Gran Turismo 5 – New Video Interview

Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi was recently interviewed by the official Playstation Blog, answering questions about the upcoming Gran Turismo titles for Playstation Portable and the Playstation 3.

Yamauchi makes some very promising comments, stating that the impressive Gran Turismo 5 E3 trailer showed only a very small portion of GT5 and that he expects the title to set a new industry standard.

Of course, the most important question still remains unanswered as nobody knows when Gran Turismo 5 will be available.

Industry standard for what? I don’t quite understand that concept, because while GT5 may rock, it still doesn’t compare to a real racing simulator like the most prestigious rF mods, iRacing, The GTR Series ect. ect..

Basically it’s very pretty. Kind of like that chick you banged in high school. She was drop dead gorgeous, but when it came to a real relationship, there just wasn’t any I.Q. there for you to connect with.

I’m frustrated just thinking about it.

xilix you may not like the game, but you shouldnt be prejudiced to the point of denying the impact that GT had on racing games industry and the fact that indeed it set a standard for quality racing games. We just need to compare the first GT with anything on the market back then, PC included, to understand how the game inovated.

CONSOLE racing games. The GT series surely had an impact in bringing racing sims to a larger audience but it did that by diluting the PC sim formula. So it arguably brought more fans into the genre by being a “My first racing game.” Unfortunately it can also be argued that most of those fans either stayed with the GT series or moved onto the Forza series so the impact was minimal.

Now in the console world it’s different. GT had a large impact on racing games there. I know the creators of the Forza series and F355 Challenge were both GT 1 fans.
