Historic GT & Touring Car 2.0 – Mercedes 300SLR Previews

Team HistorX has revealed another scratch-made model for their upcoming Historic GT & Touring Car 2.0 mod for rFactor, showing us first previews of the Mercedes Benz 300 SLR race car.

Based on the legendary Mercedes Benz W196 silver arrow Formula One car, the 300SLR was the companies weapon of choice for the 1955 sports car racing season. The car won the 1955 Mille Miglia in the hands of Stirling Moss but suffered a terrible fate at the 1955 Le Mans 24 Hours by being involved in the horrific crash that killed 82 spectators and driver Pierre Levegh. Mercedes-Benz retired from motorsports following the tragic race, ending the 300 SLR’s competition history.

Using GT Legends as a base, the Historic GT & Touring Car mod for rFactor proved to be one of the most popular releases for the simulation. The second version of the mod will be bringing many popular racing cars from the past to rFactor, including the Ferrari 330, the Porsche 904, the Aston Martin DB4 and many others.

    Mercedes didn’t retire from motor sports following Le Mans 1955.  They retired from the race, but went on to race at Dundrod, Targa Florio and the Swedish GP.

    I hope this doesn’t become some sort of vaporware, like the Prototype-C mod. But I think it won’t, we’re seeing a steady flow of previews, and the developers had a good base to start from. Also, in the meantime, the first version of the mod can be enjoyed ;)

    Considering that the D-Type was one of the biggest rivals to the 300SLR, I hope they have included a D Type in the next pack.

    I’m sure he’ll be back in business. The thing is that there’s no point on flooding you with videos of already released or introduced cars.
