iRacing.com – Daytona 500 Coming Up

The Daytona 500, flagship event of every NASCAR Sprint Cup season, is less than two weeks away and while the real life teams are preparing for the season opener, the iRacing community is gearing up for the virtual version of the event.

iRacing’s Daytona 500 will be run on February 13th, qualifying starts on February 7th. The race is open to iRacing subscribers of all license levels, the only requirement being ownership of the Chevrolet Impala SS COT and the Daytona International Speedway.

Last weekend, Daytona was the site of iRacing’s first world tour event, the Rolex 2.4. The event was a huge success within the iRacing community, attracting 950 racers that were split into 24 groups of 39 or 40 drivers. To get a better idea what the event was about, make sure to check out Tim Wheatley’s race report and watch the Daytona 500 preview video below.

wow this sounds amazing!! i wish i had my simulator already!! :sad2: :sad2: :sad2:

If iRacing’s Virtual ROLEX 2.4 had 950 participants, I’d say the Virtual Daytona 500 will have 2,000. This should be epic.

What was said? Appears it was deleted? I will assume it was some childish rant about iRacing and rich kids, or maybe against NASCAR?

Felipe, you don’t like iRacing, we all know that, and it’s fine. You don’t have to troll every thread…

Hmmm, I am normally a road racer, but I might just buy the Chevy Impala SS as I have Daytona already and join this event, should be good fun.

Too bad that it will be driven at 0GMT or something so it’s almost impossible for some europeans (incl. me)

  • moppenheimer

Some crack about quality of racing, then a link to tmacarthur’s site

I wouldn’t be surprised if this event had well over 2,000 people, or even 3,000. It’s much easier to drive than the DP is. I am wondering if their servers are prepared for 40 or 50 races at once…

I wouldn’t be surprised either. I’ve heard quite a few people mention in practice that this was their first time driving the Impala SS COT. Although I’ve completed theRoad Course progression, this has been my first experience in the car as well. The Rolex was run with very few problems, judging from the overall response in the forums, so I would expect that they will be prepared.

Haha, lol! And about 1000 of them will end up buying both the COT and Daytona 30 minutes before the race, because ovals are easy and everyone is a hero.

DP race went silky smooth, 23 splits with 39-40 car in each split.. I think they can manage 3000 people, the real question is: how many of them will complete the race? :D

That’s a lot of “big ones”.
