Historic Trans Am Mod 1.0 – Released

From kiwisteve and sunalp2 and comes the Historic Trans Am Mod for GTR2, adding historic Trans Am series action to the simulation.

While the Trans Am series was well known for its exciting V8 battles, the series also featured a class for smaller racing cars under two litres such as the Fiat Abarth, Alfa Romeo GT and BMC Mini Cooper.

The mod is based on the models of GT Legends and includes both classes, so both fans of muscle cars and smaller touring cars should enjoy this one. The mod comes with six different championships as well as RMi’s rear gear mod to select differential ratios.

    Historic Trans Am…hmmm…I think the name of this mod is misleading. When I think of Trans Am this is what I think of.

    Not Alfa Romeo’s, Abarth’s, and Cortina’s. No offense, but this just seems like another GTL rehash.

    That website was invaluable when I started researching the subject – and although there are no Dodge Darts or Javelins there are already 40+ big bangers in the launch mod (1966-68) and more coming (for a 1969-70 follow-up). So, if you like trans-amseries.com I really do think you’ll like it – try it and see, you may be pleasantly surprised at what’s in the mod.

    @daltontr
    You are right to a degree, this is not a recreation of the Historic Trans Am series as it is run today, and yes it is another use of the GTL cars in GTR2.

    However:

    The cars that were available to us when we were putting the mod together was limited. Although the GT500 has since been released, and we do have permission to use the Pontiac Firebird after it is released for GTL. That is still only 5 car types.

    kiwisteve and I both came together on this project from different perspectives. I was just going to put together a few Championships utilizing the Authentic Trans Am Camaro skins that I had done for the GTL-GTR2 mod by scca1981 and include the U2 liter class to add to the grid. (which I might add not many people realise that those smaller cars ran in Trans Am). While kiwisteve had done all the Authentic liveries for the Camaro, Mustang and Falcon Sprint.

    So in the end we just joined forces.

    We actually started off with the title ’66-’68 Trans Am, but with real liveries spanning those years, to limit the Championships to just each specific year would narrow the grid sizes once again. That was the reason for the new title, to be able to run multiple years in the same championships.

    With over 60 cars in the mod, with only 30 cars competing in each championship, the re-playability factor is extended. Each time you run it, you will have a different spread of entrants.

    This is just another way to get enjoyment from the 60′s style cars that GTL offers in GTR2.

    eeeeh I dunno, maybe it’s just me but I would’ve preferred to just see these cars encorporated into Power and Glory for the next update–as mentioned, far too many of the “important” marques aren’t here to make it true Trans-Am. That’s not to knock your work in any way, your models are gorgeous as always and I’m sure the physics are top-notch (I’ll find out for sure tonight after work!)… but I think it would’ve complimented PnG better.
