in the world going by these news articles etc here.

Anyways glad to see Mid Ohio, one of my fav tracks :)
