Gran Turismo 5 – New Nürburgring Previews

Polyphony has released new previews of their upcoming Gran Turismo 5 driving title for the Playstation 3, revealing the Nürburgring Grand Prix & Nürburgring 24 Hour track layouts.

Gran Turismo is one of the main sponsors of this weekend’s Nürburgring 24 Hour race and Gran Turismo 5 buyers will be able to relive the action of the prestigous events as the title will contain the Nordschleife, the Nürburgring Grand Prix track as well as the 24 Hour race layout that combines both the old and the new Nürburgring.

Below are several new previews, showing the Grand Prix track and the Nordschleife with lots of 24 Hour race details such as masses of campers trackside. If you´re attending the 24h race this weekend, make sure to check out the new Gran Turismo 5 demo that will be playable on site.

Gran Turismo 5 will be bringing 1000 cars and over 60 tracks to the Playstation 3, including new features such as damage, weather and day/night effects. There’s no date for either the release of the Japanese or the International versions yet. GT5 will be one of the first six Playstation 3 games to be available in 3D.

Great Track (o.c.) great lightning, great track objects, great textures = GFX Wooooow

    But I think bad Physics?

Just the track most GT fans been waiting for- the full 24hr of Nurburgring course. The physics isn’t bad- in fact, it’s quite good if the last GT5 demo (not Prologue) is the indication of where GT5 is heading. Of course, this is my opinion. The FFB has the springy feel that you get from iRacing although at the moment the tire modeling isn’t quite there yet- in the demo, tire temperature and wear hasn’t been implemented which it will be in the full GT5.

Compare to the other console sim, Forza 3, the physics is less forgiving and you get a better sense of weight, weight shifting, suspension and front tire-tracking. Personally, I prefer it over the latest SHIFT mod- the difference between production car and the race-tuned car in the demo is as good as anything I’ve played in the last 10 years. The FFB in GT will always gravitate towards minimal effects simply because there are so many cars that it has to simulate and in order maximize the feel between each cars, the emphasis is always on mass, suspension and weight transfer. Meaning you won’t get the effect from something like GTR2 or Evo.

Just like the FFB, the physics mirror the intent of trying to get a realistic behaviour and feel from the car chassis more so than the tires. In racing sim, it’s usually the tires first because the weight and effect of the chassis has been minimized and the suspension stiffer than most production cars.

    Can’t wait for E3!

Oh and I have absolutely no concerns about the physics, anybody who expects iRacing level of realism and difficulty would be a genuine idiot. But I hope at least GT5 can make me believe it’s real through some iRacing grade FFB, half of which is communicated through good track modelling.

Sounds however… that’s a make or break topic for me. Only one I think I’m going to find out after release.
