A few days ago, I published a first item on iOpener Media’s system that will allow sim racers to race real-life racers thanks to GPS and other modern technology.
Now, a bunch of new videos have become available, showing the system at work at the Belgian Zolder circuit. The videos show a bunch of Marcos Mantis, equipped with iOpener technology. While the real cars are running on track, a sim racer is sitting in the pits and races them in rFactor.
iOpener is currently looking for interested racers to join the beta test phase of their product, their system will support rFactor as well as number of other racing games. Click the image below to get to the videos and click here to sign up for the beta test.

got one question what happens if you crash in to the back of the car that is racing in real life because they will Carrie on in real life but the game version will spin and then they will be out of time

I’ve never actually seen him touch the car infront. Also, they still don’t mention the tracks as one of the 2 main problems, which is very odd.

I think the other major problem is the fact that those real/GPS cars will not react in whatever way to the presence of the player. So it seems it’s only good for hotlapping/comparison?

Read this old article when his was announced

There is a part whic says :
“”If Hamilton is driving behind you he can’t see you [in the game], so he would drive right through you,” explained Mr Lurling.
“So the AI takes over at that point and you see a very realistic overtaking.”
The system also handles the results of in-game collisions between real and virtual drivers.
In this case, the real car always drives away. The gamer’s fate is less certain.
“We go for optimal realism but the game experience has to be right,” he said. “

i really cant see the point of this if the AI takes over for overtaking and blocking then your not racing against the racing driver because that’s were most of the skill is when racing
