Posted on October 20th, 2008 in

From SimLeague and Andrea “Xana” comes a track pack for GTR Evolution, bringing us the stock tracks with much more realistic lightning and saturation.

See the comparison shots below to find out what to expect from this, the pack includes the following tracks:

Brands Hatch 2007
Brno 2007
Curitiba 2007
Estoril 2007
Istanbul
Magny Cours
Monza 2007
Nurburgring
Oschersleben 2007
Valencia 2007
Zandvoort 2007
Anderstorp 2007

The pack will not overwrite original tracks but create a new subcategory in the track list, causing no mismatches during online racing.

Looks good for a cold winter day’s testing :P

See what happens when you de-saturate away from those unrealistic default colours ? Take note ppl.

    Much better !

I like colder asphalt colour but other things are better in the original version imo. Looks like the author need to buy a colour calibrator for his monitor or at least turn down any “game” or whatever other “refined” mode he uses. I have only ever seen that kind of dark grey grass in February

Nice to see this as an option… I agree with kkv though. The grass is just plain “winter” time. I’ll stick with the stock colors anyhow as I like the rich color look.

Reminds me of the revised coloration of the GTR2 Birmingham Motorplex, with a bluish tinge and no greens. It just is not realistic (unless viewed by aliens with a blue-white sun, I suppose)

The colour calibrator is actually very helpful and simple to use device. It takes only few minutes to get a result you never reach with tweaking your monitor by hand even if you do it forever. And after all you will find magicaly that colours of your games are just fine, your camera is not that crap you thought about and a printer prints almost the same you see on your screen. All that “unrealistic” and “cartoonish” thing is just an effect of a nuke brighted colour representation the display companies tend to set by default to impress unsophidticated customer.

looks like links are not allowed here. Try to google “eye one” or “spyder” + “calibrator”

The originals look far better to me.

Thanks kkv. I don’t really like how cold these shots look but properly calibrated colours can’t be anything other than a good thing :)

Thanks for the comparison, 6e660. It appears that the SL version is somewhat bluer and paler than RL, where (as we already have seen) the Simbin version has a smoggy yellow cast to it.

Also, we’ve got to take into consideration the actual lighting – those RL shots appear to have been made with a fairly heavy overcast present, while the Simbin coloration looks a lot more like heavy smog and the SL is just plain too washed out to be real (at least on my calibrated monitor).

From one extreme to another it seems…

    Great!

Much better and closer to reality for me. In real life there is a lot more white light on everything, the original simbin is too yellow and dark, in summer you have a bit of both and I must say SL did an awesome job!

    WTG!

  20. Timon Bolier

Ok, after testing some in game, it looks a bit too cold yes, like freezing in winter.

great :) this explains my strange feeling caused by the original screenshots

    nice job thx :)

The default GTRE colors are to warm. I just change the colors on my monitor using Magic Tune Premium to cool color and the efect is better than the track pack IMO. The effect is similar but the green is better.

    Cold color i mean.
