Back in June, iOpener Media and Simbin have joined forces to create a game called Real-Time Racing Game based on the innovative iOpener Enabled technology that will allow sim racers to race against real-life drivers using GPS technology.
Even though RTR’s beta test will start soon, little info has emerged already on what the upcoming Real-Time Racing Game will be about. This changes now as the title is now listed on Simbin’s website, containing some very interesting hints.
The text mentions powerful GT cars that players will be able to race. Furthermore, iOpener’s and Simbin’s twitter feed recently featured some interesting chatter about mysterious, sexy race cars. And to top it all off, RTR has recently been giving away tickets to the FIA GT racing event at Zolder.
Doing the math on all this and taking into account that Simbin does still hold the FIA GT license, are we seeing a new FIA GT simulation shaping up here? Sim racers have been asking for a new GTR for years now and the thought of having a modern GT racing game equipped with RTR’s technology is pretty mind-boggling. Who wouldn’t be excited to face the real FIA GT drivers in their stunning race cars?
Take all of this with a grain of salt though as I´m only speculating using the few facts we have. Still, this would be a very interesting prospect.

You got to be very confident about your track fidelity and your physics to do a sim like that.
It would be quiet pathetic to race real pilot with physics such as in GTR2 or Race.

could it be GTR3 ? I mean new FIA GT game.

I don’t see why Simbin wouldn’t have already made a FIA GT game since GTR2 if they still held the license.

simbin is selling DLC for full price on daily basis now! I’m feed up of buying a so called “new game” every 6 months from them! besides there’re moders out there doing a much better job for free than this money hungry “sim devs” eg. Enduracers!

Well, if I remember correctly, the iOpener videos were about a Marcos, right?
There are Marcos in GTR-Evolution.

Well we shall see. Maybe! Will they have a updated game engine like Lizard? Real time tire physics? I would rather have raced ALMS or ILMS. But FIAGT is better then an open wheeler.

the Zolder tickets could have something to do with the Zolder track being used as a test track. This year i have seen the iOpener team, testing with the Moritz Marcos team on allot at the Thursday free practice sessions. The tree Marcos cars had the iOpener logos splattered all over the side of the cars. the cars originally compete in the DSC series. A GTR3 would be a super surprise, but if it has to be produced by the current SIMBIN dev team, i am not sure i would be impressed. What made GTR1 and GTR2 so cool , was the style and dedication of the old Simbin Dev team.

I think because Porsche and Ferrari are bitching.

Yes, Simbin hold the license but the license no longer includes Porsche or Ferrari (and most likely doesn’t include Maserati as Maserati are owned by Ferrari and are also not in GTR Evo).
Are any of the FIA GT cars really that sexy?

Agreed. Even their 3D modelling is worse. Not to mention the physics.

heh, something new comes along once again and already the negative criticism comes rolling in.
Oh how we love to bite the hand that feeds us.

i dont want to nag about Simbin titles. i have been a big fan of their GTR Series. i just dream of a GTR3, the old way… i dont like the Race/Evo style that much. Check the models and textures.. they speak for themselves. It like they are done by someone on speed. and with no time to waste. in comparison to GTR1/2, they look like a cartoon. If Simbing pumps out a new GTR, and it has the look and feel of the first tittles, i will be the first to send them my money.
But hey… we never know whats arround the corner. so i guess we cant shoot the bear before it comes out of his cave…

He enjoys taking shots at people while hiding behind the comfort of the internet (nothing new huh), yet he is the employee of company and is doing this to its’ customers, all the while thinking he’s cute. Someone over at iRacing should have a long hard chat with him.

I do wonder why Simbin bother anymore with the sim racing community. No matter what they have lined up they are heckled and criticised, accused of deviating from sims and pandering to the needs of the console/arcade players.
For whats it worth I enjoy their offerings and not being an owner of STCC or Race07 look forward to purchasing Race On to combine with GTR Evo.
Whilst I am hopeful for a GTR3 with the current state of the FIA-GT Series. 2 Hour Races? Comon! and the expense of a Ferrari or Porsche license I remain slightly pessimistic.

I am pretty sure company´s like SImbin or ISI dont take community critisisme to seriously. We have to be honest, our small community of people who post here do not have a real affect on how producers think. I do talk to people in the gaming industry very often, and i have the impression that they are amused by it, rather then demotivated. For us its a passion, or a hobby… for them its a job and a business. the thinking patterns between the two dont really match.
So dont get worked up to much when somebody critisized something. There is nothing wrong with stating what you dont like.

Guess what, you’re part of it!
On topic, I’m very interested on how the concept of driving in a race with real time data will work. I gues you’re racing ghost cars which cannot be hit or damaged? Or maybe you can redo a race in which your driving affects all other cars and their positions?

Even if GTR3 (if it will be created, if) will resemble RACE* I’ll probably buy it… I’m a sucker for GT racing in general, mainly because it features such a diversity of cars. Among them machines that are being put together in a garage by a bunch of blokes, have a fibergalss body build by a subcontractor (for example a yacht marina), a Chevy V8 dropped in and they go racing, going bankrupt before they manage to sell more than 5 road cars… spirit of the old times is strong in teams like these.
* If it won’t be built around Lizard however, it will be criminal

For me if it wasn’t for Simbin I wouldn’t have bought my steering wheel, so anything they produce should be good enough for me. Until they make one big screw up (which they didn’t so far).
The RTR idea I’m sure will make waves and bring more and more drivers to the racing comunity. Sounds really well on paper, and even if the implement the AI recovery poorly it will still be fun to watch from behind how the dudes in front crash or fight with each other in epic maneuvers.
Long live Simbin (and Logitech)

If a new game is on the way, I sincerely hope they are using something that has superseeded the gmotor2 engine…
Shift has really opened my eyes to how outdated the ISI engine is these days and it frustrates the hell out of me that it keeps on being regurgitated, time after time, for each new sim evolution from Simbin!
