I know it looks like its a sprite, and how bad are the shadows? Did you even notice the 2nd mulsane chicane on the first video the graphical glitch occur, and when heading down into indianapolis the shadows down the straight would flicker at times, and they say it was delayed so they could polish the product!! damn i need to polish my freaking ears they are bleeding from the GOD AWEFULL tyre squeel

And can i point out on the pesceralo, that the exhaust isnt 3d its just painted on, another polished sprite i see!!!

It’s realy sad that they didn’t make nice realistic sounds for such cars (((((
It more like that there is only 3 type of sounds – Muscles(Viper, Ford GT, SLR), LeMans + GT500 cars  and all oooooothers (even all V10, V12 high rev supercars). And even SLS have this annoying “all others” sound.

look at 26 seconds the shadow of of the steering wheel is skinny and squared! Yep great shadows, if you ever tried iracing you would see the shadows are round, and at night on the ovals cars produce multiple shadows from all the light focus, and the sound the sound is more real then any other race sim out there and better then that of your herralded game.

For the last months everytime I look up this page it shows new advertisement videos for GT5. I don’t see a way to avoid this, since there is no “everything BUT console” option (I would like that, just would bookmark that and be happy). In principle that’s what Jezza is suggesting: make two seperate blogs, one for console and one for PC-titles. Seriously, this page shows that PC-simracers and console-kids can’t get along. Just bring the water hose and end this before somebody starts crying, and it would make us all happy right?

Driver animations? like the ones on gt5 please! Watch that lamborghini going down the mulsanne would you, its a 6 speed and the hand goes to prepare for a shift to 7th. No game does driver animations good, and if they cant be done good dont do them at all.
Iracing doesnt look bland it looks realistic, as the colours are colour matched to what is there in real life, not over saturated like GT5. You only fall asleep at iracing because you cant afford it, and even if you could youd be pathetically slow.
As for not exciting fields of 30+ cars all very competitive and lots of passing that is exciting. GT5 and its dodgem cars is for 5 year olds

Actually, Kaz wanted to crash every car in the game and record the sound. However, due to PC-pirates there was only time and money to crash different Skyline models against each other. Hence you will only get Premium collision sounds if you smash to Nissans together.

and lans, just to inform you there are spectators in iracing, there is also a spectator feed so people can watch the races from there computer.
In case you dont know, not many people go to see practice sessions or test session, as the weekend progresses more people attend the race, by the time its race day the stands are packed.

so i guess its no different to the mclaren f1 team helping forza with physics and tyre modeling, but then again they even had steffan sarrazin go on about how real road atlanta is and it wasnt. More profesional drivers use iracing over any other game, for the simple reason its the most realistic.
On top of that the AI is not great, great ai is what you deal with in the GTR series, and i can attest to forza having better AI then GT5, once again your dealing with a driver who is being payed to market the game, no different to anthony davidson and f1 2010

Ferrari are all manufacturers who have warmed to gt5 and will gladly use gt5 to showcase their products and even use for simulation racing!

Jezza know u just talking kak the Ai in forza is overly agressive and just bumps you off the road, the ai cars can push you around but you cant push back as hard, the grass in forza is like a sandtrap how realistic is that? your speed gets automatically limited plus you basically have 100% grip even if you go off the track as the game makes it impossible for you to spin your car thanks to the permanent assist driving aids

Form the first vid it is obvious that there is rubber banding AI. When the player crash all the AI are waiting for him.

Some player may like or not rubber banding AI, but is really clear from the vid that there is some in GT5.

The ai in forza bumps you off the road, only if your super slow, the ai actually makes passes, and defends, and even makes mistakes under pressure. and you can push the ai cars, and spin them clearly you havent played forza enough, yet suprisinly when i played gt5 today i was able to use as i had been able to in previous gts use the ai as a brake and to bump around the turn, and the ai holds position even though i hit it at a 50km speed difference. the grass in forza is to stop cheating, wich clearly you must be upset that you couldnt do. and no you dont have 100% grip off track, an easy test to this is drag race a mate in the same stock car, and try turning at the same speeds on and off track, clearly lans you dont know what you are on about.
And im not a forza fan, infact im sick of that series, but i can easily claim it to be better the GT5, the physics are well advanced over gt5s. And if you have a steering wheel there is no steer assist, but then again thats the same for GT5 controller has a level of steer assist, wheel does not.

Iracing is always updating faster then updates arrive for consoles. So once again lans you obviously dont know what you are on about. I actually cannot say that I generally dislike rubberband AI, it depends on the strength of the effect. Maybe there is an option to turn it off or to configure the AI behaviour (like GTR2 was).

I had the chance to try GT5 (demo build) some month ago (Mecedes Benz Museum Stuttgart) and the AI was horrible. According to the video, PD completely changed the AI engine.

Lan, take note, In 2 years IRACING has done more then what GT has done through out its entire series, IRACING has head tracking, Better sound, REALISTIC physics, 3D if you have a proper Graphics card and moniter. Better tracks and detail, and Graphics as a whole package IRACING wins hands down that is including track and off track and shadows and lighting. And Iracing has the better replays, hell i doubt youd have room to store you 40+ competition 2 hour race at talledega on your ps3. With multiple view wich can be modified by the user. And dont compare the track environments, Iracing is 2nd to none in that department, every bump  on and off track every building every tyre wall every infield and outfield.

MOVING TARGET. I did not try the demo build but having played the final build, i cant say the physics are anything special for console, cars still feel front end heavy but are easy to slide, and you can bump the ai like no tomorrow without upsetting the ais ballance.

A first ( in-game) video that looks really great. Although the lighting a bit overdone in the beginning  for a sunset and it went too quick to the dusk.  But nevertheless everything looks very nice, color saturation, car reflections, overall contrast, shadow darkness are just spot on.  Nothing close to all those awful cell captured countless videos. I am really surprised.

There is tyre wear and fuel use, fuel usage is based on the type of car (diesel, petrol, V12 vs 4 cylinder etc.) plus you actual driving style.

As always most of these videos are also from arcade mode, the online section is still not activated, that’s were custom races and such will be available.

Yes, split it into ViratualR with the sim-news like it used to be and VirtualIdon’tcare with all the console-commercials. Will certainly take care of any fanboy-wars as well (except sim vs. sim, but at least they are not comapring apples and oranges).

Not really the tyre squeal is much less pronounced and is far less grating, it is a big improvement over GT4

But claiming that GT5 has better physics than iRacing is insanely wrong, not even PD would ever claim that. Gran Turismo is no simulation, it never was and it never will be. That’s not the appeal of the game, it’s marketed in a different way.

iRacing on the other hand is probably the most hardcore simulation regular people have access to. You´re comparing apples with oranges and it’s ridiculous.

i wasnt stating false facts lans you have been, stating many different drivers wich are only used for marketing, you also state it has better track design wich it does not, that its boring, you not only attacked iracing but other pc sims, wich you gave no valid point other then graphics, and trust me GT5s graphics are VERY inconsistent, as per the pesceralo photo, and all the shadow and clipping issues, the track detail on GT5 has nothing on tracks i have seen for Rfactor and Iracing.

Why is this such a big deal to understand Lans. You’ve come here, to what is _still_ a very PC simulation oriented website, and posted some completely false and outrageous claims about a console game. I’d like to think a good number of people on this site are open minded about this branching out, I for one am.

Whatever is good or bad about this game, it will sell massive. Also PS3 sales, even wheel sales etc will get a positive kick. And that’s a good thing since it introduces a lot of new people to racing.

No lans its a pre animation, As i pointed out earlier, the Lamborghini has a 6 speed gearbox, yet at the end of the mulsanne, the animation is preparing to shift into 7th, 7 into 6 doesnt happen, on top of that it looks rediculous taking the hand off the steering wheel to shift a paddle shift. I understand if you have fixed paddles and you need to upshift while turning hard left, but on a straight no, it doesnt make sense at all, and is terrible to see.

I agree, this is a very good thing. I havent had much interest in console racing since Gran Turismo 3, because in MY opinion (please dont kill me) there are way better options on the pc, but I often see people introducing themselves in iRacing and Gmotor titles saying they come from Forza and GT looking for more of a challenge.

The clips obviously show some weird shadows in them. Jezza, Kaemmer and Yamauchi take 2 different approaches to sim-racing. Kaemmer makes you pay even for breathing, Yamauchi makes you hyperventilate with the sheer amount of countent out of the box. How much do you pay iracing MONTHLY for 20 cars and 20 tracks?

i payed for 2 year subscription, and at $7 a month, it was pretty damn good deal, to get DEDICATED SERVERS and top quality iracing staff service and constant updates to the sim. great deal imo and believe it or not i was actually against subscription based programs up until the start of september when i signed up to iracing.

Why iRacing sucks!
There is no such thing as a perfect game please stop trolling gt5 because your games have tons of flaws as well

1. Horrible crash physics. (search for iracing crashes on youtube and you’ll see for yourself)

2. Bad transmission model. No variable position clutch. That means clutch is either engaged or not. GTR2 had that almost seven years ago now. The transmission is cheated by most players using a macro because the transmission driving aid is way too slow. If you don’t use a macro to cheat the transmission you’re at a disadvantage and will get beat on the straights everytime.

3. Terrible tire model. Netkar pro has a awesome tire model and now puts most sims to shame in that department. You can’t flat spot your tires in iracing, or pick up dirt and debris when going off track as you can in Netkar pro. If you watch the fast guys on oval racing they are almost always drifting the car into the corners.

4. No interactive cockpit.

5. No weather options or night racing. Weather and tempuratures are always the same. You don’t even get a track tempurature.

6. No brake tempuratures. You can gas and brake at the same time all day long in iracing without causing any problems to your brake.

7. Adding fuel option is terrible. You can’t add fuel in smaller increments.

8. A violent spin in iracing does not stall your car.

9. Single groove racing for ovals. The low line is always the fast line. Oval racing sucks even worse than road in iracing.

10. Way too darn expensive. Iracing is always wanting you to feed them money. Tracks are 15 bucks per. Cars are 12 bucks per. Membership is 100 dollars a year. You have to buy cars just to move up in license. So if your intention to join iracing was to drive one car you might have to buy two or three cars just to eventually drive the one you wanted to when you first joined.

11. If you want to do multi class racing you have to buy the cars you race against as well. Again at 12 bucks per. Total scam.

12. Some series have very little participation and when they say race against people of your own skill level that is a total lie.

13. iracing is easily hacked. iracing does not use anti cheat software and has been getting hacked the entire time. Look it up on youtube as well.

14. The graphics are old. It’s the same graphics engine as the old papyrus games with some new shadows and anti aliasing. The GTR games and Race 07 look much better. Plus those games have animated flagmen and spectators. The GTR games also have cool stuff like glowing brake discs and unspent fuel flaming from the exhaust.

15. The sound sucks in iracing. Engine sounds don’t even sound like an engine. You can’t adjust the sounds either. Like if you wanted to raise the sound of tyre skid you can’t.

16. No animated drivers.

8. A violent spin doesnt stall cars low revs stall cars, and yes you can stall your car in iracing, unless ofcourse you are using auto clutch.
9. Low line isnt the fast line, you need to set your car up for the lines, i have raced past many on the outside it requires knowledge how to tune, skill, and if you cant do it on your own you can do it with team work. Once again lans your failing…
10. less then $100 a year, and buy in bulk and save, infact if you dont want the car or track you dont have to buy it. And you can also buy what you want on special, yes they even have sales, and remember you will have to pay for your GT5 DLC so whats your point, you called pc player cheap hackers earlier yet now you complain that we pay for quality… wow lans cant you pick a side and stick to it?
11. If want multiclass then you know the deal, not a scam, why would you go multiclass if your not willing to drive the other car also? There is no point to it. So your arguement is once again invalid.
12. All series have good participation, just need to know when to be on. And sometimes racing against people of higher skill is a good thing, its great to tuck in behind the faster drivers and learn a thing or two and find some extra pace.
13. I racing isnt easily hacked, its serverbased, so you have failed there, a macro is not a hack, its a modification to make better ease of use of the black box options, a FFB mod is not a hack, it just gives crazy levels of FFB. People can make mods to it, any attempt at a hack or using program other then macro to change settings gets you banned, the iracing servers monitor your pc while hooked up to the program. BTW on youtube the so called plate hack is just a good slip stream, the grip hack is just the FFB mod. yeah look it up on youtube hey! well done lans.

14. Once again you are wrong, the Graphics have nothing to do with any old papyrus program, The base of the physics was designed off NR2003 the graphics itself was completely new, and on top of that the team at iracing can constantly improve and overhaul the graphics, wich as has been stated many times now, look alot more true to life then the over saturated work GT5 gives.

15. The sounds in iracing are phenomenal, Clearly you havent heard any of the cars in real life before. And the engines do sound like engines, the nascars in particular with the coughing and farting and tinging from fuel vapour detonating in the exhaust is incredible. 16. We have been over this one lans no game has ever done an animated driver well! NONE! ZIP! Ok, we get it already. Gt5 is not as realistic as pc sims like iracing, rfactor, gtr etc. But for some people, gt5 is the closest thing to a simulator. Oh and I know a game which has, graphics which are really realistic( im serious), the physics is unreal( very close to reality…), there is weather variation, realistic crashes, fluent animations, authentic sounds and a interactable cockpit. The price tag can be a bit hefty but affordable. Its called that thing in your garage that as four wheels, a steering wheel and a body which looks like a car……

Yer you make no valid point, if the kart doesnt spin when driven like that, then its clear the handling on the game is out of whack. if the tires actually controlled the kart, then going in reverse and steering at those speeds would have resulted in constant spins and crashes. So it appears as though the steering is set by a central pivot point on the car and weight distribution and tire modeling physics dont exist on the kart, then again every video i have seen of a kart in the game is unrealistic.

all these games have their strenghths and i own many of them(not iracing because of cost) i have also preordered GT5
but they all fail, simple as that none of them are that realistic and for the amount some people spend on their sim racing rigs i could buy a spare race car which is better in every way

Too true, Gran turismo 1/2 i guess started me off. The only true 100% arcade racing games I’ve played to enjoy is Burnout/TDU to take a break from the seriousness of racing in recent times, all the others I can’t stomach any more, GT helped me find the forza series 1/2/3 and those helped me find to find the rFactor’s (in which some mods struggle to match forza’s physics) GTR’s, LFS etc. soon I will move on to iRacing and give that a spin.

Consoles are a good stepping stone, and for sure, in the future some of the fastest guys/gals in the PC sim racing world will have come from console racing.

Let us not forget consoles also helped to spawn the greatest rally racing SIM….. EVER….. Richard Burns rally. That game surely was a console port, correct me if i’m wrong

After running a time attack competition at my store for GT5 with professional physics and no assists I came to the conclusion that the vast majority of people don’t give two shits about sim vs game. Thefastest time in the challenge was 2.29.XXX. 17 seconds off my best time. People like cars and video games. The majority of virtualr.net are annoying elitist twats with nothing better to do than hate on any game they don’t have. Get a life morons!

I watched the last two of the videos because those cars interest me a lot.  I like the JGTC/SuperGT cars a lot and those look really good.  Of course, I love the prototypes and those look really good too.  Unfortunately, they span a pretty wide range of time.  It would be nice if they split them into two groups of 1994 and later and 1993 and earlier but, oh well.

Two things struck me when watching those videos – the first is that it seemed to be always focused on one car.  Does the game have the capability of switching focus cars during the replay ?  Also – can you let the AI drive your car like in GTR2, RF, and others ?

The other thing is in the prototypes video the Courage has shadows from its fenders on the center section of the body.  That’s nice and all but the shadows looked awful.  They had very coursely jagged edges on them.  I see the same effect in rfactor some times but the edges are never so coursely jagged there.  Are there any settings to improve this in the game ?  Do the shadows look like this on all of the cars ?  So far, I have only seen them on the Courage (because of the previous “issue”) so I am curious about this.

I’m not trying to rag on this game.  The fact is, I am likely to get it.  I am just curious about these points.  Does anyone have answers ?

The shadows in the game are terrible, just look at the screen feed on the 1st video, look at the sun visor, also watch the steering wheel shadow, the shadows also clip and randomly vanish at times in the game also.

Seriously, playing on a 50″ 1080P Panasonic and this game looks great, bout all it has going for it though. It is a terrible game. Decent simulator but in the end, it is just a car collecting title.

Honestly GT5 does not look like what i had expected.

Then if you played the game and used the exact same cars on the same track, you would see that is the ingame graphics, no need to slag out any tv because at 1080p on a top led it will all look near identical.

actually im not calling the fans, i was calling lans. and FYI i have been attending this site since before the inception of console games came here. back then it was a peacfull place, unfortunatly the addition of console content has brought out the GT5 and FORZA fanboys, it tends to be that now if you pick out a fault in the game you then have to deal with angry hoards.

I have GT5 since two days and I can say…it met all my hopes.

In another forum, I posted many bugs and fault the game has…..but do you know what happened? No one cared because the game is already fun with it´s incompleteness.

You post every single standard car as a picture in hope, that nobody will buy the game. But do you know what? They already did and they hav fun, even with standard cars.

So give up, stop crying and play PC-simracing

I will protect my Polyphony Digital? Why? I protect nobody, because PD did not make a perfect game. But in compare to most others, I knew, what I will get, because I always keep realistic.

And I also play NeedForSpeed, GT Legends, rFactor and different other stuff. So fanboy is defenitely the wrong explaination.

And for everybody, who uses normal language, you should explain “lans”

As i stated in my first reply to you, “you also have not actually read all the posts” i suggest you read them all first before comming on here and making assumptions about me. And you will even understand Lans. Lans being the reason for all the posts in here, and my utter joy at causing mischief towards him. Unfortunatly reading them all will not give you the full picture as many lans comments were either removed by him or a moderator.
But addmittedly my posts in here are of late are only towards lans. Because lans is special to me, and the majority of people who took the time to read all the posts.

And note i would be entirely happy for console games to be posted on this site, if it werent for the console fanboys it brings, because unfortunatly as i have stated you cant make a very minor negative comment about a console game without getting your head ripped off by some of the fanboys.
While you find when you make a negative comment about say rfactor vs gtr vs iracing, the other people who use the sims generaly can see you point of view even if they dont like what they are hearing and just agree to disagree.

What I have up on screen looks far superiour to what your showing in those shotes though, I have no jaggies and your shots show the jaggies (mostly from compression i think) 

Also all your shots show standard car’s, lets be honest here we are paying for 200 premium models – GT4 had 150 total, the 800 others are nice to have but not really a part of what GT5 showcases. 

I dunno my game looks better then those images for sure, as far as playability is concerend. Different story entirely.

I don’t like ign reviews much. There reviews are pretty poorly structured at times and you can sense there love for xbox( professional fanboy syndrome). 

No alot of people brought the game so they can drive the cars the love, not the so 200 premium polyphony love.
I dont know why anyone could be pleased with a half assed aproach that took 5+ years. Even porting the tracks. And no the jaggies are not from compression they are there in the game! Use the same car same track same view. screen capture INGAME and you will see it quite easy.

Before consoles popped up yes, you could make a negative comment about Rfactor and be fine. And really if you havent read all the posts then no you dont even see the full picture. Hell i even gave the game some decent feedback. But noo you wouldnt know cause you havent read it all.

So, there are two guys which know me better than I do. I played PC-games more often than console games and my reaction to Jezza is the same way he does to Lans. I am not a console-only-guy, but a person who is pissed by seeing some crying babies in threads, which only sence is to battle with other guys.

And if you think, he never insult me…then you should trust me, he does often enough.
