Two weeks ago, the team behind the HistorX Historic GT & Touring car mod for rFactor has released previews of the scratch-made Porsche 904.
A new batch of previews now show the Porsche’s cockpit in three different versions as the team keeps on paying attention to the smallest details. Also shown is the mod’s dirt screen feature as the last three shots demonstrate the various stages of screen dirt. The shots have been taken using a three-screen setup to show the cockpits in full detail.
Officially called the Porsche GTS, the 904 was powered by a two liter boxer engine and enjoyed success both as a street model and in racing. The car’s most notable success came in 1964 when it won the legendary Targa Florio at its debut outing.

The earlier NSX cockpit shots are impressive. Sadly these are not.

Well done for taking panoramic screen shots and everything, but you might want to take care when stitching them together so that it doesn’t look like the car was involved in a chassis splitting accident.

DW,
the reason why that cockpit looks so good is (apart of the obvious talent of the authors) is because they’ve used a lot of detail in the mesh and in the textures, as that mod is meant for rF2 and modern computers.
We’ve tried to balance the level of quality and performance though, putting limits to the number of polys and size of textures.
I’m sure you already know all this because as you show such confidence you’re probably a top notch modder, so I invite you to give us a hand to improve the cockpit, if you don’t consider it acceptable for you :)

“Well done for taking panoramic screen shots and everything, but you might want to take care when stitching them together so that it doesn’t look like the car was involved in a chassis splitting accident.”
That happens when you have a triple screen resolution and the “multiview” option checked off in the video options. It really has nothing to do with stitching at all. If I took a screenshot of 5400×1050, it would appear the same unless the multiview option was deselected.

How is the Porsche 904 supposed to fit in the mod will it be part of the GTC-65 class or will it go into a more historical part of the mod or both?

We’ll see. It will appear as a GTC65 only if it raced in FIA Historic series during the years included in the mod.
For the moment they’re just included as 60s original cars, out of the FIA historic series. But of course you can mix all of them using the opponent selection screen.

OK so you are not making a WSC64 or so part of v. 2.0 I see. Anyway it should be great fun to drive the Porsche 904 :)
