iRacing.com – Ford GT Previews

iRacing.com has released a bunch of new preview images, showing off the Ford GT GT2 car that will soon join their online racing simulation.

The Ford GT, alongside with other content items such as Suzuka and the Honda HPD ARX01-C LMP2 prototype is due to join iRacing as part of their big summer 2.0 update that is due to be released very soon. The previews also show off a new track, Iowa Speedway, that will be released this summer as well.

Campaigned by Robertson Racing, the Ford GT GT2-R is an American Le Mans Series GT2 car based on Ford’s road-going Ford GT Supercar. Following several seasons of ALMS competition, the GT2-R made its Le Mans debut last June.

    :-P

You want iCandy (cwutididthar?) from a sim, iRacing is the place. You want iPhysics from a sim, iRacing is the place. If you want iRace and not iMismatch, iRacing is the place.

iRacing isn´t an eyecandy. The Ford looks quite ugly so far.

i’m with Big Ron about how it looks , if those pics comes from a rFactor mod there would be a lot of people complaining.

sor sure they have the best physics , and correct sounds.
but they should take care also about how his cars look ,  they could be much better, and they do not have to have in mind things like  offline races with grids of 40 – 70 cars.

if you are going to sold an i-expensive product you have to sold a completely rounder product as some modders do for free…

    my two i-cents

    Regards.

iracing suffers from some weird stuff when it comes to prt sc my car looks beautiful in game but when I take pics it looks subpar.

  • Heimdall Exus

The Ford one could look better but the LMP2 is awesome.

  • Heimdall Exus

It’s an online service. Where things like “offline races with grids of 40 – 70 cars” would help them? IMO of course.

  • Aaron Carlisle

Eww.. At all of the flat carbon fiber.  Have they ever heard of normal/bump mapping?

  • Eric Potvin

The only part of i-expensive I would like everyone to take into account when voicing their opinion is that I pay 10$ per month to have access to dedicated servers that run hundreds of races a week in different car/track pairing, the same as I was paying in my GTR2/rFactor league to run 1 race per week on 1 track per week.

So please understand the main aspects that differentiate the iRacing online service vs regular 50$ sim.

¿En qué estás pensando…?i dont want to say that the Ford GT look bad , because it looks pretty good , i just want to say that it could look better  ;)

i mean they could raise the graphical detail a bit more because they will not be afected by a decrease in the game performance due to the posibility of having very large grids. they have a theoretical maximum of 64   i think , but what amount have been used , 40 cars? in nascar races maybe?

i do like Iracing anyway, but is expensive . Maybe is good for those that have enough time to extract all the juice of the money that they paid.

    Regards

  • Hompe

Carbon fibre panels are never that rough in real life, they are usually covered in a smooth clear coat like a piano

  • Gonzas – HistorX Team.

yes i understand your point and the diferences,

as i said i use to play Iracing only  from time to time , no many times this year, but i  bought some circuits, cars …
this is not real racing , we are talking about videogames, so if you put all the things that some good regular 40 € videogames gives you in one hand and what Iracing videogame gives you in the other hand you can choose what is better ,  and if the diference between them worth that amount of money.

    Regards.

Im sure the physics will be on par with other iRacing stuff. But the sounds in iRacing are terrible so I imagine that pedigree will carry over.

One of the least impressive iRacing models I’ve seen.

  • stabiz

I agree, its the least impressive preview I have seen from iRacing. The car rides strangely, the wheels look wrong and to be fair that paint job is not the best way to promote it either.

  • Meton Sanga

sounds are terrible? compared to what? i think you should re-phrase it to sounds are not perfect but they are the best on offer in a race sim!

  • kkacper

Hompe is right. It’s usually not bumpy at all to be honest. I’ve a real woven carbon fibre guitar pick and to be honest it’s very smooth! You don’t feel a tiny bit of roughness on it. Well that’s for a 5 or 10 euro guitar pick (don’t remember too well) so I would guess a racing carbon fibre should be similar smoothness.

  • Big Ron

Carbon is smooth, because it gets painted with clear lacquer to get an even surface.

  • Aaron Carlisle

My dad just recently bought a Carbon Fiber helmet from Bell Helmets, and while it is clear coated, you can still feel every part where the fiber sheets overlap each other.  You can also see every seam under the right light as well.  Moral of the story, I hate completely flat carbon fiber in-games because it’s never one big sheet like that.

  • Bakkster

Usually hosted sessions just leave it at the maximum number of pit stalls. A lot of the special events get full pit stalls, too. For the official series, they usually prefer to split them earlier. I’m pretty sure there have been at least a few 60 car races at Spa.

  • Silly(c)One

    Oh grow up, now…

    This nitpicking is totally lame.

  • DR.Joint

looks very nice. i don’t fuckin want to know how you would like to be this car looking. go play dirt 3 :)

  • frigopie

well, it is true that carbon fiber is smooth when you touch it, but light passes through the lacquer layer, so it looks a little bumpy although the surface is not. This surface lacquer reflects environment in a smooth way, not bumpy. So i think the best way to create a carbon fiber shader is to use a bump mapping that affects the diffuse color and merge the result with the reflection (or/and specular) of the lacquer layer using the surface normal (not the bump normal)

  • Aaron Carlisle

    @Silly(C)One.

If I’m to pay a montly subscription to the game, and then pay for every piece of the content as well, it better be right.  And with how the carbon fiber is there, it is not right.  Their textures have always been very lackluster, and it really shows with the latest Prototype and now the Ford GT.

    @Frigopie

Yes, bump, and normal mapping would do wonders in iRacing.  Most of their textures are very flat, and it needs to be addressed.

  • SBKRacer

you guys have some amazing eyes I would never hava noticed that and now it looks totally ugly lol!

  • Bakkster

Have a screenshot of another game that does it right?
