Historic GT & Touring Car 2.0 – Porsche vs Corvette Video

Stabiz has put together a new preview video of HistorX’s Historic GT & Touring Car 2.0 mod for rFactor, showing off an intense battle on the Italian Varano de’Melegari track.

We get to ride in the Porsche 911 S 2.0 as it tries to catch the Corvette Stingray in front of it.

Using GT Legends as a base, the Historic GT & Touring Car mod for rFactor proved to be one of the most popular releases for the simulation. The second version of the mod will be made up completely of scratch-made material, bringing several famous historic racing cars to rFactor.

another jewel video of a prime mod.

All these mods that are still coming out for rFactor? :weird: I don’t quite get it. There is a lot of valuable and very appreciated effort and time put into some of these amazing mods. This one for example is seemingly fantastic, and to rebuild it “from the ground” up, simply stupendous and incredible. So the question is, does this mean that all this valuable work and great mods will be easily converted (ported) over to the next gen which will be rFactor2?

  • orubasarot

Yeah I was thinking the same recently about some GTR Evo releases featured here, so little engine and so much talent. What the hell?

Also I do appreciate the effort but how much better than Power and Glory could this possibly be?

This mod is being done with rFactor in mind, as there’s no release date for rF2 and we don’t have any information about how the mod’s file system, etc. should be to be used with rF2.

As far as i see these mods being done for rF2 are in fact being developed in rF1 for the moment, but just have increased the poly count of the models and the texture size. Apart of that, and if they’ve got some support from ISI, i guess that from the modelling/painting point of view the main difference apart of that is having to use new shaders to get benefit of the improvements in rF2 graphics.

Of course this mod would look much better in rF2 and probably we could add more features, but for the moment we’re still doing it for rF.

Only time will tell, though :)

    Regards

Quite a lot better, I’d wager. Have you tried HistorX 1.0? It’s amazing, and 2.0 seems very promising indeed.

As for rFactor vs rFactor 2; with the right mods, rFactor is right up there along with the best simulations today. Sure, there’s always room for improvement, but there’s enough stuff in rFactor already to keep me happy for years to come.

Historic GT & Touring Car is every bit as good as Power and Glory.

They’re two different mods–PnG is designed to be, literally, a racing experience from the 1960s, including music, menus, venues, sounds, and handling. They use tire physics based on the original bias plys of the 1960s. They also have a much deeper roster of TC-65 style cars, including many extra Minis, Abarths, Cortinas, Healeys, etc…

HGT&TC is based on GT Legends, meaning the cars are built to run like modern historic racers–most have rollcages, motecs installed on the dashboard, and use modern “Vintage racing” tires, which somewhat duplicate old handling, but are still more modern, predictable and safer. They also brake like modern Historic racecars, which means generally shorter stopping distances and less brake fade.

All you need to do is brake for China Beach at Mid-Ohio in a ’65 Vette in HGT, and then brake for China Beach in the same car in PnG (a good 150 feet earlier) to see why.

HGT also has a large selection of 1970s road racing cars, and LeMans specials, that PnG does not have.

Both are amazing mods and well worth owning. We run HGT in our league simply because more people have rFactor than GTR2, and the rFactor community is more vibrant and populated than GTR2′s.

I have GTR: Evo and it has its moments, and while it obviously is graphically superior to rFactor, I shudder to think what HGT&TC would feel like in GTR: Evo without the realfeel mod.

Yep, rFactor with RealFeel beats them all hands down, including iRacing.

Looks and sounds are great, and the Vette seems to handle pretty realistic, as far as this is possible to judge from the footage. But the Porsche seems to handle a bit more friendly than it’s real counterpart. Especially at 6:20 I’m pretty sure a real 911 would have spun.

I don’t want to get into subjective opions about which is best – HistorX, P&G or GT Legends, so I’ll just deal in facts. rFactor does have the largest on-line community but not many of them race HistorX. GT Legends remains the centre of the historic GT and touring car racing community. The demise of the official lobby has hit on-line numbers but there are currently 88 racing in the GTL lobby and 13 racing HistorX in rFactor.

    That empty discussion…

I have installed the GTL, GTR2 (P&G standalone) and rFactor (HGT&TC standalone) and no have incompatibility problems…

If you look at the details are different mod/games even if they have the same cars

I don’t think they are getting help from ISI for their mod now I just wonder if those so called “rFactor 2″ mods are no more than what you just explained. BTW I believe they are not getting help from ISI for the simple fact they are reproducing copyrighted material so if ISI was helping them this could hurt our community very hard!

Rantam: Apart of that, and if they’ve got some support from ISI, i guess that from the modelling/painting point of view the main difference apart of that is having to use new shaders to get benefit of the improvements in rF2 graphics.Of course this mod would look much better in rF2 and probably we could add more features, but for the moment we’re still doing it for rF.Only time will tell, though :)Regards

Well they say they aren’t doing the physics until the very end. I would guess that the sound and models could easily be adapted to the new engine. The physics would be a different story. So maybe rF2 will be released before they get around to doing physics. I have a hunch that rF2 will not surface for another 12 months though.

I would be happy with an rF1.5 just to hold us over. Even if it had the exact same engine with improvements to nothing more then an improved UI, admin improvements to the dedicated server and stuff like that.

    Good point, makes sense.
