Simbin has released a new patch for the Steam version of GTR Evolution, improving the simulation in various ways.
The most important changes include a fixed draw distance to prevent popping up of track scenery, the ability to run several championships at the same time as well as a moved user-data folder.
Because of that, you will have to copy your custom skins over to the folder’s new location in “My Documents”, otherwise you won’t be seeing any custom skins. To update your installation, simply start Steam – No info has been given on a possible offline version of the patch.
Changes
-Added possibility to run several championships at the same time
-Moved user data folder to My Documents for Vista and non administrator support
-Updated mounting of expansion packs. Now one or more expansions can be uninstalled independently of each other
-New button layout for track category and model select
-New scroll boxes for car setup filters
-New layout of credits page
-Maximum FOV is now 150 instead of 120
-Changed upper limit of opponent skill to 110%
-New infoscreen in main menu
-Mouse over server information in lobby
-AI uses headlights in rainy weather
-Updated draw distance for most tracks
Bugfixes
-Fixed heavy CPU usage in offline mode (reported for Windows XP x64 computers)’
-Fixed “black texture bug”, seen on track reloads
-Various championship fixes
-Various spectator mode fixes
-Multiplayer stability fixes
-Fixed bug with locking force feedback when exiting to garage
-Fixed spectator shown up as server in chat
-Fixed rain effects in 100% rain (multiplayer)
-Fixed opponent generator to not select duplicate cars
-Fixed non restarting SEAT Toledo engine
-Fixed vertical seat postion not being saved correctly
-Fixed fuel tank capacity for STCC Alfa Romeo 156 and BMW320si 6 speed sequential

I hope Simbin do release an offline patch soon.
I’d especially appreciate the multiple Championships patch.
Looks like a good few improvements there.

This update was available right before the moment we had a full server field on simracing.nl.
This was hell, everybody lost their settings.
Dedicated server unavailable, version error.
So the solution for storing the files in the my documents/simbin folder was found quickly.
A backup server was up and running some time later.
This major file stoarage change could have been anounced by steam.
That why steam has got such a nice message system, use it..before not after, dummies…
Now suddenly the server browser is acting funny.
Not showing any servers for some while.
Sometimes no servers to be found at all.
Refresh works not all the time, or still can find anything.
This was confirmed by multiple players.
Nice the FOV can be adjusted in a wider range.
Like the other gMotor titles, great for my triple screen.
This was quite a hectic evening…
Thanks to this patch..

I have found many errors and bad things in this update. Forcing a major filestructure change without warning/alerting the user is irresponsible and a real bad move on SimBin. I feel sorry for those with co-lo servers and positive security restrictions to be forced to change file structures, many will not be able to perform this…
IT IS A VERY POOR PATCH THAT WAS FORCED ON THE USERS

the point of changing where the skins go was?

Was to allow Vista users to access the folder without having administrator rights, as I’ve understood the changelog.
About what morning_wood said with co-lo servers, don’t feel sorry, because we did not experience any problem. The files that were moved are only “client-sided”. Nothing to do on the server, it just runs.
Customskins are not on the server, but only in clients install folders.
I’m sorry for what happened to Rich, tho. RSC being down, i guess they would have warned us if it wasn’t.
Great patch, particularly about the FOV ! I haven’t tried yet, i hope the UI (HUD and menus) stay on the central screen, now !

wondering if anyone is noticing physics changes…
my front wheels appear to be “washing out” much sooner with shallow input angles

HUD and Menus were ignored, they do not stay on the center screen. Also, moving the userdata files was total BS, Simbin, you really disappointed me here. I’ve been supporting you with all games and all formats, even pre ordered Race Pro…. but this patch is BS and changing for Vista users is BS.
Think before you React, now we all have to work to adjust the chenges. How about a waring for folks that think all changes were not needed. Allow the user to decide WTF you change. After all, I purchased the game from you and it is my Computer.
This patch was poorly tested, rushed to release and does not address a few additonal isses like the C5R problem, or the center screen issues for TH2G users.

So much displeasure here about some unimportant folder changes.
It’s a good move from simbin to solve the problem with non-administrator rights for vista and upcoming windows-versions.
I guess, some changes what the patch has done will effect more future things of the simulation than what we expect now.

I do not see any available online timeattacks since the update.
Online play works fine, ports are forwarded properly.
Anybody have any idea?
