Polyphony Digital has released three new screenshots of their upcoming Gran Turismo 5 title for the Playstation 3, giving us a first glimpse of the title’s night racing feature.
The shots show a pack of Mercedes SLS AMGs racing on a street track, the images are available in full 8 megapixel resolution so you can check out all the small details.
Gran Turismo 5 will be bringing 1000 cars and over 60 tracks to the Playstation 3, including new features such as damage, weather and day/night effects. There’s no date for either the release of the Japanese or the International versions yet.

I think this a significant milestone in night-time rendering and a benchmark for future sims, as expected from PD. The last time somebody made a graphics evolution this major was in GTA4.

Does consoles have anti aliasing now?

They always had, just not that much. They both (X360 and PS3) can have up to 4x MSAA.It’s just that most devvers just use a blur filter on PS3.

This same night track existed already in GT1 and it is also only one wich GT5 will have (excluding Le Mans, IF they still have it) and this track wont be possible to drive in sun light.
EDIT: And damage will be only on race cars and weather effects wont be included. Both are CONFIRMED facts.
Nothing to do with actual post, but also cockpits wont be made for all concept cars.

what console? consoles are all different from each other and use very different technology. here is something very interesting regarding the console PS3 on AA…
As some of you may recall, Electronic Arts’ The Saboteur utilized the PS3’s Cell Processor for its anti-aliasing. The interesting thing about this technique is that it allows for a console to possibly create the effect of up to 16xAA, which is generally unheard of on consoles.

Wow, so they do AA in the CPU rather then the GPU where it belongs? That sounds incredibly impractical. It sure would be nice if PC games could push current hardware to the max rather then compromising for those with outdated hardware.

And I hope to see the same physics model as a PC sim in GT 10.

I would buy a PS3 for that, mr Kelly.

A) The PS3 can’t do AA the ‘normal’ way. It uses it’s own, some say inferior, method. Just to summarise that long post and link ;)
B) I was under the impression the final game would be like Prologue, these are naturally, complete Bullshots. Huge res, huge filtering, huge aa….just no.
Nice as wallpapers tho…xD

@felipe:
What? How can these be in-game when their resolution is 3840×2160? Maybe they’re machine-processed screen captures while playing, but they are certainly not what you see when playing the game. I bet the console jaggies will still be there, but I really hope they clean it up a LOT over what GT5P looked like. I’ll be buying GT5 either way, though.

They as always suseeded in showing nothing while releasing pictures and videos. All the pictures are heavily blurred to hide any details. All the videos are cell phone captured beeing low-res and over-contrasted and also hardly demonstrate anything. Take any game, blur it so strong and you get the same pictures. I am not going to buy anything till I’ll see the actual in-cockpit gameplay captured from a cable.

Hey hoboracer,
do yourself a favour and ignore him like most of us do. Great games come with stupid fanboys- that’s just the way it is.

Yes, because I said so. And no, you can’t hurt my feelings, I’m bulletproof. I’m not in iRacing either, but I am a clown so that should make you happy.
I know he’s an idiot. I just didn’t have anything more important to do at the time. Like right now.

How come anyone who disagrees with you is instantly an iRacer? Just curious…you seem hung up on it like iracing is out to “get” you….Heck, 99% of the time you bring up iRacing in non-iRacing topics….
but oh well, keep giving iracing free publicity felipe!
