iOpener – New Testing Video

iOpener Media has released a new video, showing their GPS-backed system being tested at Zolder. The video lets you compare real life and virtual footage as the action on track is transferred real time into the simulation.

iOpener is still looking for interested racers to join the beta test phase of their product, their system will support rFactor as well as number of other racing games, click here to sign up for the beta test.

I would love to beta test this. Looks amazing. I signed up a few months ago, but I must be too far away from the test server to be accepted or something. Bummer.

Anyone know if this version of Zolder is available to the public? It looks very accurate. I guess it would have to be or else this system wouldn’t work.

You would think they would have used a prper camera mount, hard to compare with a handheld camera bouncing all arround distracting the eye

  • Octavarium

This may be a silly question but…

What happens if you collide with the other cars, surely as there position in game is determined by their real life position you would have to do away with collisions?

Is that not Benhur’s Zolder for rFactor? As proof of concept it is a really good effort. I hope they alter the FOV on the sims camera to reflect that used in real life for the next promo vid, if that is what it is.

    this is a total gimmick.

how on EARTH is this going to work practically?
if its based on the real life drivers….what happens if you hit someone in the game? nothing will happen on track.

you can’t race with the real drivers, because they won’t be reacting to anything you do!

its absurd. pointless. its going to be a massive failure.
its a stupid concept. if you can’t interact with other cars on the track you’re racing on, what on earth is the point? you’re better off playing with AI.

eiwfihaaa: for god sake, this is in it’s testing fase, give it time and then we will see how it all will work.

Your talking like it is already released.

Patients is a good thing with these things!

you could participate in the formula 1 race you are just seeing live in tv. sure, if you collide with a real car, that car won’t fly off track (lol..), but what’s the point? it’s a very creative and fun idea in my opinion.

btw, you’re very single-minded and pessimistic. as seen very often these days. try to smile sometime! it works!! ;-)

no, im realistic. theress a difference. how have i shown single minded ness?? I commented on the FACT that you can’t interact with other cars, and thats why its just a gimmick. It’s not just about crashing, its about the RACING aspect too….kind of a key part of motorsport. If you can’t interact with the cars, you can’t race them. Its absurd.

I’m open minded to the facts, and reasoned argument. I stated an argument, and gave a reason for it.
