Many GT followers were very surprised to see NASCAR Sprint Cup cars in the Gran Turismo 5 trailer shown at the E3 expo as the world’s leading stock car series is a somewhat odd choice for the GT series which is aimed primarily at a European and Japanese audience.
Creator Kazunori Yamauchi elaborates on the decision in the following video interview, explaining how PD decided to include the series after visiting a NASCAR race at Texas Motor Speedway.
Interestingly, Kaz comments that not all Sprint Cup cars will be included right away, suggesting that there will be downloadable content for Gran Turismo 5.

Of course there will be downloadable content. The entire software industry is now based on selling you half a game. (I’m looking at you, “Burnout Paradise”.)

Gran Turismo series aimed primarily at what market? Reality check. Gran Turismo 3 sold 9.5 million copies approximately, out of which 7+ million in the US.

Really? Are you sure?
They only sold 2.5 million copies in Japan and Europe combined? Somewhat hard to believe

“As of April 30 2008, the game has shipped 1.89 million copies in Japan, 7.14 million in North America, 5.85 million in Europe, and 10,000 in Southeast Asia for a total of 14.89 million copies.[1][2] It is a part of the PlayStation 2’s Greatest Hits.”

“By April 30, 2008, Gran Turismo 4 had shipped 1.24 million copies in Japan, 2.9 million in North America, 5.77 million in Europe, and 150,000 in Asia for a total of 10.06 million copies.[2] As of June 2008, Gran Turismo 4 has shipped 1.25 million copies in Japan, 2.93 million in North America, 5.85 million in Europe, 70,000 in Southeast Asia, and 80,000 in Korea.[1]”

Kaz sure has managed to displace Greenawalt as the most annoying man in console sim development. He has no intention of releasing GT5 in 2009. All this crap is just unsightly grand standing to try to steal attention away from games that will be released this year.
No more movies, no more shi* talking, and no more grand standing. Just give us a playable floor demo.
