How ? IRacing is a whole different scenario and completely legal. Plus you aren’t paying for mods.

#1 Extra content for iRacing isn’t a mod.
#2 iRacing is a legitimate buisness and selling extra content is therefore legal.
    #3 Fail troll is fail.

Don’t hold out much hope for not getting addicted. I signed up to iRacing a few days ago and im loving it, despite having reservations for a long time about the whole subcription buisness. I literally dont care about that now having experienced the feel and accuracy of this sim

Terrible analogy. iRacing isn’t a mod. It’s a game, an entire sim racing community, with dedicated servers, regular upgrades, content additions, etc.

Very well said, man! I had the same experience about 10 months ago. Now iRacing is the only sim I drive. Everything else doesn’t feel nearly as good.

Cool ‘no strings’ offer. I’ve got $85.00 in unused iRacing bonuses, and since i haven’t driven iRacing in months and the Skip schedule is totally changed, I need a bunch of tracks if I drive next season. I’ll just buy a 3 pack this weekend for the discount there – then have a $5.00 iRacing credit added back to my account.

An entity charging for another persons free mod, and iRacing charging for content are *totally* different issues.

I’m fairly new to iRacing and loving it. It has great racing, of course, but also a great forum community and (real) motorsport news. Heck, I think the racing news alone is almost worth the $99 per year that I paying for the service.

  • mikeahowski

I have to agree with some people above, I used to be anti Iracing, especially because of the “pay per car and track” But now I see why, and I’m not being tricked into buying more content, I WANT to, because it’s that good.

I do however have to control myself before I spend a ton of money on everything.

So, $5 to try it out is great, and you should at least give it a chance.

One other thing I like about the iRacing concept is you know the sim continues to improve over time. And you don’t have to wait for two or three (or four?) years to get the next upgrade like you do with standard releases.

If you’re paying this much money ($99 per year) I just can’t imagine how many bad deals you’re getting on cars and tracks!

Hey Fellas. Those of you who haven’t tried iRacing, this seems like the best opportunity to see what it’s all about. I’ve been having fun with it for almost a year and I really like the ‘feel’ of this sim program. It has incredible depth, and you can take it however far you want to; from hotlapping, to racing, and in different series all the while improving your licensing which will honestly equate to greater skills for you that will be applicable to other sims and mods (even real driving to certain extents). What is really wonderful is knowing that because of the serious, and I mean serious, financial backing, real motorsport world involvement, and a successful business concept, the new update/builds come about every quarter with fantastic evolutionary improvements. It just doesn’t stop growing. It’s their business to make the driver and the fan alike, happy.

    Get a grip.

iRacing make all their own content and are fully entitled to sell their product and service as they see fit.

The rFactor mod issue is people selling mods that are freely available and also made by others, not by the people selling it.

The two are nowhere near related.

I don’t know about this being the *best* opportunity to join – it’s only a single $5.00 credit on a single purchase. IRacing runs many different promotions, some of which can be of real advantage to a new signee.

Not saying someone shouldn’t join, everything else you said is valid, plus iRacing has (or used to have) other affiliations, like an SCCA tiein where if you’re a (new) member you can/(could) get a significant discount on the annual sub.

With quick promotions, it’s valid to try iRacing for a month (being sure to uncheck automatic renewal as that is on by default) – you could within that month be in a higher class and sampling other cars while racing with others (it used to be that in a month best you could do was one promotion). Of course with every class promotion, comes purchases of both cars and tracks so that must be kept in mind. Any class you gain, any SR/IR you have, and any items you purchase, remain yours if you choose to leave and return at a later date so you do *own* your content; also any upgrades to it while you’re gone will be automatically applied if you re subscribe.

Since when is $5 NEXT to nothing? I can think of at least 499 other amounts that are much closer to nothing.

Still baffled as to the appeal of iRacing. And yes, I have tried it when they did the brief free promo. Great sim if it was free.

  • Jack B

UncleChuckle: Since when is $5 NEXT to nothing?

Since, you became old enough to get a weekly allowance. If you have a job or an allowance $5 for a month is next to nothing.

If you don’t have either then yeah, it’s a massive amount of money. Don’t worry though, here’s an idea. Maybe one of your baby teeth will fall out. Put it under your pillow and you’ll be that much closer to having $5.

Got a buddy of mine to jump in on this promo, and he hasn’t looked back. I got in on the $25 for 3 months deal last year, and iRacing has completely changed my outlook on sim racing. A lot more structure to it than other sims.
